Sorry for this being slightly out of context in the way you meant it but... Wikipedia has the problem that anyone can edit it (okay - anyone with a pc, net connection and enough knowledge to do so) and while the vast majorityof it is correct, some pages are right out there. Go look up William Shakespeare for example. (There was alot wrong with it last time I looked, but that was aaaages ago) Okay - I hear the counterarguement that anyone with the skills can write a book (which sadly seems to be a dying art these days), but its alot harder to actually get it out there to people whereas someone's "facts" about cheese coming from the moon can be up there in a couple of clicks! Plus, theres nothing like sitting there with a good book - heres hoping the library never dies.

While I have no problems with a film having a plot - hell, they all need one and some of the "Spechul efekt eggstravarganzars (sic!)" have too little (i.e. non existant!). This tries too hard, I expected massive battles between the humans and the machines - lots of blowing up. All we get is some arty farty nonsense about a new type of terminator that could spell DISASTAR (sic!). I haven't stated what the new termie type is/does as not to spoil it for anyone who actually wants to watch it.

I've seen it and feel sullied just by having watched it - seriously, give it a wiiiiide berth. Failing that, make your own mind up but don't say I didn't warn you...

Yes, but you can use the latest versions due to software assurance. And if you want to stop you can buy out of it by buying the licenses.

I inherited all four and they were 'self built'. Two are already using the EMBC learning platform and another is soon to be training on it. One however - was only a peer-to-peer network when I took it on. Now they have a domain built from the ground up by yours truely. Another I've pretty much managed to rebuild underneath itself. The other two are still in a bit of a mess as they had several years of not being supported properly.

Nah - thats okay. I'm pretty thick skinned. At the moment it's kinda halfway between a pipedream and a project, I just thought it'd be a good idea to ask about it on here as there is surely someone that's already moved over - and failing that there'd be advice. I'm still going to set a box up to see how plausable this all is, so await the blog people as it'll be better to put results up in that format.

Crikey - I seem to have kicked off a bit of a debate! I think the overall benefits in general outweigh the flaws and this thread was just to ask what everyone else thought really. I'm certainly not going to just upgrade straight away and be done with it. As something like this could be quite a major change then I'll need to check it properly. I've got a spare box I can set up - so I'll do that and throw software at it (not literally mind!) to see what does/doesn't work. I'll be posting a list so we all know for the future.

I was just thinking that if I'm going to be one of the first to move I'll probably blog it right here on edugeek - that way everyone else can see any issues/responses/bonuses.

Yeah - this is one of the three 'big' issues, along with there is an amount of software that will just not work and the cost. Got the cost covered, now just need to do some testing to find out what software'll be nuked. As for the staff - the ones using Vista at home I can just leave to their own devices (mostly!). The main problem'll be the ones who are still scared of the "Magic thinking box!"

Yup - they're going the schools agreement route for licensing and they've got got enough in the pot to fund it. As for hardware (aside from the odd :censored:elonex:censored: everything is easily capable of running 7. May need to buy the odd stick of RAM for odd laptops but aside from that they're ready.

The main site I'm employed by made the move to Windows 7 pretty much off the bat (3rd in the country! Woohoo!), but as the feeders - whom I support are still playing with XP I've decided that it may be a good time to move to 7 for security, stability and other schtuff beginning with s... So - Have any other 'geekers that support primaries made the move? Just curious to find out really? Or am I going to be the test subject as one of my sites has practically jumped on the idea!
