While this is a nice idea the graphics would look better and the interface if they were sharper. In essence the application is a search engine that queries several sources for information, its slow therefore making it faster would be an improvement, along with a few tweaks of the interface. A preference panel would be good to enable this, so that components could be moved around allowing customization of the interface and the selection of search engines or web services queried. Not really sold on it though it is very clever.

I have had similar results to S Rochford, searches take a long time then my popup blocker doesn't allow links to open, images on search results blurred. Echoing S Rochford why not just create a page of links in your VLE for pupils to search through I cannot see this being any more work than saving your searches in this package. This software IMHO would be throwing money away, I can't see any advantage, it is pretty and clever but there are other ways to give this information to pupils without spending. Software designed in this way I find a little annoying, as I know if you were to show it in schools it would sell, it would appeal to those who do not think beyond what they see before them ie; the flashy interface.

You could scan for open ports, and the applications using those ports using nmap. nmap -r "ipaddress" Will list all ports and class there status and give the application running on them nmap -p69 "ipaddress" Will scan for just that ports status

In the past I've created local policies on laptops (before imaging) to restrict desktop access when used on a peer networks. Hiding things works fairly well in primary schools it just makes access to them a little more difficult. For instance hide all the control panels, because local policies affect all users including admin you can only hide them, place a shortcut to control panel on the administrators desktop also place a shortcut for your local saved policy before enabling them. Be very careful not to lock yourself out, take an image of the laptop with policies disabled just in case. You can hide drives just the same as you may in AD so your system drive can be hidden from view. On your SLTs idea of having a wireless setup, not very good really as the TCO is far greater both in support and maintenance/setup. As above try and keep a wired desktop ICT suite then you will always have systems available, the charging requirements of laptops will mean they will not be available all the time, so you'll get less use from them.

If your workstations can see your 2003 DHCP server ie. it can receive their requests on the network for an address then the process will complete without going through the DHCP Proxy. Is that what you are asking Ric. In the past I've split the scope between servers and the only way of knowing which DHCP server has issued the address is by looking at which part of the scope it was from and knowing that that came from server A and not server B. Therefore if your DHCP server responds before your proxy the address comes from there albeit from the same scope, makes a proxy a bit redundant don't you think. You could use Wireshark to view whats going on when a lease is requested you will soon find out which machine is quickest to respond, one of my servers was much faster and its address pool would often expire before the second smaller pool was used.

Its two years part time to continue on to complete the BSc after finishing your foundation degree at Lancaster. I've just completed the foundation degree graduated on the 16th of July. Absolutely great course with what I can only describe as a very hard third year followed by a even harder final year, (very very hard). The best way to use two monitors under windows is to extend your display across the two displays. Under Desktop properties select the settings tab then select the second monitor in the main window and then check the box Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.
