  1. I'm still having problems with this GPO I totaly removed folder redirection and still the proxy will not apply although Gpresult says that it is applying. A whole weekend wasted on this one, and still no closer any ideas
  2. This is not the perfect off site backup solution but this is what I have done. I bought a Buffalo TerraStation and located it in a building on the college site that is away from the rest of the site. The building is connected by 1 gig fibre and I backup to it every night. The Buffalo TerraStation is in a comms cab in that building so its locked away from anybody who fancies a little play. As I said not perfect but it works for me
  3. Once when I was working for Royal Mail IT I had to drive 3 1/2 hours to a director who could not get his PC to work. When I got there I switched on the plug socket switch and hey presto one very embarrassed director
  4. Yes I am using Application Data folder redirection, but I have only just recently. Could it be this simple?
  5. I have a very strange group policy problem here is the setup Win2003 Domain, XP CLients SP2 I have a policy to set the proxy for my Students "IE Proxy and home page" but the policy does not work. So I have run GPresult and it confirms that the policy is being applied. I have checked for typos and everthing is fine. I applied this policy to test group so I could look at IE's configuration and nothing is in the proxy at all not even greyed. Anyone have any idea how this could be happening?
  6. I have solved it. The user has to map the SME drive and then the applications will work.
  7. Well I have installed sucessmaker (its qite long winded but went ok) I have everthing working as it was apart from when I try to start an application, i get the message "please insert CD ROM" Anybody have a fix for this?
  8. A little update...... after trying for all this time nearly 4 weeks I have finally got the correct document from RM although it has taken many phone calls
  9. A while back I ask about a thin client solution and many of you came back with suggestions, one of which was Precedence Technologies. Well their quote was the best with all they offered so we went with them. They have been in this week setting up the system and I must say I am very pleased. They have also supplied a program they have written called Net Manager, and its look really good giving me and who ever else the ability to disable and enable web access on a per room basis. There is loads more in there but I will need some time to play with it. Anyway if you are looking for a thin client solution try Precedence Technologies I'm glad I did.
  10. Depends on the day on how much time I get on here.

I am about to install rm successmaker, we lost our original install with the failure of a server earlier this year (well documented elsewhere) anyway after speaking to RM I am none the wiser on the install (but they can send an engineer to do it ) Someone here must have done an rm successmaker install or even better know where I can find some install documents. thanks in advance
  17. Totaly agree with you Chrish, it has to be one of the best tools I have found
  18. Gatt I have been having problems with RIS and Intel VE onboard NICS for about 4 months now. I solved it totaly this weekend using AutoImage that can be downloaded from here There is quite a process to get to the end product but it is well worth it as you will end up with a universal image that should work on most if not all your school machines and laptops. the web site is very informative and RogueSpear the guy who wrote the program is very helpful. give it a go you wont be dissappointed
  19. Thanks guys will try monday
  20. you are probably right but you know what its like if its there you just to have a go to see if you can do it
  21. I was going through old pci cards that have been stored in a big box since before I took on this position and I found an old Avantis CD Server Card. Now I remember opening a server up a long time ago and I think if I remember correctly this one card is all the server had in it and the rest was done remotley with their software. Firstly I'm wondering if I am right in what I remember, and secondy can I rebuild this server? Because if the school has this card it tells me they must have once owned a Avantis CD Server, and someone along the wayhas dismantled it. Does anyone have any knowledge of Avantis and do you have any idea how to set one up from scratch ( of course if this is allowed)
  22. I'm time syncing with my domain controller because I had already read that post, but thanks for replying.
  23. I have just installed censornet, and I know that a few of you are using it here, so I have a question I imported the users and the workstations and put them into groups, that all seems to be working, but when a user opens their internet browser and get the censornet log on box, entering their network username and password doesn't work, so have I missed something in the install? :?
