Does this mean I won't be able to manage my beautiful Netgear switches anymore and I'll be forced to make the heartbreaking move to HP? (Hear my irony. HEAR IT!!)

When I run a test on Microsoft Test Connectivity I get given the following error. I am currently having a few teething issues with Exchange / Outlook, so I assume this is related. Any ideas on a fix? I'm not overly confident in Exchange, so as much help as you can give would be great!

Excuse my ignorance... What's that? EDIT: Just had a Google. Nope, just a normal distribution group.

I've been presented with a problem today whereby when looking into a global address list from a client, it shows as being empty! Nor can it be expanded. But it definitely works, because there are members of that group. Also, sending to that group goes to the correct recipient. Any ideas why it wouldn't be showing correctly on the clients? It's not just one machine either, seems like everybody's! As shown here:

Currently I just use a spreadsheet with as much information as I can. Then just a simple Brother P-Touch for the asset tags. Looking into an asset management system myself as I imagine it will help to keep track of things. Especially with the iPhone scanning capabilities.

Strangely, when I ping from my machine to the core I still don't get perfect responses though... Making me think there's more!

Updates on this, I have found one loop. Not entirely convinced it was the root of the problems though, as things still aren't perfect. The loop was in a mini-hub, so I'm sure that didn't help at all...

Replaced another switch last night, seems to be helping me to fault find at least. Take a look at this... :'(

@twin--turbo thanks for your comments. The support company I've been working with also recommended setting the ports with hubs to 100-auto. I've tried, but thing still aren't perfect. If I could just burn them all I would, but unfortunately even computer classrooms are networked with them :-|

I suppose so! As I said, things still aren't perfect. But they're a lot quicker. What isn't good, is there are lots of little mini hub/switches dotted around the network (everywhere). Which really won't be helping matters. That, and the managed switches that are in use are primarily Netgear FSM726 or equivalents.

Morning. I ended up having a company remotely take a look (the company who provided the new switch). Simply upgrading the firmware on it seems to have massively helped the issue. Ping responses are still not perfect, but they're not going above 10 (when plugged directly into the core switch). Anyone any ideas why this may have been?

UPDATE - found the PC, IP has been moved for an IP Camera. Took the IP camera off the network, was still flooding even though it wasn't plugged in??? See below, screenshot of the conversations view (top few anyway) 16.3 is the smoothwall box

Okay. Talk to me guys! I'm in the server room now unplugging things. I've got my laptop (this one) plugged DIRECTLY into the core switch. I'm getting ping responses of 1, <1 and then anything from 30-130. Primarily it's <1 and 1. Unplugging things in turn isn't having an effect. Wireshark: Conversations view, IPv4, sort by packets: Lots coming from an IP address that resolves to a computer which isn't even part of the network anymore (old isolation machine) Second top is from the data server. Fire away. Because I have no​ idea

Still no idea what's going on here. Feels like a loop, as I've had a similar experience in my previous workplace with the same symptoms. I've tried analysing with WireShark, but everything looks normal? Nothing sending huge bytes etc. (not that I'm overly familiar with WireShark). Switches all have loop protection (those that are manageable) turned on, so it shouldn't be happening... It's across the entire site, but not everyone is affected.

Just downgraded to 5003. Impero support were very helpful.

Right. I've had a wander around, can't see any obvious loops (couldn't check everywhere) and all the switches seem to be fine, given a few a restart. It's intermittent with staff, and ping responses from the core switch are sky high on those machines with problems. I'll be honest, I have no idea how to use wireshark, so I don't know how to use that to determine anything. I go directly into the core switch (via a PP) and my ping responses are fairly quick. The odd flicker up to 30ms but nothing more.

I was also thinking, I could just go up to Win10? But not sure if I should use the 'Education' version?

Hm, can see what you mean I suppose! At least if I can get it all tidy, I might be able to get the bloody door on the main server rack...!

Are they just brush panels with nothing behind? I'm going to get some cable tidy units I think, but I'm not sure if I should get brush units or the cable tray/box type units? Recommendations?

Sounds good, could anyone point me in the direction of the templates and/or where they go? We definitely are in a similar situation @dry! Yes, @dhicks. I haven't looked into it myself properly, but my predecessor was using CloneZilla to do it; IIRC

Okay, Impero seemed to fix the problem, and now it hasn't. Still slow :-( I'm concerned that either A) Impero is still the issue, we upgraded rather than downgraded B) There's a loop. But finding one could prove to be rather challenging...

No, fortunately no VLANs at the minute @Steve21. Also, there were no trunks either :-) Thanks @markwilfan - I'm in talks with Impero atm. If rolling back doesn't fix it, I'll look into this too :-)

Hm, bit sceptical about importing templates. The DC is already in a bit of a state, I really don't want to break it further The rest of the network is Win7 yes (aside from me on Win10 haha)

Long story @Steve21 Old switch was a netgear switch New switch is the HP2530-48G. I'd love to have a 'real' core switch, but for money reasons we can't at the minute. So to try and slowly get the network to gigabit speeds, I'm putting these HP's in place ASAP. Eventually, I'll swap the 2530-48 'acting as' core switch, to a real HP core switch with the fibre modules etc. (I hope) No VLANs. Surprisingly, I'm not actually doing a lot of what I'm posting just yet. Just building up a plan/ideas of how long things will take and cost. The help from these threads means I can put things together to present a bit easier :-)
