  1. have you tried the serialzation patch, works fine for us here.
  2. i thought i'd be all romantic and book a meal for me and the missus at this nice italian, organised the baby sitter as this was the first time since having little girl we had been out for valentines day ( in three years). After hour and half we still haven't been seated so we left and got a takeaway and where back by half nine, she was not impressed.
  3. at the pervious school I worked at we installed cameras in nearly all the ICT suites, once we caught a few of them vandalising the PCs and word got around they were monitored didn't have as many problems or acts of vandalism. Staff didn’t have an issue with this as the ICT team were the only ones who had access to the camera's. I also seem to remember that we used the cameras to prove that a male student had sent a rude and offensive email to a female member of staff by using the camera to zoom in on his screen.
  4. yep beer in one hand and tongs in the other
  5. 2nd June in Lancs, i can see if the weather is good having a bbq! If you could get a similar range of speakers that were at last years conf.
  6. Sorry i mean with where the sophos updates are on the server, when putting in the proxy details i used an account but didn't put in the domain i.e domain\username just username
  7. I noticed the mistakes one was with the file path for the updates! I've not had problems getting the updates down its getting the PCs to update from EC, it doesn't use the emanager account anymore, i can update the PC manually using the emanager account?
  8. Done the right click and protect computers, but because the shared sophos folder has changed name you need to run a script to change where it looks for updates
  9. Its worked here fine, just having an issue getting the clients to update with the new version. Have you used the guide that was sent out?
  10. yes, no not really Martin said he'd put the powerpoint on the Westfield Centre site, a little info about the changes to ICT support with regards to BT and LCC forming a partnership but its only been agreed this week so it will be the new year before we know the full details. The chap from MIDAS gave an update and reason why its been dealyed and the new time frames again details for that can be found at vle.cleo.net.uk.
  11. Our head is interested in integrating together our website and moodle so that everything is just accessed via moodle. What if any problems have you had and the advantages of doing it this way.
  12. friday and saturday
  13. just had an email from admin forwarded to me from a parent about it.
  14. We updated two ICT suites with new PCs but in one suite didn't replace the monitors as they were still ok. We created a ICT suite for the business studies dept using refurbished PC from ICT direct and I believe that next year we will probably again do a mix of the two as school budgets and in particular the ICT budget gets squeezed and we are asked to do the same but with less money.
  15. i think its ok does what we need to do, and its simple for a none ICT person to update items etc. My mate works their and has spent some time trying to add new features in like the ones currently on our website Broughton Business & Enterprise College : to make the website more slick and professional compared to the one we had before from LGFL its miles better.
  16. it was talked about at the last school tech meeting School Technician Meetings | The Westfield Centre

    Dell Netbooks

Agree with Soulfish, we have to turn the netbooks so they stick out of the laptop trolley tray but it does fit and and you can close and lock the door. We bought the Lapcabby from Monarch but got a normal size trolley rather than one just made for the netbooks as the trolley from Dell wasn't availble Out of all the laptops we have in school for student use i'd say these are the best haven't had anywhere near as many issues or problems with keys pulled of etc, will defo be buying these next time around.
  21. Dep head who we have to every time go and help set up and run a DVD, i think after reading this i am going to raise it with my line manager as both me and the other techy have shown him other staff even students and he still asks i think its a degree of laziness.
  22. I'll try to get a report to you end of this week start of next.
  23. Give FruityCables a ring, details here i used them from a recommendation another edugeek memeber made when i needed 200 0.3m Cat6 patch cables which came booted, cant remember the price as it was last summer but i had to have them custom made rather than of the self. So i think you'll be lucky to get them for the same price as 0.5m
  24. we've got a meeting this afternoon with them, my colleague went to a meeting in the north west a few weeks go and was very impressed with both the product and their knowledge in general.
  25. We moved to a total VMware server solution last summer and paid a support company to come in and help set it all up for us, we were in the same boat in that their was a lot of pressure to get it right and make sure their was a big improvement from the old server set up that was a best flaky. I felt that bring in the consultant was both useful and questionable at the rate we paid for him. He did set up the majority of the VMware as well us giving us on site training but once we know what was involved we felt we could have done it our selves bar for the fact that we need to get it up and running ASAP and make sure that it all work at its best. Having had nearly a year at read up and testing different things and having various issue with it, I can say we are finally happy with the set up and its been running very sweetly since the start of this year but it has been a very steep learning curve and some time we have pulled our hair out in frustration when things have gone wrong, thank god that SMT have been so patience with us.
