Little late, but I think if you plug it in to the usb and hold the record button down until the logo vanishes, it might recognise it as a removable media disk which you can then just copy the videos off. Having had to source a HDD for the one that failed in a Poweredge 2800 recently, I'd quite happily recommend Upgrade Options (Upgrade Options) who Dell passed me on to because the server was out of warrenty.

36Degress is right, although there are some Agents you can add to it (not 100% sure which one's though). It's also the OEM version, so you wouldn't be able to get any support direct from Symantec either.

In one of our Science labs I installed a computer last year which is connected to the network wirelessly and has worked pretty well so far. As with all things that work well, the teacher now want's to build on that and connect it to the projector. The problem being the desk is in the middle of the room and the only safe way of cabling it really is to drilll a hole in the floor then run it up the wall as they (understandably) don't want cables running along the floor. So, I was wondering if anyone has used or can reommend a wireless projector server or some kind of Wireless VGA transmitter that would do the job. Thanks

Hi Rob I've been asked to investigate getting Dartfish and camera's associated with it (along with 2 laptops to run it on, although sceptical about that) and was wondering what camera's you ended up getting in the end and whether something small and simple such as the Flip Camera's would do the job?

The digital Blue website was blocked here by county under the Adult category when I was looking for more details on the camera's. Had to double check the url at home before I requested an unblock just to make sure...

It's funny, I don't usual blog and tend to pop on Edugeek with problems but it's a great resource and one I'm very pleased to have found (otherwise I think by now I'd have given up all hope, especially after the last couple of weeks). But the latest problem, how to migrate a load of files, preserve permissions and do it dead easily. I've used Robocopy with the GUI in the past to move files and it worked a dream, however for whatever reason (probably me being dumb) I couldn't get it to do what I wanted, migrate all the files and preserve all ownership, time stamps, acl's ect. It is possible and now I've done it using the command line I really don't know why I couldn't do it. But I thought I'd post it up here in case anyone else wants it or I need to do it again and have exactly the same problem. First off because I couldn't do it, I started with XCOPY which was brilliant, fairly quick and did everything I needed except copy the timestamps of folders. That was done using: xcopy z:\ "F:\staff shared\" /E /K /O Wonderfull, but as mentioned because I'm pernickity I'd like to keep all the folder timestamps. (This will be my eventual tool for beating people round the head saying do you really need this folder from 2005/04/02 ect). And so it was back to robocopy. The eventual command line I used was: robocopy Z:\ "F:\staff shared" /COPYALL /E /R:0 /DCOPY:T And off it trundelled and is doing exactly what it said on the tin and doing it brilliantly. The one little switch I couldn't work out for the GUI? /DCOPY:T which copies the directory timestamp. The only other little gotcha that caught me out, was that the destination directory, doesn't like to have a \ on the end, especially if there's a space in it. Otherwise you just get loads of access denied errors and the impossibility of working out why (especially when your logged on as Administrator). Wonderful, and now I can go back to beating staff round the head. Ideally you'd do this before you copied all of their stuff across, but time is short and I need to rebuild the server before the other one dies alas. Oh the joys of working in IT!

I think it's to do with the proxy. I have mine reporting to the WSUS and was getting the same error until I added it to the bypass list. Odd, because I haven't had to do it on any other servers before. Edit: Could possibly have a run through this and see if it picking the proxy up properly: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900935/

The last time we did tests, I just deployed them using the MSI's in the downloads folder in the usual way rather then login on to each workstation if thats any quicker for you.

Thanks again all, called Dell up today and spent a bit of time chatting to them and they ended up advising getting a replacement drive and I have managed to source one just before I left today so will get the order sorted out earlier tomorrow. Thanks again!

Thanks SYNACK! It's a Maxtor drive so I'll see if I can do a bit of digging to find out about any additional warranty details. Otherwise back to the hunt for a hard drive.

Me again (sorry!) First thing this morning was busy checking one of our servers and noticed that SMART is predicting the drive to fail in the array soon (wonderful). So apart from busy trying to find a replacement HDD it's thrown up the issue of do I need a new caddy as well or since I'm simply going to be taking one drive out and putting another drive in it's place can I simply reuse the existing caddy and swap the drives over? Also I'm assuming I'm doing the right thing by planning to replace the drive when I can find a replacement or should I be trying something else first? The server is a Dell Poweredge 2800. Thanks

This could be where I've gone wrong. I have a Raid 5 Array which has come up with 1 Disk only rather then 2/3 so probably my own mistake. Thanks all. Edit: Sat and spent another 30 mins playing with my virtual machines and I've got my Basic and Dynamic Disks all mixed up, all straight in my head now so will create the partitions and then convert to a dynamic disk at a later date if I need to in order to extend other partitions. Thanks Have allocated 60GB to drive C so that should hold. I'll allocate the partitions and leave the one most likely to increase at the end. Is it dynamic disks that allow you to extend using space anywhere on the disk? If so are there any problems using Dynamic Disks on a Hardware Raid 5 setup?

Hi all I'm busy setting up the new server at the moment before I start tackling Backup Exec (because I'm not fully awake yet so wouldn't put up a good fight). I have created my Raid 5 drive and now need to setup the partitions. I'm wanting the best way to do it so that I can extend the drives if needed. Should I leave the disks as basic, then partition the drive as needed leaving space after each drive to allow it to be extended if I need it or is there a better way to do it? Thanks!

OS came from a different company, however the whole package (server and OS) was ordered through a reseller so will push them.

Nah, no upgrade that I'm aware of. It's an OEM version (Quickstart I believe, will have to check when I'm back in tomorrow) included with a Dell Server. Guessing I'm going to be up a creek then.

More a personal request then anything else. Busy putting together plans for upgrading various parts of my computer and was thinking of an SSD drive. Are the Intel X25-M drives still the ones to go for or has something else overtaken them?
