So they are claiming they have a proprietary connection using an open standard? Sorry, but they don't know what they are talking about. It's an OPS slot, it uses the OPS dimensions and the OPS standard connector. There's a fair chance they say it just so you buy their pc instead of getting it cheaper elsewhere.

OPS is an open standard, you can shop around for an OPS system from elsewhere, I know @VeryPC sell them, they may have a better price for you!

Our viewsonic panels all have OPS PCs installed and are used standalone.

With proper monitoring in place, you can get alerts for hardware issues. Also, get some proper redundancy in place if everything is as mission critical as you claim it is!

Amazon devices are very locked down to Amazon services with their own launcher, no play store either, I wouldn't use one in a professional environment.
