  1. Originally there were four of us in here, but it's been refitted a bit now. Only the front end guys here now (2) and looks like this: But, we now have an extension - which I and my Deputy have moved into, along with 2 of the guys from the original office (one of who is only here once or twice a week): And the view from my desk: I am now:
  2. Our "mail_all" list is restricted, so that there are only a handful of (responsible) people who can send to it. These make very good filters, and not that many non-urgent mails get through them..
  3. Not good. Poor bloke.
  4. Wanted to post this issue, but couldn't make it onto the forums about 10 minutes ago.. seems better at the moment. Famous last words, probably.
  5. Our IT recycler turns them into ball bearings, and certifies that. When I looked at this a few years ago, it was cheaper than buying a destruction machine.
  6. Have you created the MX and A records for the new domain - either with your provider, or locally if you manage your own DNS?
  7. Summer was a nightmare - our account manager (Dan Whittaker) has now left the company, and Misco are really trying hard to retain my custom with very aggressive quoting. Unfortunately, the service over Summer was diabolical and cost us a lot of wasted time and effort. I had already moved some of my business to another supplier. There's no point in apologising and offering better pricing now - they've destroyed what was a good relationship.
  8. It *is* available as a rack mount server - we replaced ours last year with a VM though, as it was more convenient for us to do that... We've had Securus for donkeys years here, and to be fair it does require a lot of time to check the logs, but why get one if that's NOT what you're prepared to do? Seems a bit pointless to get a monitoring box, and then not actually spend time checking it? It can be configured, over time, to be more specific about it's reports, so it does get better.
  9. Now on website: Hampton School - Support Staff Thanks, Ian
  10. What Chris said.. exactly that. Mine is really good, and always does the absolute best for us. If he goes, I probably go looking for another company.
  11. 2014 08 IT Technician v5.pdf I am just finishing the job pack for this one, but have some basic information here.. Salary will be £22,689/annum, and this will be a first line support role. I will post the full pack as soon as it is available. Position requires filling ASAP, so please contact me directly if interested. Experience of Windows 7 (laptops on wireless), wireless devices (iPad etc), projectors, printers and other random classroom tech is required. MS Office knowledge is also required. Apple experience is beneficial, but not essential. This is a junior position in the department, and as such, support and training is always available from other team members. A willingness to learn, and "can do" attitude is a necessity!
  12. I had this with a few iPhones a while back - the solution below worked on all mine, so might be worth a look.. (shamefully stolen from somewhere I can't remember now!) iOS Exchange connection fix There are some issues with ActiveSync for both Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010 users whereby some users can connect their Mobile Devices (Windows Mobile Phones / iPhones / Motorola Droid etc) quite happily and ActiveSync pushes mail to the devices, but other users cannot connect and cannot sync anything at all. There appear to be plenty of potential solutions for this problem around if you search the web, but the solution to the majority of these problems can be solved quite simply. If you open up Active Directory Users and Computers and locate one of your users that is not working, Double-Click into the account and click on the Security Tab (if this is not visible, Click on View> Advanced Features from the Menu at the top of the screen then navigate back to your user). Once on the security tab, click on the Advanced Button and make sure that the ‘Include Inheritable Permissions From This Object’s Parent’ is ticked. Click OK twice to close the user account. Once the box is ticked, you should then be able to connect up your Mobile Device to your Exchange Server and receive your mail like the rest of your users.
  13. We buy the parts (from the 'states), and do it all in-house with a hot air-gun and some microwavable heat packs.
  14. Thanks Sam, I'll throw your details to my tech.
  15. Normally, we have a charity come in and collect all out empty cartridges (toner and ink), but they have not been able to now for quite some time. I have a considerable number building up here... What do you guys/girls all do with these? I've seen a couple of options, but they either a) want me to pay(!) or b) they only take specific types which have to be itemised. Is this normal now?
  16. Very slow here.. getting just the blue background on some page changes.
  17. In the end - no, although I can't really remember why not!
  18. Basically, it is/was a hardware recovery solution - restoring everything back to what it was like previously. Apparently able to recover from even a format. Promise I didn't Google it - we actually looked at these quite a few years ago for IT Labs!
  19. True, it's not cheap in the immediate area, and that has been a problem for some in the past.
  20. We're not going to - but you could!
  21. *bump* - only 5 applications, and 2 of them via an agency!
  22. We used Dovestones until last year. Pretty good tools, and cheap. Now moving towards SIMS ADP.... (please save me).
  23. Trousers and polo shirts (school logo'd) for techs & me (although I think some would prefer me in a suit). Holidays is Hawaiian shirt and shorts. Even in winter.
