Indeed, but as I said, it was a different drive that I actually sent off, not the one I initially posted about. To the other answers, I don't have the drive, they do, so I couldn't try anything on it software wise. I did try initially, but this particular drive is a mechanical failure. It doesn't register on the OS, and just clunks nastily. Last I heard, and it was a LONG time again, they were swapping bits from another drive. My guess is they have lost it, and nobody wants to own up.

Update.. for those who are thinking about using these people.. I sent a different (failed) drive off in September.. I've now spent ALL the intervening time calling and e-mailing. It's been nigh on impossible to get an answer. My sales manager "got promoted to the USA", the engineer working on it "got promoted to another dept".. another guy took over and sent a pro-forma for the work saying I had been "really unlucky" and he would get it sorted. Now he's not answering mails either. I wouldn't use them again after this is resolved.

I did this morning.. I have two (work and personal), so I HAD to have the e-mail sound different on the work one as it's the emergency alert system.. Used Blackrain on the PC, as the Mac version didn't work for me.

To be fair, not on it's own no - we use the settings: User Config - Admin Templates - System - Ctrl+Alt+Del Options - Remove Logoff User Config - Start Menu and Taskbar - Remove Logoff on the Start Menu User Config - Start Menu and Taskbar - Remove and Prevent Access to the Shut Down command and, as I said, provide an Icon for shutting it down instead. I realise that this adds a minute or two at the start of a lesson, but as we use Provisioning server, this means that every kid gets a brand new desktop every time, and as far as workstations go we rarely have problems anymore other than forgotten passwords.

We've set a group policy to remove logoff, restart and shutdown from the start menu, and simply have a "shutdown this workstation" icon on the desktop for exactly this reason.

A large pile of books as listed below, covering Server 2000. These are just taking up space in the office now, but I'd hate to just throw them out.. does anyone have any need for these? Here, for the most part, yes. I can only think of one who doesn't currently have one.

We are using Citrix Provisioning Server here to push out Windows images to 7 different desktop hardware types. One of the images has about 100 PC's using it, the others are varying numbers. It's run from 4 Provisioning Servers and a NetApp filer holding the images. Easy to update, and quite quick to boot. We do not have ANY student PC's that are NOT provisioned in this way. Some cache to RAM, some to HDD depending on the RAM in that particular PC type... if it has 1Gb or more, it's cached to RAM and the hard disks are not connected (less power, less heat, less to go wrong!) I'm currently working on an XP image for the Acer Revo's that we will be rolling out in January. You're welcome to see it if you want to.

Not much here either really.. we did collect the Tesco vouchers, but they were worth so little, it really was pointless. We managed to get one photo printer, and a single iMac in about 4 years. I think the parents had to spend something like £100k to even get that much. Other departments were much better off for voucher trade-ins, but for IT at least it was a complete waste of time.

There are many varieties of VNC, and most are free.. look at UltraVNC, I use that here and it seems fine. http://www.uvnc.com/

It's the A200 body, with 18-70 kit lens, and an additional Tamron 70-300 zoom lens. Both come with skylight filters and polarisers. There are a couple of 4Gb memcards, and a cabled remote release as well. Also included is a case for the camera (does not fit in with the bigger lens though!). Just over a year old, with low activations (somewhere around 2k I think), and all in as-new condition. Looking for offers in the region of £275.

As above, if anyone wants to see a VMWare farm running a virtual Citrix Farm of 20 servers, plus about 10 or so others, including Exchange and SIMS etc, and is close(ish) to Hampton, you're more than welcome. ps.. we also have a fully functioning Citrix Provisioning system, for network boots of all our IT Suites. Happy to show this as well.
