You need to find out whether you have a MB950LL/A or a MC413LL/A as they have different graphics cards. If it is Nvidia, it's technically a notebook gpu, so you'd have to use the notebook driver. EDIT: nevermind!

I was in a similar situation, don't bother with an online survey imo. When I started I made sure I was introduced to everyone in an all staff briefing, I then spent the time visiting every class teacher, seeing how they use their equipment, and discussing their needs and issues. You can email out as many surveys as you like, but if they don't like/trust IT they will probably be ignored. Make yourself approachable and engage with the staff, and you will quickly have them on board.

My preferred method was outside, with a hoover going to catch the bulk of the crud, and a dust mask so you can still breathe! I'd also recommend goggles to avoid eye irritation, and forming a schedule so that computers can be cleaned on a regular basis to avoid the buildup getting too bad!

Sounds like that house is wired very strangely! I'd grab a socket tester to make sure the socket is wired correctly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kewtech-KEWCHECK103-Wiring-Socket-Tester/dp/B004HU2MI2 If the laptop is fine in another socket, then there's an issue with that socket.
