We're in the middle of the process. Both servers are now cc4 commisioned, student data and other files are across. Just a massive dhcp and dns issue now. We run two domains in school, a vanilla for admin, and cc3 (previously) for the students. One admin server, and two rm servers. The admin is the forest root, which runs dhcp and dns. The technician tells us that the cc4 server1 has to be the forest root, so swapped dhcp and dns responsiblities over. Now we get massive network delay on the admin network, and rm machines won't get ip's...........

Ok, so we've got Smartboards in every classroom, each have a set of speakers, connected to an amp/wallplate with the following inputs: - VGA connector - PC audio (3.5mm jack) - Video input (red/white/yellow phono sockets) In most rooms, there is a 1.5 meter VGA and audio cable for teacher laptops to connect up. The smartboard usb lead just comes out of the board. Since installed, some students have noticed that during lunchtimes/breaktimes, they can connect their own devices to the pc audio lead and play it over the speakers. Without our knowledge, some teachers removed the cable at these times so they couldnt listen to their music. This then lead to the students taking cables from other rooms. Break would end, teachers would return to their rooms and find a missing cable, then ask us for replacements. We even found some students keeping the cable in their bags! As a deterrent, i went round and simply cable tied all the video/audio leads together, which 95% of the time works fine. However, we are still finding it a small issue. Scissors in school aren't particular hard to find! Does anyone have any thoughts on how we could resolve this? Another method of securing them perhaps? It's a bit of a pain for teachers really, trying to get a hold of us to replace them while trying to teach can be a struggle.

In our all girl secondary school. Internal components havent gone missing (yet, or that we've noticed). However they have a habit of removing the mouse/keyboard and connecting it to the front usb ports for some bizarre reason. I went round last summer and cable tied them all up at the back with the power lead, to the case. If anyone REALLY wanted to move them, they could cut the cable tie, but it hasn't happened yet. Works as a pretty good deterrent.

Ooh yea, also, the website tvcatchup on the ipod/phone/pad is really cool. Watch freeview on 3g or wifi.

Hello, We've got an iPad and a single iPod Touch in school now to pass around the departments and see who'd get use out of them, then we can make a decision as to how many we'll get (if any). One thing that we thought we'd be able to do, is duplicate what's on the ipad/touch on the projector. We got the proper apple lead (vga connector) but it only outputs content in safari, the ipod functions or photos (if in slideshow mode). When Steve Jobs does his demos, you can see a duplicate of what he's upto. How does he do this?! Does anyone know if this is some sort of app, or some other magic? We've got some digital visualisers in school which i've used to show how to use a pda to a class before, but it's not quite the same! Any thoughts/solutions?

We've got 1 iPad in, to pass around the departments and find out who'd get the best use out of it. Therefore we're on the hunt for a cross section of apps (free or paid for) for all departments. We've got: pUniverseHD which is an astronomy app, quite shiny to play with. Shakespeare which is literally all of shakespeares works in an app. Free 3d Brain which shows the parts of the brain in 3d! designed for the iphone/touch, blown up to ipad size it's a little pixelated, but does the job. We got the ipad - vga lead (a snip at £25!), however when you connect it to a monitor, it only outputs some apps, itunes photos/videos. We want it to duplicate the screen, but i'm going to start a thread about that if i can find one.

I have two monitors connected to the one card via a 'Y' cable, one DVI and one VGA. My laptop (Dell Latitude 4300, 13") intel core 2 duo @ 2.53Ghz - 4.4 Ram, 2gb - 5.3 Mobile Intel 4 Series (onboard graphics) - 3.8 same for gaming - 3.4 160GB SATA - 5.5 Both running 32-bit win7 professional.

Hi, Apologies if there's already a similar thread, i couldn't see it! In our Hall and Gym we've got projectors on trolleys that we wheel in and out as we need for assemblies and whatnot. However we need some new speakers for the laptops to connect to. We had some standard PC speakers sat on the bottom of the trolley in the past (as shown below), however they're a bit weak and dont have the volume we'd like. Also they keep falling off and are now damaged. We've looked about and cant really find anything that'll sit nicely on that bottom shelf. I did search this forum but couldn't find anything similar. We've got some Sony Handycams the ones with harddrives in them, around the school, DCR-SR32, DCR-SR52 etc. They record mpg's and it seems that you have to use the Sony software in order to download the footage. Once it's downloaded, you can view it using their software (Picture Motion Browser (Or PMB)) but Windows Media Player won't play them and Windows Movie Maker (WMM) won't import them. It's obviously a codec issue. If i download VLC Media Player i can view the clips outside PMB. It's often the case however that we want to edit the video, and PMB is poop. Anyone come up against this and (hopefully) have a solution? We're using Windows XP, WMM is up-to-date and the option to 'automatically download codecs' is ticked.

Hello, I'm Daniel, or more commonly known around school as Mr Beckett! I graduated from Uni just over a year ago and i've been working ever since in an all girls catholic school in Southampton as an IT Technician. We've got an RM domain for the students and a Server 2003 setup for the staff. We've recently entered the applemac world for media studies, so you'll probably find me in those forum pages looking lost and confused!

We've just ordered 7 PDA's, 5 for PE and two spares, (Ipaqs). Two have arrived, the rest wont be here for another month. We're going to install SIMS Mobile onto them, another local school already has and they said it can be a bit fiddly to get going, but once it's up it's good. I'll let you know how i get on, when i get round to it.....
