An external drive ? Have you tried it without the enclosure ? Have you cleaned the contacts on the hard drive PCB ?

I've yet to do one but the sockets are easy to replace using a BGA rework machine. I have half en eye on ebay looking for a suitable candidate.

No lights at all. I'd look at the power supply first and for an internal fuse although if the internal fuse has blow this tends to suggest something on the high side has failed in the power supply. Glad you've managed to find it in such a an obscure location. Perhaps used to power a radio ? There are plenty of different 18v 3A adapters available on ebay.

The iPad4 charger is 12 Watts all the other iPads are 10 Watts. I think the extra current draw is being detected and the port shut down.

Does it not say on the back or bottom ? Most electrical devices have a pin denotation and the power marked.

It should record to the internal IDE hard drive. There look to be three different types of recording. All the time, motion detect when the alarm is triggered or manually. Page 33. Is the hard drive ok ? I take it you are using the admin credentials ? make sure you're using the admin credentials and not the users for full access. Video playback is under the preview tab.

I have a similar flexible keyboard here. It's ok for occasional use but the keys are horribly mushy and it's not very nice to use. You'd hate to have to write more than a couple of sentences with it.

Remove the PCB from the hard drive, flip it over and check the contacts. If it's a Seagate or WD the contacts will be oxidised. This causes all sorts of errors. Clean with a pencil rubber then try your recovery attempts.

Its not something available from Maplins or Rapid. Its very simple to reattach the new jack with a soldering iron but a right struggle to remove. I use my hot air station, I charge £30 for socket replacements with the price of the part included.

Sadly it was standard practice at a CCTV place I worked at to leave all DVRs with the default usernames and passwords for ease of maintenance. They were also chucked into the DMZ because port forwarding was a bit tricky for some to set up.

It was the Nvidia bump scandal that Apple and several others got caught out with. The solder bumps fail internally of the chip due to poor quality underfill. Reflowing or reballing the chip can and often does repair the situation but usually only temporarily as the chip is defective and all that is really happening is the contacts are being resoldered inside the chip. Replacing with a new 2015 chip that doesn't have this issue is the solution however there are a massive amount of fake chips on the market and as Nvidia don't sell direct it's a bit of a crap shoot. You could try resetting the SMC, have you checked for dust bunnies in the fan ? how long is the random, a few seconds or minutes ?

No. Due to the way the keys move on the plastic there isn't anything to superglue too. Applying glue will stick the key in the up or down position, it won't move if glue is applied.

Can you measure the resistance of the old and new fan ? Fans have different wattage ratings, voltage is applied, they draw the required current. Photos of the stickers on the fans might help identify the difference. Was the 33v you measured with or without the load of the fan ? Your amp has thermal protection. It will turn off to protect itself it gets too hot. You don't need to worry when testing.

I've replaced quite a few 4cm fans in a load of switches I repaired. The fans are exhausting the heat from the ICs with heatsinks on which get a lot warmer than the power supply. It's the air flow that's the important part although fan speed does influence this. Depending on the load and switch placement you can get away with quieter fans that don't push so much air or is the noise a worn bearing ? You might be able to lubricate them if this is the case. Avoid sleeve bearings as they get noisy quickly, there's also the traditions ball bearings and also maglev which are zero friction and quieter. I'd stick with Sunon personally.

Oxidisation of the contacts on the PCB is far more common than internal hard drive failure. It results in all sorts of problems and is easily fixed with a pencil eraser. Worth taking a look on your failed drives before checking your RAID array I reckon.

The equal length cable for my four Control One speakers went in the ceiling and the cable for my subs and midrange goes behind the skirting. Battery powered speakers will need charging and any speakers with decent power are mains powered so need a plug behind them if you want your setup to give the impression of being wire free. KEF speakers are nice sounding, I personally would be looking to find a creative way to hide the wires and use what you already have. Screwfix sell white 22m diameter poly waste pipe, it has laser printed markings on part of one side but this easily sands off with some fine sand paper. Maybe hide the cables in that depending on your skirting.

If you want a visual deterrent of cameras on your wall Swann fit the bill. If you want a decent interface, reliable quality and to be able to identify any dodgy types then avoid. As above, Hikvision is what i recommend after working in a CCTV place for 6 months doing hardware repairs. The DC adapters provided with Swann stuff are garbage and contributed to a lot of the failures I saw. They sold Swann and Samsung stuff mostly. IP cameras are the way to go for clarity.

If I have any suspicion of hard drive issue the first thing I do is remove the PCB and check the contacts on the reverse side. The contacts oxidise leading to bad contact which manifests itself as various issues. It cleans off with a pencil rubber. I've saved loads this way. two rows of eight that control the heads etc. these three connect to the motor. It might not be hardware but software as above.
