  1. I think - because I think we created duplicate reports when I was testing one and another member of staff was altering it and ended up with 2 the same name, the one which was created last is the one which gets called by commandreporter.
  2. How would I go about doing that? (probably a very daft question) I could see how to isolate things on the Print Server (but can't because it's 2003) but couldn't find an option anywhere to do it on the RDS server.
  3. Ours is set at 100 (I think the default?) and is blocking pretty much everything we need to - I am slightly tempted to make it a little bit harsher, but haven't done so yet.
  4. The inbox 7/2008 r2 drivers are the latest I can find which I (think) I've set the print server to use (6.1.7600.16385) - it a HP Laserjet 4200. Put them on using the 7/2008 r2 print management console and connected to the 2003 server, then altered the server to use the new driver. Not sure if there's another step I need go through? I've also tried to use the individual drivers where possible rather then the Universal driver, so is it worth using/trying the UPD?
  5. Afternoon Could someone help me to start and work out how to fix this one. I've setup a server as a terminal server and using windows thin pc as clients. The RDP file prevents printers from being redirected. All printers are hosted on a Windows Server 2003 server - X86 and x64 drivers on the server for this printer are the out of the box Windows 7/2008 R2 respectively and printers are allocated out through Group Policy Preferences. When ever a user logged on, the print spooler would terminate unexpectedly, regardless of whether it's an administrator or normal user. Stopping the print spooler keeps working without a problem. If I manually add the printer with a port using the share of the 2003 server, and keep using the existing driver, the printer spooler works fine and has done so for several days. While it's fine as it is now since I'm only trialing it in one room, it doesn't bode well for when I want to expand it out further. Anyone give me any hints on how to find out why the print spooler is crashing?
  6. Have you unrestricted the .lnk extension? If not, any shortcuts will all be restricted too.
  7. Is this the firm that's also supporting rural broadband?
  8. I've just set mine up to use GPP and used this pretty much: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/thin-client-virtual-machines/64705-tip-use-group-policy-preferences-deploy-printers-terminal-server-clients.html All my thin clients are using Windows Thin PC and set up in the naming format TPC-Room-xx, so for example TPC-IT3-01 and the preference targets a Terminal Session with a client name of TPC-IT3-?? (could have used TPC-IT3-* but there are only ever going to be 2 numbers after the last bit in this room so just went for ?? instead) and it just sits in the same allocate printers policy I use for the rest of the site.
  9. Was thinking of taking the next of my Microsoft exams, however just found out the test center I normally used is no longer on the list, perfect. There's none left in cumbria now from what I can see so I'm going to have to travel further afield and wondered if anyone could recommend any in particular? (Would look at North East as long as access if fairly good with plenty of parking ) Cheers
  10. Will have a look tomorrow to make certain what I'm saying is right, but if you go to your list of Workstations and view the details of one with an issue, you can click on the installation definition ie. SIMS Workstation and on the left hand side remove that type from it. If it's the only type it will ask you if you want to remove the Agent as well but say no to that. Then go back to where you select your SIMS workstation again and add that particular machine again. Then when you redploy the summer update, that particular machine will not see it's self as having installed the update and redeploy it. Sorry for the delayed response, missed the reply.
  11. Looks like it's following the Touchpad's footsteps.... HP Pre3 phone in £250 price cut - Telegraph
  12. Cheers for the help guys! Much appreciated
  13. I'm going to try and pick one up tomorrow if I can find one in the price drop, might be interesting trying to find one though by the looks of it.
  14. I second this, how do you get the SIMS application setup? I hate having to let Solus3 try and redeploy everything just to install SIMS on to one new workstation at the moment! The only way of reinstalling SIMS on a workstation (because 2 helpful people left SIMS open when they should have closed it so the upgrade only partly completed) was to remove the target definition from the workstation, leaving the solus agent installed, then recreating the target definition and once again deploying the summer upgrade.
  15. Don't know about recent editions (we don't have money to upgrade), but at my last school I remember there being an MSI and Transform file available for deployment, either on the CD in the Sibelius pack or available from Sibelius them selves (can't remember exactly sorry).
  16. What I've noticed (and Windows XP did this too) is when you try to runas something from a network drive, the system loses the mapped drive, presumably because the secondary logon service doesn't have the mapped drive letter available to it. Did a quick search and this site (Why are mapped drives lost when a Vista/Windows 7 administrator is elevated) suggests opening an administrative command prompt, mapping the network drive using it and then right clicking and running the setup as administrator. Not sure of another solution for this other then getting a file together which will call the sims setup files from the network path instead of the mapped drive.
  17. Thanks Matt - Patch 16067 didn't get released because apparently we hadn't upgraded to the Summer Release (which we had and sent the Solus 3 Deployment History across to Support and had to do the patch manually) In this case, did the Discover Backup Utility get released or is that waiting for the autumn release as well? Did go searching for the Hosted Technical Guide on Supportnet but I'm assuming because we are a Single Site School we won't have permission to view the Hosted Technical Guide as I can't find it anywhere.
  18. Back in July there was a news item on Support Net saying that there were Discover improvements in the Summer Release - I'm now going to ask a stupid question. Has there been a seperate SIMS Discover Summer Release that should be available through Solus 3 automatically or is it something I need to request or was it applied automatically in the SIMS Summer Release? Having just had to request the Exams Patch 16067 manually because Solus 3 won't show it, I'm just starting to wonder if we have a bigger issue here.....
  19. Ok, lesson learned. When you click on the server version you want, select the 32 bit version and microsoft calls the file Windows Server 2003 X64, ignore it. It is the x86 version just Microsoft try to confuse you! Thanks @gshaw!
  20. This machine is only licenced for 2003, not 2003 R2 Edit: never mind, might be sorted - off to test....
  21. Afternoon I don't suppose anybody has a Windows Server 2003 x86 with SP2 VLK ISO to hand they'd be able to send across to me do they? I had planned to reinstall one of our Servers tomorrow to increase the System drive size and a general tidy up but the only CD I've got is the original Server 2003 install. Not a problem, I can soon update it, just thought it would be much cleaner/nicer to do the install from the media then patching up once again. Had a look on the Volume Licencing site and the only versions up there are 2003 R2 (which is no good as that comes in x64) Thanks
  22. We use one of these on a Windows XP machine, but didn't realise there were updates available for the Software. We have one small problem in that by default ours always seems to go to extend instead of duplicate by default and while it's just a simple switch to flick it, I'd much rather it do that by default - might try the updated software and see if it works any better.
  23. We have (admittedly a long time ago now) had a phantom user before, a Server restart fixed it. Might be worth a try?
  24. This little line was included in the Academy FMS Services document I was sent across (and then I was pretty glad I went with my own system a year a go when deciding):
  25. Might help: If you are backing up to disk, there is no hardware compression available so it will never compress the backup. If you want to compress your backups which go to disk, you need to use Software compression. (Had this issue with the Dell RD1000 drives we use)
