  1. I actually want to get the Nvidia tablet soon. I wouldn't say it's "handheld" unless you have 4 hands- two for the tablet and two for the controller. If you're looking a PSP format, I suggest looking at the Nvidia Shield Portable.

    RAID 6 SSD caching

recommendation I'll get that. Thanks for the .
  3. On the way!
  4. Hi, We have got Impero deployed to most of the student workstations however not to staff laptops. We do get silly helpdesk emails and 90%+ of the time it can be resolved with a remote connection. I prefer not to use VNC or TV. In Server 2008 you were able to interact with the users session and control the KB/M but I can't find that in the Server 2012. Has that been discontinued?
  5. As SHimmer45 said, it's best to disable inheritance and do permissions per folder basis to avoid users creating and dropping stupid stuff into folders. It's also the "eureka" moment you have when doing permissions, I couldn't get my head around it but suddenly... EUREKA! When you do permissions again, sit down and look at it with clear mind and try to visualize Helps a lot!
  6. Not sure if that exists in R2 2008 but when you make a new VM you have an option to restore from existing. I am far off on this one?
  7. Hi guys/gals, I want to do ABP for our online Exchange and I'm kind of stuck with this one. All staff and pupil emails are in one bag and when kids look up teachers it shows their first name. The SMT doesn't want that (why? I don't know), can anyone link me a guide on how to set up an ABP policy so that only the first letter of the name and surname shows up? So instead of having "John Smith" I'd like to see "J Smith". This has to be done in power shell. Thanks!

    RAID 6 SSD caching

Thanks for the reply. We have got an LSI Raid card that supports CacheCade so that's not a problem. I am aware of SSD limited writes.. I have not considered 15k sas drives. What sort of performance am I looking at with 2x 15k sas drives in Raid 0?
  9. Hi, I'm planning on doing SSD caching for our RAID 6 array. I want to improve replication speed as well as 4K R/W (terrible atm). We have got a 10Gbps link between the servers so a RAID 0 caching array would be perfect. Any SSD recommendations? I need them to last. The budget is 400 quid per SSD. Thanks.
  10. Hi, We have moved our entire e-mail to the cloud a few weeks back. Unfortunately, I forgot to export 3 mailboxes' history. The owners of those mailboxes want the history back. Furthermore we have done a comeplte network changeover with new servers and domain. The old exchange server no longer works (looking for old domain credentials), however, the database files are still there. I was wondering if it is possible to create a new server and restore a exchange database with just those files? I tried looking around google and technet with no luck.
  11. Okay guys, I've managed to fix the problem. I found a script on a website, I ran it and it worked right away Thanks for the help!
  12. I'll leave it overnight and see if that does anything. It's not a very powerful VM
  13. Remote desktop
  14. I remote to it from my computer, logged on as domain admin. I've also added every possible available exchange permissions to the domain admin account.
  15. It's a VM. How do I check if the management tools are installed properly?
  16. Logged in as domain admin. done that twice now, it's a VM so... It could take a while as you said. It's only got 5GB of ram and two cores.
  17. Hi guys, I'm doing an exchange server, I've installed the server and got all the pre-requisites however when I go to the GUI to configure servers, mailboxes and so on, I don't have ANY actual options. Below is a picture explaining what I mean. I don't have the + plus symbol next to the organization. Never done exchange, so I am green as grass.
  18. It's a LSI Megaraid so not that bad. I've also done some testing with crystaldisk benchmark and the max write was 180MBps so the transfer is about right.
  19. Both are brand new servers, exactly the same spec with the RAID6 array fully configured. The RAID 6 has got 6x3TB WD SATA3 drives.
  20. Exactly the same as you just specified. 6x3TB drives.
  21. Yep, that's off on all of the switches. It's odd because I just did a test with iperf and I got 6Gbps (maxing out disks).
  22. Not sure what you mean... There is no actual switch, it's a vSwitch on one port and that's how the other server connects.
  23. Hi guys, I recently fixed a problem with file transfers from host to VM being slow. Not it's a problem with Veeam. I am trying to do an initial replication to the secondary virtual host. Both servers are connected with a 10Gbps Intel NICs. Both adapters confirm 10Gbps. File transfers are also slow between the hosts when I do a network copy. Getting around ~30MB/s. Any idea where the problem might be? EDIT: I verified throughput with iperf and that shows 5.68Gbps. I'm maxing the disks then but why such slow speeds with files?
  24. you Sir, deserve a cookie and a beer. Disabled IPv4 Offload on the vSwitches and it works!
  25. There are two, but forget another the 2nd one. It's about the first one, copying from it to the VM running on it.
