Unlike the static camera's which are just planted anywhere they fancy lol. On my last count to Edinburgh, there were 24 static speed cameras on the road from the borders to edinburgh.

We have some machines here that need the 'AC97 Enable Front Panel Support' checkbox ticking within the Realtek HD Audio Manager in order for the front panel jack and the internal speakers to work. However, when I say some machines, I mean close to 100 - has anybody got a way I can do this on bulk, perhaps through pushing out a registry key that makes the necessary change? Thanks,

On a 6 month old Dell of 'normal classroom spec' (if there is such a thing) takes 30-40 seconds here. Profiles are not cached here so are downloaded each logon from the server. Obviously, older hardware takes a few more seconds. EDIT: After a little testing we're actually looking at 15-30 second logon times after the initial profile for that user has been created on the server.

Ofsted - Does it involve senior ict technician / NM?
Hightower replied to tj2419's topic in General Chat
2 ofsted's, all at different schools - never been asked a thing, not even where the toilets are. Our shared tech has been involved in about a dozen over his years and all his schools ask him not to come in, but to be on call from our school - so he has had no involvement either. -
If your OU's are structured then just leave it at authenticated users. That way, if you assign a GPO to the Staff OU it will just assign to all staff as they are in the OU (and are authenticated). However, if you want to assign the GPO to only some staff in the OU, then remove the authenticated and put in the security group name. That way it will only assign to those in that security group. As an example to this, we have OU's for each class, and each class has all the student PC's as well as a single teacher PC. We want most software to install to all PC's in this group, but we only want SIMS and SmartBoard software to install to the teaching machine. Rather than create a sub OU to allocated the software, we just: 1) Created a new security group called 'teaching machines' 2) Allocated the GPO to install this software to the top level so any machine can pick it up 3) Removed auth users from the GPO and added teaching machines group 4) Add the machines that need it to the security group That way ICT1-Teacher gets SIMS, but all the others don't as they don't belong to the group.

That is a corker!

I'm looking into Dreambox Satellite Receivers and would like to talk to someone who can offer some purchasing advice. If you use a dreambox (or similar) would you mind dropping me a PM so I can ask a few questions? Thanks,

Cheers @Russdev - tried those instructions step by step this morning and seems to be working exactly as I need.

[video] Don't get stuck in the IT past
Hightower replied to jon_Walsh's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
I didn't say it was missing anything. I said it wasn't up to scratch. It might have all the features and more of Xen, but it was a complete pain to get working when I tried it around 4 months ago. In fact, I spent 2 weeks jumping through hoops to try and get it going on our brand new hardware, and in the end opted for Xen which I got going in about 10 minutes - in that manner, it isn't up to scratch. -

In other words, the Microsoft Hyper-V is still not up to scratch when compared with Xen and VMWare, so they are washing their hands of it. -
Cheers @Russdev, will give that a go on Tuesday and feedback. I did try various things which didn't seem to work, but will try it exactly by your instructions and see what happens.

Ah, so surely these comments are objective and must have some sort of proof. I think Asda's special ranges are good quality and could compete with the best of other markets, but these comments are subjective. Show me some report that says Waitrose meat is better than Asda meat and I'll stand corrected. Until you do that, your comments are simply a matter of opinion, and we all know what opinions are worth

Is it possible to setup Impero so that: ICT1-Teacher can only see ICT1 machines ICT2-Teacher can only see ICT2 machines ICT1-Teacher can not see any machines (including the teacher machine) from ICT2 ICT2-Teacher can not see any machines (including the teacher machine) from ICT1 Just, we don't want teachers from one class messing with computers from another class, and we especially don't want to give teacher1 a chance to nose at what teacher2 is up to. Any advice on this please, and instructions if possible?

And why not?

1lb diced beef @ Asda, £3.84: Cookies Detecting 1lb diced pork @ Asda, ~£2.81: Cookies Detecting The lamb is about 25p per lb more expensive though: Cookies Detecting Not sure how you've worked out the supermarkets can't compete? (Edit: links might not work, but they were all supposed to point to each product at Asda)

Also, I don't think the cost is directly proportional to the amount of people, for example if it costs 2 adults £100 per week, I don't think it's going to cost 4 adults £200 per week. I think is the case because a) there's more people to eat the leftovers, or the stuff that goes 'off' quickly so there's less wastage and b) a meal can seem to stretch further when it needs to - as an example we have home made meatballs a lot and find the amount we make fills us nicely. Yet we had a mate round unexpectantly, and still cooked the same amount and it went round all of us, filling us sufficiently.
-
We don't waste too much I believe. Everything gets eaten from the fridge, except the odd time when we are out the house a lot that week when we might have to dispose of a bit lettuce or some other veg. We tend to cook the right amount for what we want to eat, and in the unusual circumstances that we have cooked too much it is either kept for the next meal, or given to the dog when it can't really be kept.

Also, grab your free update to ActivInspire while you can. We did and we can install it all fine via MSI, including the drivers.

See, now our food bills include pretty much any consumable we use in the house. So how people can survive on £20 a week and also buy cleaning products, toiletries etc with that, unless of course those people weren't counting these things in their food bill costs.
-
See, we spend £300-400 a month on food, and I know this is normal as friends spend the same. My brother spends £75 a week and he eats nothing in my opinion! And we do try to save money on shopping, for example we tend to take a trip to pound stretched for cleaning products, tinned stuff, and crisps and biscuits. Then we go to Lidle/Aldi to get our meats and see what bargains they have, and then finish up at Asda to get anything we didn't pick up. Granted the food budget also includes alcohol, but this comes to about £30 or £40 per month. Could understand people's food coming to £200 a month, but £80 a month just sounds absurd to me.

£80 a month for food? What are you eating?!

We have ours set up similar to how Flakes does it - makes keeping an eye on things a doddle. Here's ours to try and help you out (Rough costs, as exact costs are on home PC - shown on monthly basis): Mortgage: £400 Council Tax: £110 Gas/Electricity: £41 Water: £30 Building and contents insurance: £20 Life insurance: £20 Food: £400 Pet Insurance: £7 Savings: £500 Shares ISA: £100 Car Savings: £100 Diesel: £100 Sky: £80 (BBand, TV, and Phone) Buffer: £100 All this comes out the 'bills' account, and anything left goes into the spending account. We have a buffer on the bills account just in case something changes unexpected, like if we get a few movies off Sky Box Office, or if the missus has used the phone a lot that month, or if I've done a few more miles and need a bit extra diesel. Then, at the end of the month that buffer gets transferred to the spends account and we start again.

Brother 64-bit and 32-bit printer drivers
Hightower replied to Hightower's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Will try again this morning, but I promise yesterday I downloaded the generic PCL ones for Windows XP 32-bit and Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit), and when it asked for the location of the 64-bit drivers it said those weren't for the same device and couldn't be installed. -
Absolutely can't stand foreign football, and only watch champions league/euro if it has an english team playing. I think it was maybe the 90's sides in Italy that put me off all those years ago, but it has certainly put me off for life. Don't watch anything outside of England really, and even turned the tele off every time Swansea had the ball on Monday night (just kidding obviously, but you get how much I detest foreign football)
