Right... since ive had oh so much help on this ive tried working on it a bit more. Yesterday i had done a gut transplant on two machines. one of the HDD's was up to date but the other was not. So i think simple job, sysprep, image, drop image. First two steps went fine. When i started to drop the image i get a WDS client error saying there is no compatible network card within the windows pe image. So i research on how to update drivers into a WIM image and finally start working on it. I locate the boot.wim file (under boot\images) and mount it, inject the driver, and commit the changes. When i boot the computer again it gives me the same crap about not having the right driver.. yet i checked on the other machine and it IS the right driver. So my next question is WHICH image should i edit to inject drivers to so that WDS will pick up the hard drive and networking?

Not from what i can remember. The only settings i could change would be the sata mode from ahci to ide but would that make any difference? Theres also the extra work of repairing the os if i do change it as well.

have you tried running the remsav bat file on the 2 laptops and tried installing after that? I use remsav often and it seems to clear up most problems

Bumping. No one has seen this? Someone must use WDS enough to have seen this/resolved it?
-
Yea thats what i did which is why we came to the conclusion about WDS not being able to work with the drive. Machine 1 (eee pc 1001ha): N270, seagate sata hdd Machine 2 (eee pc 1001p): n450, Western Digital hdd So clearly something within WDS cant see the hard drive or work with it. which is why my question is, is there a way to put drivers in so that WDS can see the hard drive and image it?
-
Well after some discussion with another technician elsewhere we have come to an idea that WDS doesnt have the drivers to boot the hard drive. Is there any way to put drivers into WDS so they can read from the disks? Its odd because WDS detects the drive was sysprepped but would not image it. Id REALLY like it if someone would reply ;P

Hi Guys Anyone got a clue?
-
Hi Guys I have WDS installed on server 2003 and im having an issue with WDS. Its all setup, tested and functioning correctly however: I am trying to image some new netbooks the school purchased just before the holls. These are Eee PC 1001P's. They are the second batch of netbooks we have purchased in the last year. The first set were 1001HA's and imaged and deployed fine via WDS however the second set, whenever i try to capture the image after sysprep WDS reports "the parameter is incorrect" after about 5 seconds after i click next to begin the capture. Anyone have any clue why this error is coming up? THanks

Hi Guys Ive got a laptop that has corrupted its registry. Tried the usual way of restoring the registry by using the recovery console but this was not successful for some reason (whenever i try to copy c:\windows\repair\system it says the file cannot be found however there is a system.bak file located within that dir). Anyway, i decided id try to do an automated windows repair, bypassed the recovery console, pressed f8 and pressed R. Nothing happened, when i looked again, there is NO option to perform a automated repair. Can anyone give me advice on what to do from here?

Yea sounds like a plan. All Ip's get changed to the LA's scheme anyway just within our static reservation pool that we have assigned

Aha, i totally forgot about mac filtering. So all i'd need to do is get all the macs in the school that need the wireless network, add them to allow on the wireless points and take off encryption? I wish i had thought of that before, would have saved a lot of hassle! Security wise is there any way of getting around the MAC filtering? brute force

Hi Danny. Just about a half hour before I was leaving I had the same thoughts as you as I didn't have these problems till I put the waps onto wpa psk and wpa psk2. I lowered the points to ONLY wpa psk an they are now all functioning with the profile applying 100% of the time but some issues with the desktop not loading properly (everything else loads just not the desktop and it reports the active desktop HTML file is missing). That will do for now but I obviously need to lock that down at some point. Regarding the encryption, would it be possible to run the wireless without any and secure the network some other way or will I have to stick with the encryption as it is?

Can anyone offer any advice? Im toying with the wireless network settings in GP but im afraid i dont have much experience with this. Can anyone point me in the right direction for configuring this? Thanks

Hi Guys. A few months ago we purchased 6 netbooks for use in class as a tester, with an aim to buy more if they worked well in class. Anyway, each year group has its own self contained area and had 1 wireless point to serve 3 - 4 classrooms. While there were only 6 netbooks in school i assumed this wouldnt be a problem (ive been running 15 netbooks on 3 points at another school with no problems whatsoever). Anyway since the netbooks came in we've had real issues with the netbooks connecting to the network, downloading the profile, applying the profile and such. At the moment the netbooks succeeed to connect and apply the correct profile around 20% of the time which is obviously a serious issue. Initially i assumed this was the wireless points that were the issue. These have now been replaced with Netgear WPN802T which are wireless N. These are the same wireless points at the other school i use which is why i assumed theyd be much better. Anyway, i have increased the wireless points in each year group to 2 of the above points while the number of netbooks has remained the same. Our head now wants to look at purchasing more but obviously i need to get these issues fixed before we make a move towards buying more netbooks. No matter what i do the netbooks sometimes dont bother connecting, or if they do connect they dont bother to download the correct profile. The profile works fine and ive created 4 seperate profiles and tested with each of them and they all work. Something odd ive noticed is that if you login as an admin before a childs account then once you log out and then in as a child, the profile will work 100% of the time. I started another thread elsewhere looking for a wireless logon script to get the netbooks to connect to the network before logging in and such to ensure 100% application of the profile and such however there was a registry fix i was told to apply but this seems not to be working. Can anyone offer any help? im not clued up on wireless at all frankly and these problems are giving me real headaches. Thanks in advance. Im going to monitor this thread all day so any help or advice will be actioned immediately. P.s. im wondering if there are problems with the networking in school. I have moved our servers and what wireless points i know (some network points havent been labelled) to the top level switch so that all communication and internet is on that one switch to cut down cross switch load but i dont think this has helped in the slightest.

