Here, at least, we have no managed services (excluding the e-mail filtering and internet filtering solutions from LGfL at least). I have two techies who work for me, and we cover most everything in-house, only going outside for major projects, such as the recent Citrix overhaul we had earlier this break.

We've just received 7 laptops with Vista Business on, which in itself isn't a problem, but installing Office 2003 seems to be... We are getting an error on installing which is "Error 1913 - setup cannot update file C:\windows\system32\mapisvc.inf"... Anyone seen this before, and have a fix? Can't seem to find anything useful on the internet..

We've been using a couple of 5306's in the above configuration for about 3 years now... decent kit, no problems with them at all.

Blue screens my PC whenever I start the program Contacted their Tech Support - they sent some files over, still bluescreens. Mailed them back - no response since. Free is not always good!

Bit antiquated perhaps, but why not install a modem and use PCAnywhere.. ?

Yes, you need to install twcli32.msi, which you'll find in the WINDOWS\system32\clients\twclient folders. And yes, it only works through a share, not on the server itself.

I haven't seen this anywhere - is it on general release?

Isn't this the Apple equivalent of no boot drive for a PC? I think it means that the drive has a problem, and can't boot Mac OS, which would mean a rebuild (or a repair if possible?)..

Turning this on should not have any detrimental effect on the network or the switch - at least, i've done it here on the 5308's we have, and there were no problems.

Also watch out for the power supply requirements for blade chassis... some require 16 amp supplies, which you may not have / be able to put in easily!

Anyone who has issues with this sort of thing are the people with the problem, not you. I've had at least two people working for me with dyslexia and associated problems, and I've never had a problem with them. It's just another thing life throws at people, and something that can be ignored or worked around... doesn't affect the quality of work, or the ability to do it, at all. As you say, one of my techs (who sadly has left), was a highly motivated, intelligent guy who I defended as if it was me!

XDA Exec here... brilliant for everything I've tried, but mostly for sync'ing with Exchange etc.. Runs TomTom just fine, but yes, a little bulky. I can live with it for the features though.

I use O&O Disk recovery tools for this sort of thing - can recover deleted partitions, formatted drives, or damaged drives that show nothing at all... been fairly successful, and cost less than £100 for educational license.

Sounds like you lost the Schema for Exchange when you rebuilt the servers... Have you re-extended it?

We had this with a batch of 80 HP D530's that we bought three years ago. About half of them had motherboard failures due to this problem. I got HP to come and and replace ALL the motherboards on the ones that had not yet been replaced. Took them three days to get them all done.

Yes.. you still need the TS license (£9.50 we paid, each) in addition to the Citrix ones... the external connector is.. uh.. about £1,500... Looking back at the records for last year, the Citrix cost is totally connection based, so you pay per connection - there is no additional cost for the actual product itself, and it was £125 per Citrix Licence (that's for Enterprise Edition, Standard would be a bit cheaper)

Putting aside the cost of the hardware and the Citrix itself, we bought 200 Citrix licenses at about £120 each... we haven't actually had that many people on at once yet, but that may (and probably will!) change in September when we open it up properly. Also you need to factor in the TS client requirements, both internal and external. We bought an unlimited external license, and 200 internal CAL's for that. So I guess you could sat that is was about £130 per connection to the farm, with 200 as a limit. If you start factoring in the initial cost of the hardware and the Citrix application itself, it would be going up considerably...

We have about 1300 students (all of whom will have access to the Citrix servers from home starting in September), 150-odd teaching staff + support staff. There are around 300 PC's and 140 laptops (for staff). Some of it is duplication due to the fact we have two entirely distinct networks - one for academic and one for admin/bursary, as there have always been security concerns from the powers that be. Hopefully, this is being addressed over the next term, and I can get on with merging the domains!

39.. Made up of a 12 server Citrix farm, file servers for each year group and one for staff, Exchange, SIMS, 3 DC's, several webservers, the Bursary servers and several others. And a NWN server...

We have both a Thawte Certificate (for the Citrix portal), and an in-house certificate for the Web Access component of Exchange... it's easily done by setting up your own CA. As it will only be your users accessing it, and presumably trusting you, wouldn't that be ok for you?
