    Kirklees BSF

Well, i spoke with the kirklees BSF team last week and got some information from them. Basically the ICT meetings are indeed already happening, a rep from the high school i work with has been attending these meetings for a while. What ive found out so far is basically that kirklees will be going with an MSP for the secondaries, thats a definite, but primary schools probably wont be getting an MSP (yay! - i work in primaries ) Also for the next year they will be putting together a list of what schools need, require etc and then the contract will be offered out november 2009 to the european businesses or whatever. I sincerely hope we dont get RM'd, not that it seems right now that itll affect me but id prefer dell or even microsoft
  2. xp in all. i support 7 schools and actually gave 4 vista laptops a try for a period of 2 months. sufficed to say, they are now all running xp

    Kirklees BSF

Hello all! BSF has finally been announced in the kirklees north area and with all this crap going on im trying to get some research and such into whats going to happen to me and other technicians i know in kirk north. All this business with TUPE and whatever, does anyone know who has won the contract for kirklees? ive looked into the other threat that reports on the LA's that have signed contracts etc but i dont see Kirklees in there. Do any fellow kirklees employees have more info than me, does anyone else know? Also has anyone in kirklees been approached for TUPE yet? Im quite worried about my job security as ive been told there is no job in two years for me but thats just speculation, or at least im hoping its speculation. Anyone got some nice juicy info? Blue

never used a promethean board. Tbh im leaning more towards a smb, after reading reviews etc and knowing what smartboards are like i dont think the ebeam can compare. ah well, thanks all

well the reason im researching this is that we're having a new temporary classroom and want to look into alternatives to smartboards. We have enough cash for the SMB so my main question is, if you HAD the money for a smartboard, would you buy the smartboard or save the cash and buy an Ebeam instead?
  10. Dont know if this is relevant but the computers are connecting to the network via wireless cards. The machines are brand new. Tbh im thinking about formatting them again and working on them one by one, i dont understand why this problem has happened.

Hrmm, ok hows about this: If you had to choose between an IWB or an Ebeam, what would you choose?
  12. DHCP is not run on the server it is run by the kirklees router we have in school, but yes, it is functioning properly as this is localised to these 3 machines. Checked DNS and the IPs resolve both forward and back with the correct IP's that show on the clients. i've never seen this
  13. Also getting this error under NetBT:
  14. Hi All I have recently purchased 4 machines for our Y1 and Y2 classes to play about on. I formatted them and placed the schools volume license of xp onto them and deployed them out to the area where they were being used. The server has all the MSI's set up so it was as simple as setting them up, logging them in, putting them on the domain and leaving them to install the software. Now, for some reason, 3 out of 4 machines havent even bothered applying the computer gpo's, including the software installs, but the user gpo's are applying fine, start menu is restricted, desktop changed etc, folder redirections working fine. so ive hunted around on the internet to try and find a solution and nothing i do seems to fit this problem. The first thing i checked was the gpo results wizard, which comes up with I looked around on the net and was told to try the rsop.msc command on the affect pc, i went down to it, and ran the command, there is a big red X on the computer policy settings but user policy settings doesnt have an x on it. when i check the error report it also says the same as above. Now i have looked into the local machines event viewer and for some reason it is saying it cannot contact the DC, i have pinged by name and ip and the server resolves correctly to the right IP's I have removed them from the domain, dns, and readded them several times and no joy. Anyone got the slightest?

Hello EduGeekers. Have been asked to take a look at this ebeam thingermer, does anyone else have this installed at their schools? If so with hindsight would you have gone for an IWB or are you happp ith this system? I take it that it just fixes to the wall etc, the projector does its business and you use the pen or whatever like an IWB? Any and all infomration about this would be superb as im having to look at this and see if it is a valid alternative to a smartboard
  16. Thanks Sy, after much messing about and fiddling with nlite, i got it working. Am replying to you now from the laptop, thankfully got all the drivers working. Have you ever heard of acer laptops overheating when you revert them back to xp from vista due to the ePower sofware not working correctly? read it while searching the internet with this problem.
  17. Crash and burn. I used nlite, selected the driver from the floppy drive, selected the relevant chipset etc, finished nlite, burnt the cd, put the cd into the laptop and... "setyup cannot find any hard disks in this machine" blah blah nearly ready to cry now.
  18. Ok im having a bash with this nlite stuff. lets see how this goes. So with this nlite software i can just customize the xp cd to have the drivers in already and then just run the xp cd like i normally would just without the FDD?
  19. you're on the right lines but i wouldnt need to do any sys prepping etc if i did it this way would i: Lets say that laptop 1 is the xp one, and laptop 2 is the formatted non working vista one. I would take laptop 1, run the image over the network using bartpe to laptop 2 and once the process was done this would mean both laptops are exactly the same, thus the problem with breaching of licenses. However, since laptop 2 would now have the drivers to run xp and detect the sata hard drive, i should be able to format it and install our own version of xp correct?
  20. The local high school i work near and with has a HP tape loader, you stick a big ass tape in (i think they are 200gb uncomp and 400 comp'd) and then magic happens and all the servers are backed up. that school runs 7 severs with a total of 7TB storage but obv that isnt all used. Id look into "HP Tape Loader" and see what you find
  21. I know the closing date isnt for another week but is this position still open to applications?
  22. i had a play with virtual server 2005 from microsoft and that had a nifty web interface where you could create virtual networks and such never did get around to doing much w ith it but it was quite a fun tool.
  23. I have found an identical 5720 at another of my schools that has xp on it. question: If i do an image across the network from this laptop to the other, would the image take OK on the other and also if i formatted the other after it receives the image, will the disk work since itll have the drivers for the chipset.
  24. i dont think the hdd is the problem tho, its windows xp setup that is asking for a intel matrix storage manager disc which is in the floppy drive but wont recognize it. are you talking about setting the disc to run in ide mode then using this killdisc and then trying the setup again?
  25. Killdisk? this is new to me, how does one use that?