Building Schools for the Future plans to be scrapped
Bluetooth replied to victory2009's topic in BSF
All i can say is YIPEE! As part of BSF i was going to be removed from my post a local high school where i help out. This was due to being primarily a primary schools tech and only working at the high school 4 hours a week and i was flatly told last year that i would "just be removed" no redundency or severence or anything which frnakly upset me quite a bit considering the amount of time ive worked at that school in particular. Now that BSF has gone my job is secure and i can continue working at the school with a great team that isnt going to be messed with or made to watch a clock to fine some stupid company. Plus the buildings thing, well wtf does it really do? It improves the LOOK of the school, that does not directly improve the state of teaching nor the results of the kids. Thank god BSF is gone, no more worries for me =-) -
Hi guys One of my teachers has asked if it would be possible to borrow our office 2003 pro volume license to install at home as they have a lot of reports and such to write. Is this possible because they are using it for home or should it stay well and truely within school grounds? Thanks all

Had 8 WPN802T's delivered last week, planning on 2 per year group and will be doing the work later this week. I still find it weird how they were only handing down 40k/sec to the laptops, think i should take a look at the comms cab and see if there are some issues there maybe

Yea, its cool got it sorted, netstumbler doesnt like 7 yet from what i can see, compatibility didnt work either, i pulled out one of the netbooks and stuck it on there. Not really that clued up on wireless terminology but i went into a couple of rooms, heres what i found: The current wireless points (1 per unit) were all on channel 6. Lots of unknown Ap's from outside the school, bt homehubs and talktalk hubs etc all on channel 1. The waps in the units ranged from -21 average signal to -85 in the opposite end of the unit. One thing i did notice, when i was about 10 meters away from one of the points, i was only getting around 40k/sec download speeds, think i should run some tests to see how fast the waps are running?
-
Hi guys, apologies for bringing an old thread back up. I am having some issues with the wireless points again, we are looking at getting some wg602 netgear points so they will hopefully resolve the issues. Tried downloading the net stumbler thing but when i go into one of the units where the wap is, netstumbler says there are no ap's available. When i get the new waps im going to use alternate channels like you guys mentioned earlier in the thread

Another quick question for you guys too. I have captured an image and have it stored in WDS, my question is, how can i edit the image and put other drivers into it for deployment to machines that are different? Thanks
-
Hey Guys Sorry to dig this one up again but im finally finding a few hours to play with this. I got a install.wim and boot.wim from a win7 pro disc from the local high school. Regarding sysprep, can i use it on machines that are already configured on the domain with av and stuff? will it interfere with any settings etc? just making the capture image as you mentioned now and im going to try and run sysprep on a machine then capture it.

Hi Having some odd problems with folder redirection on my server. I created a staff profile using a current staff member but gave them domain admin and admin permissions while i created the profile. Copied the profile to the server and made it mandatory applied the profile to staff and all is well apart from the following weirdness: Gpo is set for my docs to be redirected to users home drive (sepcified as H: from AD) yet for some reason all other staff members are pointing to the my docs folder that i created the profile with, no amount of fiddling or tweaking resets the staff to their home folders (even though the drive is mapped in my comp) Any help much appreciated bit confused here

Hi guys. I have done a search for PCE here and found some interesting threads, however some are quite old and some are at least a year old. We're looking into providing 10 or so netbooks for children to take home and use with their parents and by themselves and obviously we dont want anything untoward doing while the kids use the netbooks. Anyway been pointed in the direction of PCE and wondered if anyone could give me their opinions and such on it? Also having a little problem with the clients not activating onto our host for some reason, the host is on the internet but the machines arent getting through to it to pull settings, does anyone know the fix for this? Special ports or something need unblocking? Thanks in advance guys!

The high school i help out have introduced a fingerprint system where you walk through the door, stick your thumb onto the scanner and it logs the time you came in/left whatever. From what i understand they need a computer somewhere for the hardware to interface with and upload sign in/out details etc. I will ask this friday when i go in for more details and post back if youd like.
