Are ESS trying to make it harder to migrate away from to SIMS?
TwistedHelixis replied to Ditto's topic in MIS Systems
All the schools in my entire county moved away from SIMS last year. That must have been a large chunk of school gone from SIMS. -
Hi, We have all the additional apps turned off for our Pupils OU. When I look in the additional services apps list, at the top level root OU, it lists some services as needing confirmation. I have just read that any apps not given consent will be disabled next year. So, I am a little confused as to why I need to give consent, when additional apps are only enabled on our Staff OUs Also, how does the system know who is a teacher and who is a pupil? I have some fuzzy memory of being asked to select the pupils OU for age reasons, but could be completely wrong. Any ideas what needs to be done? Do I just give consent?

This is for a primary school. We currently have the Gmail app disabled for all pupils. I have just been asked if it is possible to enable Gmail, but block all external sending / receiving. I believe they want to show the pupils how Email works as part of their curriculum. I thought there would be a load of articles / posts online, but for some reason I am coming up with very limited results, so thought I would ask on Edugeek. Is this possible?

We have the pupils blocked from the main settings page. This does not stop them adding Bluetooth devices but when they go to remove a Bluetooth device, they get 'settings blocked by admin. I have looked through the Workspace settings and cant see anything that might help. Anyway to allow them to remove Bluetooth devices? I suppose, as its so near the start of term, I could send a wipe command to those devices

Don't forget Chrome Flex doesn't support the Android app store. Most of my school go with the Dell 3100 chromebooks with touchscreen, 8gb ram and at least 3 year warranty.

I just took a copy of the server VM and put that somewhere safe, then shutdown the VM. When I install a new host, ill copy the VM over but leave it turned off unless its needed.

I deleted the user now, so this could be completly wrong.... GW > Apps > Drive > Migration Settings Tick > Allow editors to move files into shared drives. I know the info goes on about moving other people files, but seem to remember it also enabled the feature you are after.

I sure I got it working without needing to be a manager of the drive. Ill go check now.

Bitlocker save our day last year. We have it set to also need a pin number on boot. The business manager left the school laptop in the back of her car over night and it was gone in the morning. About 6 hours later it was found about a mile away in a hedge. I'm guessing whoever took it, turned it on and couldn't get it to boot so dumped it.

Connect to domain from another site
TwistedHelixis replied to mikkydoos's topic in Windows Server 2022
Can i jump in, now you have sorted it? @Davit2005 I need to rename a domain soon and this sounds like a smooth way of getting there. Would you mind letting me know what you did? -
No, definitely the original photos. All other settings seem to switch to the new shared drive settings except weather the user can download them, which seems to have copied over from the original location. I have done a few other tests, with other files and this does seem to be the case, at least for this domain. I look after a few other domains, so might see what happens with those, if I get time.

OK, so it turned out I had a few different issues, the main one being that moving the files internally within Google to my new photos folder in a Shared drive would't let the parents download the photos, but if I download the photos to my computer and then upload them into the same shared drive folder, the parents can now download the files. Any idea why its like this? Makes no sense to me as I thought files moved to a completely new shared drive would take on those shared drive settings, but apparently not.

I am trying to create a Shared 'My drive' folder or 'Shared Drive' folder with photos for the parents to download. The problem is we have our Drive and Shared Drive settings very locked down to prevent external sharing. If I create a 'My Drive' folder and use the 'Anyone with the link' option, set as 'viewer', parents can only view the photos, not download. There doesn't seem to be a link option with download as an option to pick. If I create a new Shared Drive, with a folder of photos inside, it has the following under link sharing 'Restricted, Only people with access can open with the link'. I cant pick 'Anyone with a link' as its not an option. I did try creating a new OU and then creating a new Shared drive in there, then applying external settings to that OU, but still no joy. Am I correct in thinking that its my user settings that would need to be changed in Workspace > Apps > Drive > Sharing outside of settings page? If so, should I create a new account and then apply external settings to this new account. I don't want to change the settings on my normal account. I also have the following 2 options that I think might work...... 1. Create a new user in Workspace, perhaps called parents. Share either the My Drive or Shared drive folder with this user, then email out the user login details to the parents with the folder link. 2. Create a new user in Workspace with external sharing enabled, then create the new shared drive using this account. Am I over complicating things? What would you do?

Small primary has just federated with another small primary school. I look after the Google Workspace school and someone else looks after the 365 primary school. One of our office staff went over to the 365 school and was given a 356 email. She then setup forwarding to her Gmail email, so any emails the other school would send her would also forward to her main Gmail email. Apparently this is not working and the 365 IT sent her the following.... Your message wasn't delivered because the recipients email provider rejected it We literally never have any issues with any emails getting received, I only know of one other rejected email in the last 2 years. Is there a log somewhere of rejected emails in Workspace? I have had a look but cant find anything. Any other advice to help workout whats causing the issue.
