  1. An update in case it helps anyone who hasn't used this before. I contacted AVCO and they were very prompt and helpful. Liaised with Neil and what he told me was that basically on our end, as long as we have the server name and user/password correctly set in the settings, then it should work. The LEA does host the server, and he checked their logs to see what the issue was, but they don't have any settings that affect the client. So the changes to our network didn't have any bearing on AnyComms. Our issue turned out to be not our issue after all. The data we were waiting for seems that they were never sent (as they weren't in the server's logs). Also, we were able to send CTFs and receive FSM data so we're all good! So, as long as you select the correct shortcut (usually Pupil) it runs the correct script and it does it's job. HTH
  2. I thought so, just wanted to make sure. I have a copy of the anycomms folder but didn't re-install it. Just changed the computer's IP/subdomain and server/domain. Right... now let's see who I need to contact! Thanks again.
  3. Hi Matt, Thanks for the info. The office have Anycomms installed on their computers. Is there something that needs to be installed on the server as well to make it work or are you talking about the client?
  4. Hi Everyone, I'm having an issue with Anycomms. We're an academy using Intergis, but we're still using Anycomms to send/receive files to/from the LEA and other schools. I recently moved our admin users to the curriculum network to a new server and Anycomms doesn't receive anything (and possibly can't send either but haven't tried that). It connects ok and we get a message saying that there are no files but we know there must be something as we're waiting some data from another school. Anyway, I've never worked with Anycomms so I'm not sure what's going on. The old SIMS installation folder where we receive the files is still on the S: drive where it was and the users have permissions to read/write to it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Theo
  5. @dapaulio We have two DCs both at 2008r2. @TwistedHelixis @mrwoberts I enabled 'Configure Group Policy slow link detection' both for User and Computer but didn't help. When I did a gpupdate /force the Computer Settings showed the change (I changed the threshold) but User Settings still showed per my original post. The server was set up by Viglen with Classlink before I joined the school, but I'm not using that anymore, so I've made changes to their GPOs and/or disabled them.
  6. No. No WMI filtering.
  7. Hi everyone, I have setup a couple of Win10 machines to test them out and I'm having an issue where the user settings are not applying. The same settings are being applied and work fine on Win7 machines. A gpresult on the win7 machines shows the following: USER SETTINGS -------------- CN=IT Support,OU=Staff,DC=xxxxx,DC=xxxxx,DC=sch,DC=uk Last time Group Policy was applied: 24/05/2017 at 09:39:15 Group Policy was applied from: SERVER-DC01.xxxxx.xxxxx.sch.uk Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps Domain Name: xxxxx Domain Type: Windows 2000 but on the win10 machines: USER SETTINGS -------------- Last time Group Policy was applied: 23/05/2017 at 11:50:27 Group Policy was applied from: N/A Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps Domain Name: LOCAL-COMPUTER Domain Type: Windows 2008 or later The Computer Settings GPOs are applied correctly on both win7 and win10. The server is 2012r2. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Theo
  8. No worries. Thanks for the offer anyway and for testing cloudready on them too.
  9. If you could try cloudready on them to see if it at least installs, that'd be great. ~£50 for delivery is fine. Thanks for your help.
  10. Thanks very much for the offer. I am thinking about it. They might be useful to us if I can install Cloudready. Do you have any idea of how much it would be to send them to us?
  11. (I posted this here last week but just found this forum, which doesn't look very active, but who knows?! BTW, I left the post intact, but I have had a kind edugeeker (@FragglePete) offer me those!) Hi everyone, I'm in a cash-strapped school (surprise-surprise) with many-many ICT needs. I'm in the process or reviving some ancient laptops for classroom use with Cloudready (with the free Home version for now hoping to find the funds to get the education and management licenses). I also have a lot of teachers (read: all of them) with a little less ancient laptops which are extremely slow and most of them don't use them any more. Perhaps upgrading to SSDs might give them enough of a boost to start getting used again. If you have any 6-7 year old laptops that you're looking to recycle or if you have any SSDs lying around unused, please consider donating them to a poor school. It will help us immensely. Also, if you have any idea of companies that might be willing to donate to us Laptops/SSDs/APs please let me know. Thanks
  12. David, Thanks for the info. Good to hear from someone who has already implemented something similar to what I'm thinking of doing here. I thought I was going crazy with Flash, as I installed it, put the laptops in the classroom and a couple of days later (after the update) Flash was turned off! When we get to the point where we can think of getting tablets/ipads I'll definitely look into the Flips. Had a quick look and I'm thinking of getting one for my own kids tbh (aka for me really)! :-) I'll try the remote desktop as well. For some computers around the school that only occasionally need Windows access, sounds great. Thanks again, T
  13. Yes, as mentioned before I've already started deploying Cloudready on some old Celeron/1GB laptops I found stashed in teachers' cupboards that were not getting any use. My trials have been encouraging as they seem to work fine with Flash content as well. Thankfully, I'm of the... "google persuasion" myself and we do have G Suite which I set up when I joined the school about a year ago. (although Cloudready also have an Office 365 Education Edition) I am slowly making inroads into getting teachers to use the various Google apps and I believe ChromeOS/Cloudready computers will be great to use in our ICT suite and in the classrooms as we only have a very limited amount of iPads. Having said that there are many reasons why a Windows laptop is certainly useful which is why I'm trying to upgrade or get something a bit more up-to-date for the teachers to use.
