we did this at my pervious school, it a was monthly ICT bulletin that went out with the normal staff briefing and it went down really well with staff who could see what we were doing, developments, info and that sort of thing. I would like to start it here but with only two of us haven’t enough time.

Bar for ICT dept and Heads of Year, depts have to pay for their own cartridges and paper, and even if they want a new printer they have to pay but it still doesn't stop them. Considering in a 12 month period we spent nearly 14k on cartridges across the whole school.

That’s what it mainly comes down to lack of planning one of the teachers that i car share with admitted this and also because of the convenience of having a printer right next to them. I have just introduced some print management software to manage and control printing and as you say to get people thinking about printing but it’s caused a really issue with staff.

In the school i work at the majority of staff are using their printers as glorified photocopiers, in part because they believe the photocopying charges for B&W and Colour are more than putting it through their department printers, i would like to know if fellow edugeeks are willing to share what their schools charge per A4 page for both B&W and Colour ours are currently 2p for B&W and 20p for Colour.

Does anybody have experience of setting up VLANs on Dell power connect 5224 switchers which are used for directing network traffic for the virtual servers, its a long story but we are getting lots of issues with VLANs not being set up and me and my colleague don’t have both the experience and confidence to start playing and setting up the VLANs. Any help on this matter would be great.

We've just had alto digital in looking at where they can save us money on printing, and i can only say that the account manager was great, done the survey come back in this week and give me the various options availble and the best thing i like wasn't pushy about making a decision.

its also because Serco doesn't go through LEAs, where as SIMS usual does and the buying power of a LEA is strong than an individual school.

The laptops with the issue were in the Science dept but nothing indicated any interference, its very handy having the Zone Director to monitor what is happening, and narrowing down potenial issues with W/L.

We have three sets of W/L laptops in school two are Dell and the thrid is HP of which i had nothing but problems connecting to the Ruckus W/L using experience gained in another school with the joys of W/L networks i put on all the lastest Windows updates, the lastest W/L drivers for the laptops and finally static IP addressed all the HP laptops as well as updating the Ruckus W/L to the lastest firmware. This now seems to have addressed the issue and i have had no problems since.

Anyone else having an issue with email today, certain users are having issues with it crashing out or just freezing. Checked everthing at our end and all seem fine.
