We have currently got a wireless network that supports small numbers of wireless laptops in english, SEN and science but it wouldn't be good enough to support an extra 900 users. been looking at the ruckus system. i ask about servers and switches because we are going to update these the next financal year but knowing how much school demands change year to year i might as well build into this the extra users. so instead of getting 2 main dc servers i might have to get 4 servers, if you see my point.

Just a question on the laptop for student front, the new head here is very keen to see this system in place and I am starting to form a plan of action of how we could implement this. My question is if you are expecting X number of pupils to log on at an one time in your school have you had to either upgrade or purchase new equipment such as servers and switches to cope with all this extra demand on the network? Is their any one in the Preston/Lancashire area that has currently got a laptop for student scheme running in their school that would be willing for me to come and speak to you about how you have gone about this?

EDIT (20-05-10): We were just contacted by the company and they have stated that this type of sales practice is long gone and that it wont happen again. This message has been edited to reflect this since the post is over 1 year old and there have been policy changes subsiquently. ZeroHour Just had a phone call from the above company, and was wondering if any one had heard of them or used them before. I am a little annoyed though because after listening to him going on about this printer cleaning kit he trys to get me to order 6 kits at 40 quid each the bloody cheek.

[pics] Why women shouldn't drive cars....
ticker replied to tech_guy's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
A few years back we bought a nice new Vauxhall Astra, we had only had it a week and the girlfriend was visiting a friend, turning around in the road she only managed to reverse the car onto a tree stump in someone’s garden and total rip the back end of the car off. It was funny seeing the expression on the guys at the garage when we went to get it fixed. and she says about my driving!!!! -

In a little over three weeks I will be starting a new position at a school just north of Preston, having worked at a school in North Yorkshire for the past 4 years I have a couple of question. 1.Does anyone know what wave schools in Preston are for BSF? 2.What kind of ICT services does the LEA provide, I have heard about CLEO. 3.In my current position I have always found it useful to speak to or visit other schools and colleges in the area, would anyone be willing either through here or once I start in post to give me some contact details for a visit? Thanks

ok cheers guys i will try all of the above and see if it works.

Having recently installed Windows server R2 we decided to take advantage of the deployed printer feature in R2 to install our printers across the network. But it seems I have come up against a great big bloody wall that means I won’t be using this feature. On successful deploying the printers out to a test machine and then logging on as a student I find that when I open MS publisher and open an existing publication and then go to print it, it throws up and error with the printer about not able to see the printer. But it doesn't have this problem with any other bit of software i.e. word, excel and even photo printing. To see where the problem lays I installed the said printer as a standard TCP/IP printer and what do u know it works fine. The problem is I would like to get this working because it would be such a time saving feature but a lot of departments in school still use publisher and they can’t do with not being able to use publisher to print. Has anyone come across the problem had a quick Google search but nothing is coming up. The printer in question is a HP Photo smart 8750.
