Google search links blocked on Palto Alto
Bagpuss66 replied to Bagpuss66's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We checked this and we can now get the search to work but by asking the students to go to search settings and turn on safesearch. Not ideal when you have over 500 computers! On our own machines once you turn the computer off and restart it reset's. Could it be a policy issue on the server ? Strange how it has only started recently considering Google changed over to SSL dycryption on june and we are having problems now ! -
Strange problem today, students can access google but when they click on a link to unblocked website i.e www.bbc.co.uk they get a blocked page with the message saying 'Your search results have been blocked because your search settings are not in accordance with company policy. In order to continue, please update your search settings so that Safe Search is set to the strictest setting.' We haven't touched the Palto Alto or our server settings, yesterday and it was all working fine then so is there any thing that we may be missing ? Is it a windows update that has effected the setting ?

Palto Alto Blocking Data downloads from website
Bagpuss66 replied to Bagpuss66's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
It could be our group policies stopping them downloading the files. The Palo Alto firewall is very powerful but It can be a juggling act getting everything working as you would wish! -
We have KS5 students using the website Gapminder: Unveiling the beauty of statistics for a fact based world view. they can access the site ,but when they try to download Excel data from the data link on the site its blocked. The Palo alto firewall has this site allowed in objects /URL filtering. Do we have to allow data downloads for this specific website ?

Links to the websites in general.

We use the Restricted Mode. It can cause no end of problems as Teachers usually create their lesson's at home. Once they bring them into a school they find that most the links are restricted by our school policies. It's a constant headache. Obviously they shouldn't base so much of their teaching on online sources.

All sorted now, it was a server problem in the end.

Sorry my mistake ! Long day ! Yes it's http://localhost/PHPMyadmin

We have a problem accessing PHPmyadmin , when we use http://localhost/admin we get the error '403 - Forbidden: Acess is denied' Very frustrating as it contains our school website. This was written in Joomla and we need access to edit the website. We can add and delete pages through the school website. But we need to get at the main meat of the website to re-write some coding. The main person that developed the website left with very little pointers apart from the login details for Phpmyadmin, which we obviously cant access!! Any help would be gratefully received.

Still struggling to get our heads around this ! Does anyone have an easy explanation on how to do this. Or has the latest version of the software have this already implemented? It is a pain as bob_uk2k has pointed out as a lot of are now using https. Luckily it seems only a few of the kids have realised that you can use google translate to get round our firewall. We used to use SWGFL and they handled all the website filtering. The Palo alto was purchased before I came to work at the school and I'm pretty much learning on how to use it as I go along!

We have recently found that the students are using Google translate to get round our URL filtering on our Palo Alto Firewall. The students must be still able to use translate google for its real use. The manual is as clear as mud on how to set up https filtering. Short of blocking the site itself we are a bit stuck on what to do . Anyone out there know how to add this type of filtering ?
