Yes the bruises on the arm aren't too bad, you can get a forearm protector which helps. The other thing worth getting is a chest guard, especially the lady archers, catching a nipple with the bow string is a very painful experience:p

Compounds require a different shooting technique and use different muscles, so you would have to start with a low poundage recurve as soon as you moved to that anyway. Also, the distance achieved with a compound bow just isn't safe for a beginner, a low poundage recurve allows them to shoot safely at shorter distances, it's going to be a good few months before the average archer even get to 60 yards, so plenty of time to work up to the higher poundages to do longer distances. You also have the problem that compound bows are more complicated to set up and maintain, it's easier for beginners to learn the basics of maintenance on a recurve and then decide if they want to stick with recurve or move to compound or traditional bows, or a mix of any of those. Edit: I wouldn't be starting a beginner on anywhere near 40lb draw, one for safety and two you need to develop technique at low poundages and then build up.

Another archer here, as soon as I saw this thread I just knew there would be people advocating the teccy compounds bows I shoot recurve as barebow and longbow, prefer low tech Ok, usually with beginners courses they will let you do the first session as a taster session and don't have to commit/pay for the whole beginners course until after the first session. At most clubs you cannot just turn up and ask to have a go, there has to be someone who is qualified as a trainer present to supervise otherwise they are in breach of their insurance, it's not until you've completed the beginners course and signed up as a member that you can shoot without a trainer present. I would recommend not doing the course in one weekend, it is better to do it over a few weeks as even though the bows used on beginner courses are very low poundage you are using muscles you've never used before, or should be if you're being trained properly. If you do take it up, don't be tempted to buy a bow off the internet, especially a second had one off fleabay. If you've seen recurve or compound limbs break on draw then you'll understand why. Get recommendations from the club of a good local archery shop and go there. They will set up the bow properly for you and also allow you to test limbs of different draw weights. Don't be tempted to go too heavy on the draw weight to start with, it's better to start with slightly less which will allow your body to get used to it and also it is easier to perfect a good technique if you're not stressing your body. Archery shop will allow you to trade in your limbs for higher poundage ones when you need to move up.

We've been with Ricoh direct for a few years now, the big copiers are miles better than the Xerox ones we had, their printers are great as well. The only machines which seem a bit fragile are their older MFDs, the newer ones are absolutely fine though, bullet proof so far and that one is in the Library and is by far our highest used MFD. The service is good, you do sometimes find a slight delay with some items, but they do let you carry a buffer stock so it's not usually a problem. What I do like with them is that you can lease or buy their equipment and just pay a per click charge, there are no maintenance charges or minimum click counts.

Are you on a 3 year agreement or starting a new 1 year as when we were on a 3 year schools agreement we couldn't remove products or lower the head count, only keep it the same or increase it or add new products. First off, Dell are very quick in supplying kit in a DR situation, speak to your account manager. Secondly, please don't do back of fag packet guesses on how long it will take to recover the necessary servers. You do actually need to test this, document the procedures required and the time taken in optimal conditions (ie working network, internet connection etc) and then add extra time for a real live scenario in non optimal conditions. Definitely do not underestimate the time required, if anything err on the side of caution and overestimate. You also have to account for if you are not there, say on holiday, ill, etc. You also need to look at things like one server failing, loss of server room, software issues etc. Please, please, please involve SLT and later on Governors in this, they need to be aware of the time it takes to recover systems. If they are not happy with the times given, then it is up to them to decide if they want to invest in a more robust solution. I speak from experience on this, twice, once an arson attack and secondly when we had a software/hardware problem in our virtualisation stack which took over a week to fix. Since then the Governors and SLT decided we needed to invest in a solution to give us better resiliency and quicker recovery in a DR situation. The other thing is if you are looking at another school to have a reciprocal arrangement of hosting a DR server, it's not as straight forward as it sounds, it needs solicitors involved to draw up a contract, insurance needs altering etc etc.

Some of the Dell rack mounts do require quite a deep frame, the actual length of the server isn't a problem, it's the minimum length that the rack mounts will install in that can be a problem. Measure the gap between your front and back rails and check with Dell if it will fit. You may also find that you can move your front and/or back mounting rails further apart, but it's a swine of a job if your cab already has equipment in.

Have fun exploring and learning them All these can run on Windows, but their native environment is Linux, so it would be good to get some experience of Linux at the same time. Install something like VirtualBox on your PC so you can set it up in a virtual environment so it's easier to roll back if needed, also another good learning experience

Sygic is good, wouldn't say it's brilliant as you have to be careful with it on some roundabouts and look at where it is sending you on the map rather than following the voice instructions which can be wrong.

You can use DFSR, you just have one folder target enabled so they always access that one. It may initially sound pointless, but we use it to replicate to a server in another building and if we lose the main server we can just enable the second server as the folder target and disable the main server as a target. Yes, you may get some corrupted profiles and a small amount of data loss that hasn't synced, but it means we can have minimal downtime.

You really do need more than 2 servers, yes you could run that many hosts on 2 servers but it's at its limit and if you had a server failure or were upgrading one of the servers, you wouldn't have the capacity to run all your VM's, so you should always go with 1 more server than you need. Also, you normally want you run the backup server as a physical server, especially if you are going to be backing up to tape. For SANS, if you are going with Dell servers then I would go with a Dell Equallogic SAN. Make sure your DC's are on Server 2012 as it's the only version that properly supports DC virtualisation. Also have a serious think about disaster recovery and availability, think if you lost the server room to fire/flood/theft, what are the essential services the school would need and how quickly would they need them.

You can use DFS for roaming profiles, you just have to make sure they're pointing to a single target.

Try doing a test backup straight to tape rather than to disk. If that is still slow, then check you have the latest client on the target server and also try disabling antivirus on the target server and also the backup server, also check your network configuration and nic drivers. If straight to tape is fine, then check you haven't got indexing turned on on the disk volume, also test the speed you can write to the disk by using some benchmarking software or just by copying a large file onto it.
