Go with sharepoint Matt

Dont get sold ont he scorm complient software a lot of it is just PDF's and publisher files packaged to fit ina VLE which you can do yourself without the added cost. I agree with what has been said about getting departments on board. Matt

Personally i dont like it as i prefer clean designs and its a bit cluttered with all the different materials but i do agree with what others said, depending on the kids ages that its aimed at, i am sure they will love it. Matt

IJT - Ink Jets & Toners - makingitgreen.co.uk ARGHHH
mattmoo replied to intrigue's topic in Bad Experiences
Interesting that you have 1 post and have left it at that. For me its not quicker to pick up the phone, especially with pushy sales people. As for the give them a chance before you slag them off? As it was me that started the original post all that time ago and a different alias ago, i will say that i originally gave IJT a chance and i am sure my fellow edugeekers would also do the same, the problem i had was given the chance and 2nd chance and 3rd chance they were still horrible to deal with and it looks as though nothing has changed. Excactly what bugged me, asked them several times to stop the Emails / phone calls and faxes. Matt -
Very good tech_guy

No i don't think it works in that way its just a media player, although you could write some javascript to change the xml file i am sure. However, if you cant write XML then javascript is probably out of the question. I am sure you can find a player where you drop the songs in a directory and it creates a playlist you can select from on the fly. Matt

Doesn't it just use an xml file? In which case it should be a piece of p*** The documentation is quite good if i remember rightly

When i called setanta to see if i could subscribe for a month they wanted £27 for the first month and then £12.95 or similar for the following months. So it would have cost me £40 for the month to watch 1 game. Setanta didnt have enough good games on and having paid stupid money for sky sports and movies i dont see the point in paying extra for more sport. Matt

Could you post the last release? Thanks Matt

We did the upgrade and SSO broke which was majorly annoying along with the bitlets refusing to load. We have now implemented the username in the web.config "fix" which is just rubbish and what i cant understand is how it can work before and break afterwards or more to the point, take a step backwards. We had an explination re: NTLM versions etc, which really doesn't matter to me either way, what matters is when we have a system that works fine and then an upgrade breaks it. That is NOT an upgrade, that is a catastophic failure and how these "upgrades" can be released without a mass of testing is beyond me. Given the data and importance that is held within any MIS system it really is very very annoying at the very least. We were also told about the firefox fix for a previous version and again, a suggestion like this from any support team is pathetic. Changing browsers is not a fix. Thanks Matt p.s. these are my personal views and do not represent the views of anyone else at all EVER. (you would think i wouldn't have to say this but experience tells me i do.)

Printing - How much do you spend an academic year?
mattmoo replied to mattmoo's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for your replies guys, keep them coming. We did have a laserjet in each of the phase 1 classrooms (11) and have since removed them in favour of about 4 across the phase with 2 in general areas. The mono and colour in the LRC has most of the useage but i think we will have to start monitoring if nothing else as the costs are rediculous. Thanks Matt -
Please can you let me know if possible Size of school (students & staff) Amount of printers (if poss) Total cost of consumables this academic year or last year? We have spent £17, 000 in 10 months 35 printers 700 students & 160 staff Also how do you manage your printing? Thanks Matt

Welcome to the 21st century. The culture at school is a lot different to how it was 10 years ago let alone if your older then that. As has been said before, the teenagers of today are the first generation to not know what it is like to live without computers / internet. Therefore the way teaching and learning is approached now, has to include technology and if it means giving kids 5 mins free time to play games online then so be it. Its a quick win and you can concentrate on the kids that take longer to finish the assignments and obviously need more help. All that and im a techie not a teacher matt

probably next term which will be April 20th + Maybe I should create a Wiki and try and get some other schools involved, we could create some form of Education Games Alliance for approved games. Matt

We are going to buy 120 and stick Vista on them, we have been trialing the Toshiba and Samsung one with the bigger screened samsung coming out as favourite. They work fine with vista and should fit nicely in our network. Matt
-
We are looking at doing this for our VLE, so that during "free time" the kids will be allowed to play on an "approved" list of games, i may also have some form of student forum which will decide whether certain games should be allowed or not as per our pupil engagement commitment. Matt

quicktime webpart to play ipod files
mattmoo replied to azadsani's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
By playing ipod files do you mean MP3's? If so maybe embedding quicktime is not your best bet and something like a flash mp3 player would be better. Especially if you could find one that links to a document library Matt -
Is it me or is the salary quite low for the assistant NM? Matt

We have had the same problem with a video camera that was purchased outside of IT and they lost the power supply. Who do they turn to? IT of course. We have a simple, if we don't buy it, we don't support it policy. Matt

quicktime webpart to play ipod files
mattmoo replied to azadsani's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Content editor webpart will strip out some of the embedded code i think, in case your wondering why it wont work. There is also a modified content editor webpart floating around on the net which will allow embedding to work. But the above method should work anyway matt
