  4. Hahaha how much did they pay you for that? Matt
  5. Create a room booking system and then add timetabled lessons to it. Anything outside of that is bookable and if they are seen to be booking it and not using it, make a note of it and then bring it up in management convos. Thanks Matt
  6. I currently work at an Academy in Leicester but am also involved in a social enterprise which is basically a non profit organisation providing training and consultancy. We are now in the position where we are getting a premises and have no office furniture. I am looking for any of the following, Office desks, chairs or tables (as in tables that are in teaching classes) SMART board or similar? Any old, but working PC's. (The plan is to use them as thin clients connecting to our server for training so they dont have to be uber powerful) Flip charts or anything you'd expect in an office. I work in a school and we chuck things like this all the time so I am hoping some of you may do the same and feel the need to help a fellow edugeeker out. I am based in Leicester, east midlands and am prepared to travel a reasonable distance to collect anything on offer. Thanks Matt
  7. Nice post Kyle, In the real world they wouldn't change your contract to add that on unless specifically requested. It is more likely that you would be asked to do the job in your core hours. Thanks Matt
  8. Steps would be getting permission from senior leadership. Most Leadership teams will be happy to use you to teach classes as generally your cheaper then a qualified teacher, however, if your looking at going down the professional route and changing jobs then you would need some recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE. If you are a graduate you could also look at the GTP route and there's something called teach first but I don't know much about it.
  9. Wow this thread has been resureccted from 2008. Anyway, we have a 7 server Hyper-V setup which hosts around 30 servers. Dc's, SharePoint, SQL Server, Terminal Servers anything and everything.
  10. Start with preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector or PTLLS as its known. Thats what I have done whilst I get my degree. Thanks Matt
  11. take a look at this post http://www.edugeek.net/forums/east-midlands-broadband-consortium-embc/63142-leicester-schools-network-meeting-4th-october-2010-a.html its a Leicester meeting but quite happy to open it up to the East Midlands if there is enough interest. Thanks Matt
  12. Tony Sheppard (GrumbleDook) is now going to attend and present on FITS which I am sure will be good for everyone. Agenda has been update. Thanks Matthew Hughes
  13. Hello All, Will be sending the confirmations and details fairly shortly, please can those of you that have said they are coming on here please let me know what their real names are so that I have not missed anyone (via PM if you'd prefer). Looking forward to it now hope its as useful as I hope. Thanks Matt
  14. Just a quick bump as we have a bit more interest with around 10 people confirmed now so if anyone else is interested let me know Thanks Matt
  15. If you want to attend this then please fill in the form on the site and I will add you to our mailing list Thanks Matt
  16. Really happy to have you guys interested. I am looking at topics that people might be interested in and would welcome any ideas from LA schools as we are not one and so our experiences are very different in that respect. Given that some schools will be looking at Windows 7 over the summer as well as Hyper-V these are two subjects we may cover ourselves. I would like to get 4 speakers for 20 mins each and welcome any offers for this. Agenda is updated and hopefully it looks like a useful 2 hours. Given that this is my first time organising something like this I would welcome any constructive criticism and I really do mean that, if you think the times/dates are not right or anything like that please let me know Thanks Matthew Hughes Updated here - http://www.leicesterschoolsnetwork.co.uk/events-3/
  17. It looks like LEAMIS put on some sort of get together but this is for Leicestershire County Council schools so I am going to push forward with trying to get something going for City and County schools so if anyone is interested in attending and/or speaking let me know. I am trying to get some speakers for short sessions and will confirm things via the website over the newt couple of weeks. I will also be emailing all the schools I can get email addresses for with details. Thanks Matthew Hughes
  18. Anyone know if these are still going? I remember meetings around five years ago and have see posts mentioning something like this but can't see any details. If they are not going anymore is anyone interested in starting something like this up? I made this website Leicester Schools Network and then realised it might already be setup. So if it is then I will post details on there, if not lets get busy. Thanks Matthew Hughes
  19. We actually purchased this but unfortunately due to the limitations that Richard kindly displays on his website, we have found it to be a little difficult to use in practice. The downloading and uploading of files does not meet the user expectations and so we have had to remove it. We have had several users say that they have "lost" work when it is in fact been in there "temp" folder although this may just be a training issues as we never trained the users with this particular web part. Not sure if this has changed and I know this is something that was on SalamanderSofts list of things to do. Thanks Matt
  20. Doesnt that just ping the devices? Also is their email functionality for that? Matt
  21. Hello Everyone, Please can you tell me what you use for network and service monitoring. I.e. I would like something that monitors websites http://www.mywebsite.com, port 80 443 or whatever,is it up? I would like something that monitors switches 10.x.x.x I would like something that monitors services, exchange 2010 up and running? SharePoint? Remote Desktop Services etc. I would like it to be Windows Server based (2008 if poss) and SQL Server backend if poss. Any offers of useful software would be great. Nagios seems to be built on Linux and have tried GFI network server monitor which doesn't seem as useful as id have hoped as well as seeming to be slightly out dated. Thanks Matt
  22. I think it would be useful, Alex's presentation especially whereas Richards probably wouldnt help as I dont think you have the freedom to install things like the SLK with Kaleidos. Thanks Matt
  23. Hello Everyone, Just thought you may be interested that this thursday there is a SharePoint usergroup meeting in Leicester at the Samworth Enterprise Academy details of which can be found, SharePoint User Group UK - March 18 - Meeting - Leicester It is an educational based SUGUK meeting so hopefully some of you will be interested. Thanks Matt
  24. Hey FN-GM multicast does work across the different vlans but is not talking to the wireless controller at all so maybe it needs to be configured to allow that broadcast traffic which in all fairness, is not so bad as its just 1 controller. I am going to test a bit more and also giv ethe teachers a different bit of software (smart sync, net support school) in the other two classrooms and see which they prefer. Its the only good way to do it in my opinion. Thanks for your help and I do agree about the support, they have been helpful so its a +1 for that Thanks Matt P.s. Anyone with a Cisco wireless controller who has this working please let me know as it would be nice to see what you had to change before I go investigating more.
