Recently we have installed 17 iMacs in our Music Suite. We have noticed that when student's login there is a peak of data going to the classroom, up to 75mb! We have Garageband,Sibelius and Logic Pro X installed. Could it be that the software is downloading updates? Anyone have any ideas ?

We use SB recorder and record the video playing via the Admin Impero console. It would be interesting seeing if there is another way of doing it!

Thank you for all the help, it turned out that there was a problem with the Licence. Avid fixed this and Sibelius now works , so a happy head of Music.

I hadn't thought about that, will try that tomorrow. We have been busy putting new iMacs in the suite today.

I will try this, we have a palo alto firewall and there is a possibility its blocking this.

We have installed Sibelius on our iMacs in our music suite. The licence server is installed on our mac mini which we use to run the mac's using os server. After setting up the Licence server to our mac minis's ip address the imacs just don't see the the licence server. From what I am reading online its a nightmare to setup. So we have decided to deactivate the licence server and activate Sibelius on each machine. Problem is we can't deactivate the licence server to use our multi seat licence! We keep getting the message Failed Deactivation: The activation server could not be reached Any ideas?

Jamfpro is part of the academies trust idea spread over various schools. I agree I'm sure the performance problem issue is just that macs don't work well on a Windows based network.
-
Thank you for the suggestions so far, hopefully a lot of the problems will be ironed out when we move to Jamfpro.

We are upgrading our iMacs in our music suite, they are all the latest specification. i5,256 ssd , 8gb ram all running hi-sierra 2018 models. At the moment we are using a mini mac using the mac OS server, the iMacs we have at the moment are using the golden triangle way of accessing our AD. We will be moving to Jamf pro next year, but at the moment we will have to use this setup. Problem we have is the moment we add the iMacs to the network , they slow down and we get the spinning beachball on running most programs. This obviously wont help the students as this is what we are experiencing with the older iMacs. My solution would be to create a generic music login for students and for them to save their work on a USB, the iMacs work perfectly when we set them up this way. But the Music teachers are demanding we run it through the network. Any ideas?

I think you have a point, it could well be that the version of the OS is the problem. I can make an image from one of our other new iMacs and see it this works. I really should have made an image from the new iMac before trying to re-image using the old image Doh!!

We are in the process of installing an image we created on new iMacs in our music suite. The iMacs are 2018 and all had 256 SSD, problem we are having is that we cant install our image we created for the older iMacs we have. I have tried to re-install Hi-sierra via Command+R but we get the dreaded 'The recovery server could not be contacted' Is it because of the SSD format AFPS? Any suggestions ?

Yes downloaded it last night after seeing how big it was !! Played the demo last week, looks as good as Forza 3.

Forza Horizons 4 out today, downloaded it last night on my PC. Roll on 4pm!!

Does anyone know how to block the Sky Sports Mobile Tv app on guest wireless on a Palo Alto firewall ? During testing we found that we could watch live sports, obviously it wont stop the students using their own data but we don't want our network swamped with streaming data!

I'm happy with my Geforce Gtx 1060, I really cant see the reason for spending £1k on a graphics card! It is the future of graphic cards but it's just a bit too early to jump on the Ray-tracing route.

As I've mentioned in another thread Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion and of course Metroid should appear next year. Although I have a PS4 Pro and PC, the switch is used the most in my family. My younger son who is 7 loves playing Zelda and Mario kart. As an old gamer who has bought every Nintendo machine since the SNES I'm hoping that the online service will have games from other consoles in the near future. Great pricing plan.

Adobe Design Premium CS5 - License no longer valid

Re-imaged a test machine and the license now works. We are re-imaging the computers in the summer so we will fix them then. -

Same problem here, we purchased the product 8 years ago. As we have 500 computers we can't afford to switch to Adobe Cloud! -
My cousin in Scotland knew him, she's gutted and said he was a really lovely guy.

I forgot to say it is Internet Explorer.

We are trying to stop students using F12 to access the DOM explorer, obviously they cant change a website but we get staff asking us to stop the students doing it during lessons. Any suggestions ?
