We're just about at BSF, everyone TUPE's on 1st Feb 2010 to Northgate. At my School I'm Strategic ICT Manager, I manage the Network Manager, do the buying, control the Whole School ICT budget etc, as well as everything from hands on repairs, toners, passwords through to strategic planning and implementation etc. BUT I also sing in the choir, play in the Big Band, Brass Group and Orchestra, am the Musical Director for the shows, look after Theatre lights and sound and many other bits and bats. So the school decided NOT to TUPE me, I'll stay in their employment. It's YOUR OWN School in the majority of cases that decides who gets TUPE'd, and whilst they know I'll no longer have admin rights I'll still be a useful part of the IT team in negotiation with Northgate. It's not as bad as people think if you talk to your Head well in advance.

And you'll very rarely get HSPDA, and certainly almost never at 7mb. Even in city centres I rarely get HSPDA.

We're Voluntary Aided, so I'm employed by the Governors, not the LA. I also look after Theatre Sound/Lighting, bit of music etc so the school are keeping me. I will be involved as my other hat, Strategic Manager of ICT.

The word on the street was correct, it is a Balfour Beatty/Northgate win. I'm in an interesting situation, as I won't be TUPE'd but my colleagues will. I will watch with interest, and as an IT only school (not even facilities management, just IT) we'll see what happens. We're currently RM CC4 with Serco Facility as MIS and Talmos VLE. All 3 will change by next September possibly!

Yes, all drivers and BIOS update done. We've had this problem before 2 or 3 years ago, and none of us can remember how we fixed it!

Yes, USB keyboard works, as does the normal keyboard of a Hirens disk etc.

Works fine in the BIOS. It's a known issue with some vaio's apparently, but not been able to figure it out!

We have a Vaio VGN-FS415E laptop with a replacement Hard drive. With a clean install of XP everything works fine besides the keyboard, which doesn't work at all. We have no recovery CD, and obviously the recovery partition was on the knackerd HDD. Has anyone any ideas, or better still, a recovery CD? Sony want £37 for one!

Well I'm at St Wilfrid's and don't know who's won it. We find out next week. We are an IT only school, not a rebuild, by the way. Our building is only 6 years old!

We're CC3 here. Works very well, and we support primary schools with Server 2003 and CC3 is far better to manage. You can adapt it if you know what you're doing, whilst being able to let Modern Apps/Trainee's loose on it very early with the simplified management tools. We have Proxy (Smartcache 2) with them as well as the general stuff. We don't buy there machines any more, we have them built and they work like a dream. Kate, personally I'd suggest CC3 is ideal for someone part time like yourself, without the time a nd resources to invest in starting from scratch.