  14. I hear what you're saying and I appreciate the advice. I will certainly make a point that this is not the solution, but just a stop-gap measure to improve our situation somewhat. But I have also worked for a school that had more money than it actually needed and we had lots of equipment regularly replaced, recycled, etc, so if there's something that is at least acceptable, I feel it's a good thing to keep it going for a bit longer.

  16. Hi Everyone, I'm having an issue with a 2012r2 server I've inherited. It started when I was trying to figure out a problem with VSS which didn't allow to take a backup. One of the suggestions was to unregister and re-register some dlls, however, now I can't re-register some of them. I get the following error messages - which are different for different DLLs. es.dll vssapi.dll The module "xxxxx.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "xxxxx.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. eventcls.dll Vssui.dll swprv.dll The module "xxxxx.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070715. For more information about this problem, search online using the error code as a search term. This obviously stops VSS from working. When I try to do a vssadmin resize for example I get an error in the Event Viewer: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine GetProviderMgmInterface. hr = 0x80042304, The volume shadow copy provider is not register in the system. I've done quite a bit of searching but haven't found anything that I can use. I've done chkdsk with no issues and a sfc /scannow returned that "sfc windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". I tried sfc /scannow in safe mode with the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Theo
  17. @biz I'm guessing you're a paying customer as my understanding is that free accounts don't get any support. If you do hear from them with a solution I'd be most interested to hear what they said!! In the meantime I'll push the apps out manually as needed!
  18. Yes, that's what I read and thought the same. I just started doubting myself as I can't find a train for this weird behaviour. I just can't figure out what the problem is.
  19. Hi all, I have around 180 supervised iPads enrolled to Meraki. I have around 100 free and paid apps that I'm managing via VPP. This set up was working just fine up until a few weeks ago when I noticed that some apps couldn't be pushed to some iPads and I was getting errors in the Activity Log saying that it can't find the license. I'm pretty sure though that when I had checked at the time, the licenses looked ok under VPP on Meraki. Maybe not! I finally got some time to look into it properly and now what I'm seeing is the following weird behaviour with ANY app - not just paid ones - with a scope other than All Users. When I turn off Auto grant/Auto revoke and use a User tag(s) with a scope of "With ANY of" I can see that it says at the top of a given app the correct number of Users in scope. When I turn on Auto grant the number of Users in scope changes to 0 so it doesn't grant the license to the chosen user group. I can go in and do it all manually, but with 100-something apps and 8 groups of iPads (1 per year group + staff) this is a major pain. Is this Cisco basically telling me that I need to pay to have the Auto grant feature? I had a look and as far as I could tell I shouldn't lose any features. Any help or ideas on what to look for would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  20. Thanks for the info. I'll give the LEA a call on Monday and if we're not anywhere near to resolving this I'll contact Nominet. Thanks again.
  21. Hi guys, I went with Mythic Beasts in the end. I can't actually give any feedback in terms of speed and reliability yet as I requested a nameserver change to the Lea over 6 weeks ago and I'm still waiting! However, in terms of tech/customer support, every time I contacted them I had a reply very quickly (within an hour or two), to the point and seemingly from people that know what they're talking about! Will update when I have some actual hosting data!
  22. I know this is an ancient thread. Just wanted to add my experience in case it helps anyone. I set up wpad via DNS and I'm deploying some iPads at the moment. If I set the wifi http proxy to auto and leave the url empty it works just fine. Picks up the settings and youtube for example is unblocked. (if I put a link to a pac/wpad file in the URL it doesn't work) The only problem is that I can't update that setting via Meraki, as I can't set it to auto without putting a url.
  23. @andyheth We got our iPads before October and through an Apple reseller. @Brimstone Right... sorry for being thick. I'm a bit unclear about a couple of things. I have done all the work with VPP and Meraki, I've invited (and accepted) all my users, etc and I've added a number of apps in Meraki and pushed them to iPads. One question is how do I turn off iTunes content ratings? I looked at the restrictions and there's a setting for which country's content ratings to use. Is it something in there? Also, (although I'm testing that out now) if I don't restore a 'Master iPad' and just add a number of apps via the Configurator, will they be linked to the AppleID I used to download them in the first place? Finally, is there a better way of adding email accounts and/or AppleIDs to the new iPads other than doing it manually? Thanks
  24. Thanks for the replies! Like I said in the OP, I've been using Hetzner for a number of years and I've been quite happy with them. The thing that holds me back is the cost in relation to the fact that the specs are a bit of an overkill for us. I think it might be a hard sell to the boss going from £150 to £1000 a year. I think something like the managed VPS that go daddy charges around £25 a month would be better suited. I will check out uk2.net (on the phone for now) Thanks again!
