everycloud filtering is superb and ... sits in the cloud, very easy to set up, and has stopped 99.9% of our spam without too much hands-on from me, so thumbs up!

I had a case for isolating a particular VLAN which was bringing the whole network down. If I'd have had a flat network, we would have been down for days until I found the culprit, which I never did. The closest I came to was narrowing it down to a few ports, but the actual device was never found. I would get a BT leased line personally and have all the private addressed VLANs you like. Never had an outage of internet in 16 months now. ps. I work in a College and not for BT I'm surprised the LGFL don't bombard you with IP addresses if you have a legitimate cause. Never had an issue with the SWGFL when i used them. all the best

We've just started using the Room Booking system after using MRBS with Moodle and it is a different class in comparison in my experience. I didnt have the time or the skills necessary to develop MRBS enough to make it an worthwhile easy friendly system although we used it for 3 years plus! Every new school year was a hassle with room bookings for me until now! This room booking system is very user friendly and the staff love it. There are a few limitations but they are mainly due to the way we run things in this school and none of these limitations were insurmountable. I have recently enabled LDAP so users can log in with their network credentials and it's running superbly well. Wish I had done this ages ago. The SIMS integration with timetables, holidays etc is superb and I smile every day now The various security permissions for each group, dept or per user is also really useful and the notifcations of new bookings, cancellations etc are appreciated by all users of the system! The support is second to none, prompt and friendly. Well worth the money in my opinion and have also bought into Parent Evening system as a result. Good job roombookingsystem and would recommend to anyone who has to maintain a room booking system!

Hi, proxy server needed? I don't know how a CC3 network works but you should be able to make your machine a static IP address on the same subnet as your internal router interface and make the router interface your default gateway and set a proxy setting if it's an upstream proxy. Don't know how you've got your network set up so quite hard to say. Any more details on how you get out your network? cheers

I don't know how you can without some sort of router to achieve this. Well, i say router, you need to differentiate the 2 subnets and be able to route the requests so what you use is up to you, layer3 switch for example. The interfaces on the router will be int1 -192.168.1.254 and int2 will be 192.168.2.254 with a mask of 255.255.255.0 You will need to specify a ip helper address which will be your DHCP server. Scope 1 will issue 192.168.1 addresses and scope 2 will issue 192.168.2 addresses. Scope options will need to have the router specified as 192.168.1.254 on the Scope1 and 192.168.2.254 This will be the default gateway for the clients and ensures they come in on that interface say to speak. You client PC's will broadcast for an IP address and it will be passed to the router who passes it to the DHCP server (that's because you've set the IP Helper address on that interface!) who know's what subnet the request came from and issues the relevant scope address. Does this help?

If one of your servers goes down, why not start DHCP on another server? Far faster acknowledgement times etc and DHCP can be setup again in 5 minutes. The only problem will be reservations as they will need inputiing again, but from my experience, you can't restore DHCp anyway, only move it which pre-empting a crash.

Hi, I'd get a HPDL380G5 server. Best selling server world wide and for a good reason! Not a mammoth beast, but a superb server that supports twin quads, up to 64gb RAM, 8 x 2.5" HDD bays. I paid abou £5k for mine, but I have 5460 CPU, 32gb RAM and 8 x 146gb 10k rpm SAS drives, dual controllers for RAID 1 and RAID 10. You could underspec this for your tests and fannying around with the knowledge that you can utilise this server with a bit more cash thrown at it when required. If you are goin to virtualize, you will be spending some serious bucks on a couple of servers anyway. I have been playing with ESXi for a couple of weeks and although costly when you want to virtualise properly, well worth the money. Hyper-v just doesn't cut it quite yet, I'm sure it will given the same amount of development time as VMware have had, but from what I have read, the costs of VMware and hyper-v are fairly similar when all the features are included. Need to look at a SAN if implementing seriously and failover and resilience are to be included. Hope that helps Oh, and to your question I have installed w2k8 x64 but done nothing with it except play with terminal services, but seems fine...though not much of a test!

Ok, I'll rephrase that... in my opinion, their suppoort is fantastic and they have always come up trumps with the issues I've had.

I have no qualms that they seem to work better with Linux, but I specifically need windows either XP or Vista with some future proofing otherwise we could be stuck with very limited use netbooks. I know they're limited use already, but need to future proof as best as I can and get the most usage possible really. Any more help appreciated

Hi all, Having read a good few threads and reviews etc on netbooks, I am still confused as to whether these devices are suitable for my network. It seems to be trade-offs of quite crucial elements depending on vendor. ie. battery life, Atom CPU, limited to 1gb RAM, intermittent wireless issues. Settling for any of those elements makes it a short term investment for me. My question is: Does anyone use these successfully in lessons for students using wireless, XP/Vista for office 2003/2007, other apps (not Adobe CS3 etc or heavy resource/processing intensive apps)? I have been looking at the Dell mini 9, Acer Aspire One, Eeepc 901 and Advent 4211/12/13 but looking at forums, they all seem to have as mentioned problems or tradeoffs. Any help would be appreciated

Hi, Where is your router then? Is the ISa server acting as a router? I assume you have the clients proxy server settings in IE set to your ISA server and the users cannot change the proxy settings? If not I would do that firstly. If you could elaborate a bit more on your setup it would be useful to sugest a solution. Cheers

Are any other policy settings working within that OU? I'd try adding some kind of policy to the OU and see that it is being taken.

Good point srochford! Maybe a stupid question re your homepage, but are you forcing the update? ie gpudate etc? IS it a specific OU that is not updating or are others within the same OU and GPO working ok?

Hi, Have you tried bypassing all that ContentCache stuff? Is Contentcache just a fancy ISA box? Haven't been able to read all the postings, but as much as I can, but I would bypass everything that I can, then build from that as your settings specified don't seem a problem. EXCEPT: I wouldn't have the proxy/contentcace as my default gateway as any traffic that the network/routers/pc's etc can't route/resolve will go to the default gateway hence why you may be getting timed-out? May be getting flooded with unecessary requests. Just a thought Good luck!

The profile is about 10mb!!!! and 9mb is cubase related. Admittedly one of my technicians has installed it, so I don't know the full ins and outs but I need to get tis profile size reduced. I think that when setting things up, when prompted to write to the profile, he's opened up the profiles to allow this. I'm sure there's templates and startup templates for cubase to give a predefined project setups. Appreciate all the help and it has given me hope and somewhere to start. many thanks

Pallen, Cubase isn't designed for network use and it insists that it writes loads of data to the profile unfortunately. I've tried not to, trust me! Thanks anyway. Quackers.... good skills!!! Any chance of a cheeky look at your script then

I appreciate that, but that moves away from a single user profile and I would have to create 1000 music accounts and manage those passwords and profile etc. Thanks anyway. I just wondered if this was technically possible as it's causing me grief!!

Hello all. We use cubase for music lessons and have incorporated it's profile requirements into the student mandatory profile. Trouble is it's massive and students not needing to use the music PC's have to wait to download this massive profile when logging in. Is there a way to state that if using a music PC, load this profile else load normal profile. By the way, my scripting is terrible, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Graeme

Hi, have you tried deleting the users *.oab files? Haven't time to read all the thread but I have had issues with cached mode clients and the address book. go to C:\Documents and Settings\users_username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and delete all the .oab files. I personally make a backup folder and put them in there. This may not solve your problem but will rule it out of the equation! Good luck
