If you have just run through the migration steps and then typed /getmigrationstate, wait for a while and type that in again. Even on a single DC it can sometimes take a while to output the correct data.

TBH, as soon as any device becomes EOL, I remove it from the school. Running EOL invalidates any insurance for starters.

Surely one of those risks is the fact that after 4 years of not being in support, the device might no longer work, no?

Yep that might help, but when I worked for the LA, we had over 250 primary schools and they all only had one DC. We had a few of those go belly up and it was very simple to just restore the entire DC VM from backup. Probably took about 30 minutes and they were back up and running. There are no worries about server replication issues after restoring as there are no other servers to replicate with:-) Obviously if you are a larger school then you will need more than one DC, but for me the above works very well.

Also, I always use new names and new IPs on my new servers and migrate stuff over to the new server. As I go I update any shares or map addresses.

We don't join hosts to domain. We only have one DC on a host. No point having more, you might as well just take good backups and restore if needed. In fact restoring a single DC is simpler than restoring one when there are more. If you do want more than one DC, stick it on the old server so its separate from the main DC. SIMS migration is doable, I have done a few over the years, but expect some pain. It never goes to plan.

@tomsam22 Did you ever workout the issue? I have a number of users reporting this, but I cant workout what is actually causing it.

One of the schools I look after recently decided to teach all KS1 pupils how to login using a username / password. They basically spent a few IT sessions just going over and over this with them. When I spoke to the year 1 teacher last week I was told how surprised they are at how well most of them were already logging in themselves. I have always been told by KS1 teachers that pupils will never remember their login details and it will disrupt lessons etc, but this school has changed my view.

I contacted Wonde and made a complaint. Rather than automatically charging schools if they don't downgrade, they should have offered an upgrade path instead. To me this is not a good management decision and has already lost them a possible customer for their new Google password sync system. Who knows what they might charge for next

In Google Workspace there are 2 different ways I can see to forward an email from one account to another, and both options seem to work. Until now, I have always used the last option below. So which of these is the correct way to forward emails. Gmail > Default routing or Gmail > Routing > Email forwarding using recipient address map

At one of my primary schools I found a teacher that used a Chromebook at home and really liked it. We then purchased a class set and gave them to her class. Within 3 months the class teacher next door requested Chromebooks for her class and off it rolled. Had 6 classrooms with 1-2-1 Chromebooks within 2 years what really helped was the slow roll out speed, and the fact we now had a teacher who could help other teachers.

Not that I am aware of. Are there any Workspace admin Chromebook settings that might be enabled, that can block downloads?

Very recently deployed some Chromebooks to a primary school. I have just had an email saying the pupils are not able to save the Scratch projects. Apparently nothing happens when they click save. I am not at the school until later in the week, but have just tested on my home personal Chromebook and I could save, so there must be something about the Chromebook school setup causing this. Nothing really jumps out at me when I do a Google search. A few posts about creating a scratch account, but I don;t have an account on my home Chromebook and I could save my project. Any ideas?

I think I get what its saying, not 100% sure. From a Workspace admin perspective, do I need to enable that tick box in 'Security > Authentication > Passwordless', for my users that access their Google Workspace apps using an iPhone as 2fa, to be able to continue accessing the schools Google apps, or do the users just need to switch to passkey on their iPhone, and regardless of the setting in Workspace, they will still be able to log in? Would you tick or leave it un-ticked?

Ohh thanks for pointing that out. So it looks like snapshot or buying another NAS are the only other options. Do you know if Snapshot Replication works to an external USB device? I know some NAS systems don't really like working with external USB drives.

I was thinking of putting ChromeOS Flex on some of our older laptops, but it seems you can install apps from their Android app store into them.

Not necessarily, A good few times in the past, the only times I new about DNS issues was when SIMS couldn't update a client, other than that we had no other issues reported and everything seemed fine. Normally this would be a few devices using the same IP. Obviously we had deeper DHCP / DNS issues to resolve, but its not always something you might notice.

Have you checked DNS, just in case you have duplicate IPs, or something odd there.

Perhaps this is the difference between secondary and primary. I look after different primary schools only. The teacher only stays in their one class, there is no messing with power adapters or HDMI adapters, they don't move around, except for PPA or planning, and they like to plan on their laptop, which they can choose to do at home.
