I bought 60 Windows 7 Licences from a reseller and they gave me a licence key. Would this just be a MAK key? if it is, how do i obatin a KMS key?
-
Cool. I will check that i definatly have them. Finally, how to you get the clients to activate on builds? is there something you have to put in the unattend answer file or will the clients do it automatically? Thanks
-
Thanks Synack!! What if i we have a MAK instead of KMS for windows 7? Can this be converted?

Im just about to setup a KMS host on 2008R2 so my Windows 7 clients can activate and was wondering, when i am setup up the KMS host, do i enter the KMS Client setup key for windows 7 or or Server 2008R2? Surely as i want windows 7 clients to authentcate, this would be the key to enter? Thanks

Hi With windows 7, can i image it the same way as i can with XP? ie: build an image, sysprep it and capture the image using Ghost. Im really confused if they can be done this way or not. Im currently using Ghost solution suite V8 Thanks

Hi Im building a new brand new domain and i was wondering if it was hust a simple case of taking the SIMS server of the existing domain and putting it on the one? Its only a member server after all. Thanks

What do people prefer on hardware, Dell or HP? never used Dell so dont know what they are like in terms of the machines and the warranty support. Thanks

Hi I just thought id better check before i start to purchase licences and upgrade etc, Is Backup exec 12.5 compatable with 2008 R2 for both the remote agent and to install the Backup exec media server? I couldn't find a post on here that gives a definate answer. Thanks Guys1

upgrade to vsphere from esx 3.5
techie08 replied to ful56_uk's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Excellent! Did you just upgarde your Virtual Centre or do a clean install? im toying with the idea of building a new 2008 r2 VM for vCentre. Also did you simply upgrade your hosts or do a fresh install (wipe and load of esx/esxi?) Thanks -
Is anyone here using the new Securus NG or Impero V3?? I have now made the decision to ditch Policy Central as its nothing but a pain Would Impero V3 run in a Virtual environment??? Thanks

i have unchecked the box for Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates, now macs dont register in DNS at all so this doesn't really make things any better
-
I will do the same for mine then and see how it goes. Mine has the reverse lookup issue for windows clients as well as mac clients. Really frustrating!!
-
In your DNS have you got it set to secure updates or Unsecure and Secure? Also in my DHCP the tick box is checked for Dynamically update DNS A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates. Is yours unchecked? Thanks
-
How did you get on with this? I have the same reverse lookup zone problem in DNS of our 2 server 2003 DCs. We use macs and its causing us a few issues. Thanks

upgrade to vsphere from esx 3.5
techie08 replied to ful56_uk's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Is it just as easy to upgrade as it is to install? is it just a case if installing the new verison on each esx box then upgrading virtual centre? What new benefits would VSphere give ove esx 3.5 Thanks -
Are you happy backing up the dc as a virtual machine?? would you run into problems if you need to restore it?
-
Just out of interest, how do you back these up? is the file level or backup the complete VM? Do you host the backup drive on the actual physical server?
-
So your 2003 dc is your PDC?
-
So you are are going to build a new 2008r2 DC on a new server, and put the hyper-v role on that?
-
Im just curious to know what sort of server set people run in a primary school with roughly 60 PCs? ie do you run just a server for the Domain controller + file and print and one member server for SIMS or run two domain controllers? or just one server and thats it! I was looking at using ESXi and going completely virtual but i am now thinking thats going to be overkill and it adds that extra layer of complexity Thanks
-
Thats good to hear. The plan was to reduce the school from two physical servers (DC and SIMS) to one. Making that a brand new 2008R2 Domain controller and then adding the hyper-v role and putting the sims server as a virtual machine. Then this server will have a tape drive (instead one on each physical server at the moment) thus reducing hardware costs even more and reducing costs when purchasing backup exec. Obviously the downside is i would be putting all the eggs in one basket!!!!
-
Not sure if this has been covered, but is anyone running the Hyper-V role on a 2008r2 domain controller? I was thinking of doing this but someone said it isn't supported by microsoft. I thought for a primary school, this would be ideal!!
-
Did you resolve this??? i basically want to build a brand new domain on a new server and migrate sophos across. The new server will obviously have a new name, IP and new domain name. The school only has two servers, A domain controller and SIMS member server. Would i follow your instructions? Thanks
