Hi All Could anyone confirm for me whether there is any difference in product code for anything purchased under a 3 year ees agreement rather then a 1 year agreement? Just want to make sure I am going to get to quoted for the right thing. Thanks

I think 3.4 timed out after about a week but I could be wrong, I've been quite impressed with how 3.5 is rolling out the Solus 3.5 update to the last few computers automatically which I couldn't get to last week. Not got up to the point of doing the Spring update yet though, so I am prepared for the usual problems.

While I wouldn't be chuffed at having to do it in my own time, especially a mandatory one, are you employed whole year or term time only? If term time only, does it include like mine does a termtime + 1 week of inset + 1 additional week and if it does, do you do the +1 inset and +1 additional week or not? Just to bear it in mind.

I'm perhaps not understanding the issue with this, so going to ask a question: If people who are doing double PE are taking PE in Block A and Block C and people who are doing Single PE are only doing it in Block C, wouldn't you achieve what you are after by simply allocating the students to Block A who are doing the double and Block C regardless of whether they are doing double or single or is there a reason you need 2 types of PE in Block C? To achieve what you are after you are effectively introducing a clash, so you would build your blocks, schedule then and then schedule it over the top, you should get a popup saying it clashes and lock/clash on the left hand side, put a tick in that box and then both will be timetabled at the same time. You just need to be careful when you do it to make sure you aren't clashing any other members of staff. (Doing from memory, so think those steps are right)

While we bought our Makerbot through Robosavvy, we also got some training which was provided by these guys which was very good: Black Country Atelier

Did you manually remove it from the workstation or just from the Solus3 definition? It shouldn't really make any difference, but if you did just alter the definition I'd manually uninstall it from the computer through Control Panel and then try to redeploy it. Does sound like a strange quirk, on another note I would check that 2 scheduled tasks still exist in the Windows Task Scheduler on the server for the Discover Data Transfer and Discover Group Transfer. When I first setup Solus3 (admittedly a while ago) when Discover was already installed the Scheduled Tasks vanished for some reason and I had to manually recreate them. (Not related to your current issue, a completely seperate issue)

That's an interesting one then and I wouldn't no where else to look for a problem really. Was it a brand new client you installed or a previously installed one upgraded by Solus3? Might be worth uninstalling Discover through Add/Remove programs and trying to redeploy it in the usual way from the Deployment History screen.

I haven't any plans to transition everything across to the cloud, obviously that can be taken out of my hands but then I wouldn't remain here much longer if it was. We're currently considering opening up Office 365 and Google Apps for education to link into the google accounts for things like AppInventor and using Google sites and using email through Office 365, but that's as far as I'm planing to go at the moment. The Office 365 for the exchange like features plus more storage then I could even consider offering internally. At the moment we don't have any internal email system anyway so that isn't so much of a huge shift for us. I don't like the idea of transitioning everything out of the environment, being at somebody elses whim in terms of what can happen and also becoming reliant upon a service which should a company not like any more they could pretty easily close down and you'd be left hanging. Maybe I'm too negative on it, but it doesn't hold my confidence still.

Do you mean the settings for the Discover client connecting to the discover database or another part of discover? It would be worth checking that the settings within the Solus3 workstation for SIMS discover match up with what you are expecting, the critical bit being stage 3 (Select the discover database the client definitions relate to) - this is on Solus 3.4 but don't think it will have altered in 3.5 So in my case: SQL server: hades Instance: sims2008 Database: discover

Licensing on Microsoft Office 2010 on RDS servers
Cache replied to MrWu's topic in Licensing Questions
Yup, your almost there and there is nothing wrong with your KMS at the moment, it's just not activated yet. You need a minimum number of clients in order to activate the KMS server, for Office 2010 it is 5. How many RDS servers do you have in your farm which need Office 2010 installed? If it's 5, just crack on and when the 5th is installed it will chug away quite happily. If you haven't got 5, if you've a couple of workstations you can install Office 2010 and get to activate via KMS to make up the shortfall from your servers, that will achieve the same result. Licensing on Microsoft Office 2010 on RDS servers

Ours is activated via KMS from the EES agreement and the EES version you have should be the VLK version. Have you tried activating it while the RDS is in install mode to see if that makes any difference? ("change user /install" on a command prompt, activate it and then "change user /execute") -
Not sure to what extent it can do as it wasn't covered in a lot of detail and it's over a month since I saw it, but I'm pretty sure SCCM 2012 SP1 can do a limited amount of iOS management with the likes of app deployment (and maybe removal).

[sims] SOLUS3 - The remote machine cannot be contacted
Cache replied to howartp's topic in MIS Systems
We definitely don't have Auto-Deployment turned on I'm positive about that, we do have the Auto-download to client enabled but that was recommended to make the actual upgrades go smoother by having the files on the agent ready to install when it's deployed. The behaviour of auto-installing SIMS on a new agent is as designed and according to the manual should also work for FMS. Check page 59 of the administration guide (Supportnet id: 19373). I agree that it's odd it's contrary to what was delivered on your training course though, not been on one myself. -
What exactly did Pheonix quote you for? Possible they just quoted you for Windows 8 Pro on an EES agreement rather then the Educational Desktop (educational desktop includes the core cal pack and windows 8 upgrade)

[sims] SOLUS3 - The remote machine cannot be contacted
Cache replied to howartp's topic in MIS Systems
On this point, if you add a new PC to your SIMS deployment environment, once an initial deployment has occured it will automatically download and install SIMS on the machine. Don't know whether this is the case with FMS or not because we dropped that soon after we installed Solus3 so never did a deployment, but it doesn't occur with Discover (you need to follow your redeployment route as above) - This may have changed in the Solus Spring release, I'm not that far ahead yet. -

Offline! Do I win? -
Yeah that's what I figured out, althoguh I think I went arround 20 different sites until I found out that it was just what underpinned it, not holding the password. It's such a shame that it doesn't though........

I can't recommend AMC highly enough either, especially on HP gear as said above, no one else could come close! (and they aren't imports either)

I was doing some more research yesterday and actually came across this: http://activedirectory.windowsazure.com Still in preview at the moment, but looks like they might be offering it for free, would be a way of achieving the IAM cloud/the method I roughly outline without any cost I think..... Access Control Service 2.0 & Identity: Windows Azure Active Directory Edit: actually never mind with that, think I've got completely the wrong end of the stick with it.

Perfect, thanks for the replies guys. I'll go set it up and have a play.

Evening all Is it possible to signup for Google Apps without using gmail? The reason being I want to evaluate Google Apps and Office 365 using our existing domain but without transfering anything across from our existing services. Is this possible and easy to do or am I just asking for trouble? Thanks

I had this with a server a couple of years ago with a failed raid disk. I couldn't get it to boot, in the end I left it over night to complete the raid rebuild after replacing the disk and then ran chkdsk and then had to restore the systemstate from backup because of a corrupted registry. The key thing was letting the raid rebuild complete because I couldn't even boot into window recovery until this had completed for some reason (might have just been grumpy).

I use wds with a setupcomplete.cmd script to install office, antivirus and run the Windows Self Assessment which is working well. Planing to move to SCCM eventually though.
