  1. We had a deer run through the academy once last year. Strange thing is we are in the middle of leicester so where it came from I dont know matt
  2. No worries, to be honest, I'm a brutally honest person at times and if I thought you was being an idiot I would call you an idiot, however, it was me that I thought was being an idiot thats why i added the "surely" at the end as I was sitting there thinking, did i not try that? haha Wouldn't partonise or undermine a fellow IT professional either. Thanks Matt
  3. its just a viewer so i was told, might be useful to some though. Matt
  4. Are you for real? Firstly it wasn't sarcasm, it was a genuine comment of "correct me if I am wrong" as I am quite aware I am not right all the time and am happy to be corrected. EDIT: on second reading maybe it was the first bit I was being sarcastic with it but even that has a question mark which shows that I was unsure of the answer. .... Secondly, the internet has no context so your either in a bad mood or you have clearly read that as you felt it was meant, which is not how I meant it which shows your issues not mine. I really despair! Matt
  5. yeah just tried to get those subscribed to this thread involved
  6. Yeah that is clearly not going to work across multiple vlans in a managed switch environment surely? Correct me if I am wrong. I would imagine the switches wouldnt like it or the wireless controller. Will try it tomorrow though. Matt
  7. thanks maniac, thats what i thought its just i know theres products out there that dont work like this at all, either with some kind of server product that they point to or via port 80. I guess the functionality of them is reduced given the broadcast nature of the school based products but its just a shame if I have to use two products one for classroom management and one for network management. Matt
  8. Any issues with Vlans or does nobody here use them?
  9. Really no one with any thoughts?
  10. Hello Everyone, We are just trialing what i thought was a great product. It installs like a dream, is super easy to use and ticks all the boxes we need. However, when using it we found that it couldn't find our wireless laptops and then discovered the broadcast / multicast settings that are needed. This doesn't work for a few reasons, a) we have 5 vlans, student desktop/wireless, staff desktop/wireless and server network. so straight away the 3 network options means we cant run it on all 5 vlans b) Broadcast traffic, it says in a manual I have been sent that my managed switches need to be configured to allow this traffic. Are you for real? Do i need to change all my switches for your software to work? c) If I am a techie who wants to use the tool for remote access I can use channel 0 (great stuff) but the the above vlan issue will stop it working how i need it to. Now I am wondering if I am completly wrong about all this and there is something I am missing, if anyone works in environment where you have this working, working well in a managed switch VLAN environment please let me know how you overcame these issues. Thanks Matt
  11. I don't think they are talking about a specific software solution I think they mean a managed system from pupil guidence right to filtering the workstations. As in let them on some of the sites and give them the required knowledge to make informed decisions as well as having procedures in place to deal with inevitable problems. Matt
  12. So I am trying to find a definitive legal answer for this and cant quite get it right. If I record something on BBC 1 and then digitise it and put it on our media servers where do I stand legally for the broadcasting of this in the classroom as well as other terestrial channels. As far as I am aware this has been the case since VHS was invented but as we are now in a digital world with DRM I am trying to cover myself and the school by getting some legal confirmation so any links to such information would also be great. Thanks Matt
  13. Hello Everyone, I am looking to see what others have done with their school magazines. We are looking at starting our own online publication and would like to see yours, so if you want to show off please feel free to post them here or mail me matthewphughes at gmail dot c o m Thanks Matt

  20. I have just written a blog post for you guys just so i can show you what i have seen in google wave so far. No marketing poo on my blog just the facts and screenshots. Matthew Hughes My dive into the Google Wave Matt
  21. i got my invite a few days ago, its pointless unless you have people to collaborate with. I wait for the rest of the sharepoint community to join and then i will se a use in it. In short google wave is a collaborative environment where you can join at anytime and catch up with how the conversation has progressed thanks to replay. Also giving real time viewing of the wave allowing it to be a realtime forum software too. The possabilities really are endless and anyone who uses office communicator / email or anything similar, can see how this could benefit the workplace not to mention the vast use it can bring to the classroom. Matt Matt
  22. Thats not really an excuse now is it Tom? I think you can tell from this thread that it is infact just the service people are expecting to recieve even after the 2 years since the original post. Matt
  23. How many do you have with embedded flash? I use ispring free to convert the powerpoints to flash too so if that don't work take a look at some of the others. Adobe do some elearning stuff which promises good conversion although i think i tried it and iSpring performed better. Dont hold me to that either. Thanks Matt
  24. Actually, the resources dont necessarily need to be scorm compliant depending in what format they are. I.e. if its word docs you dont need to repackage them same with powerpoitn publisher etc. Scorm is useful for quizzes and anything where you want the instant feedback of automatically marked or scored content. Please any correct me if i am wrong but thats how i understand it and have used it for out LP. Thanks Matt
  25. oh right as in the name of the computer, not My Computer? i thought you was trying to rename "computer" back to "my computer" like in the XP days. Matt
