Not sure of the best location for this one - but thought here may be best... I've been sent a link for some very small form factor PCs that are also apparently also very Eco-Friendly... Never heard of the company before and with my previous experience of similar sized PCs (I inherited some to support from an unknown manufacturer at a new site when I moved into my current job and they are dire) Soooo, has anybody have any experience with VeryPC? BroadLeaf BL32-B-E53 « GreenPC « Business « VeryPC Good? Bad? Indifferent? What is their support like? Build quality? Basically I'm just lookiing for feedback from anyone that has experience of them. Ta in advance.

What OS / Service pack are you running on the lappys? I'm encountering a problem on some desktops (XPSP3) where the sound devices disappear and reappear after a reboot.

Literally - go and rent one from a fancy dress shop. It'd certainly make for a night to remember.

It's yet again the media looking for a scapegoat - that scapegoat being the gamer (again). I've now taken to occasionally wearing t-shirts that proclaim 'video games made me do it' There seems to be a crusade from some that think we should never play them as we're all obviuosly being trained to be k!ller$. Actually - to look at the list there... There's only really one genre! Classic one-sidedness from the media again, bravo. I'll stop there as if I carry on any further I'll end up getting this moved behind the red door!

Right - I'm actually in the position that you are proposing to create... I spend one day at each site, and have issues logged on our helpdesk. This will form stronger links with the primaries (which are probably going to be feeder schools to a degree), okay this won't actually be why you're doing this but it will come as a by-product. In my case - the primaries pay into a 'pot' that is topped up by the secondary to formulate my wages. It'll depend on how you and the primaries in question want to do things as to if your secondary will end up paying a little / gaining a little or breaking even. Plus - it'll give you the chance to ensure the primaries' networks are set up similar to your own, actually making transition from one school to the other for students easier. As for amount of work? It depends on the current state of said IT provision in the schools, what plans they have and so forth? (There has been a thread about this stating that it certainly isn't easier - just different, but I'll stay away from that topic to avoid derailment!). As a personal note I also find that if you employ someone to support the primaries then there may be issues if they are ill/on holiday - as you'll need to cover for them (as with limited time at each site means if one visit is missed, issues will continue to build up and workload may well be doubled!) I don't know if my tea fuelled ramblings here will help but I hope it'll give you a further insight. As has already been said above - I'll also attempt to answer any specific questions about the role if you have any...

Ah - I was just wondering if there was a hidden one pointing at a denied .exe, .fls, .swf or something. Hows your AV? Sounds like something may have propogated across. Are the affected users all in one specific group in Active Directory?

Theres not an autorun somewhere in the top level of the share is there? Calling something you've denied users to do?

Yup - I fully updated one machine manually as I thought this may be causing the issue, but alas - still seeing the issue. I'll attack one of the machines with adware/malware removal software next time I'm in to see if anything of that nature is doing it... I'm pretty sure it's not a virus as AVG is happily updating and scanning (and catches the occasional gifts people like to bring in on USB flash drives!) I've considered an SP2 image test but this issue was seen by a couple of users before the re-image (they were using SP2 then), but the issue was nowhere near as bad as it is now.

Maybe this is some form of giant secret government research being performed nationwide - think Pavlov's dog on a bigger scale???
