No idea about your Sage server I'm afraid. We have it enabled on our SIMS VM backup as it tends to keep Solus 3 and discover in check with their log files (but maybe there's something else going on there and I haven't picked up on it) and I presume also keeps the SIMS database tidy and consistent at the time of backup should I need to restore the VM. We've also continued with a scheduled dbattach backup so we have that should the worst come about.

Not really sure where to stick this. I'm after a Nexus 10 for work, however have come up blank with nearly all of my suppliers saying they aren't able to source them. Anybody able to recommend where to buy a Nexus 10 or have contact details for Google so I can see about purchasing direct from them? Cheers

I had this on two laptops, one I gave up on completely after a week and gave back saying it was knackered, I can pull your stuff off if you need it, otherwise it's back to factory settings with the system restore disks. The other I managed to get working by using the Offline SFC scanner from a windows cd with: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows But you said you already tried that. I think the key difference between the two laptops I had was Sticky Keys. Now it could have just been disabled on one laptop and not another, but on the laptop I did manage to fix, pressing shift quickly however many times it is to enable/disable sticky keys and getting the familiar enabling/disabling beeps indicated the system somewhere along the line was working. I'd run sfc again and read through all the CBS again just in case there is a file that it can't fix and try manually replacing it and seeing if that helps anymore, otherwise it might be like the first one I had and a lost cause... Can Solus3 install the Document Management Server then? I thought that was another bit of the software it knew about but doesn't do anything with, but could be wrong....

Yeah, the channel for Nova is in Solus 3, there's just nothing there. Don't suppose you could give me that KB number @Rawns?

Thanks Vik, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I suppose I'll need to get a hold of it anyway at some point in order to migrate to SQL 2012 and refresh the server. Touch wood Solus 3 worked almost perfectly on the last upgrade after total collapse on the previous one, so hopefully we're over the worst of oour implementation now.... (and that's it cursed to hell now) Thanks again!

Will request the ISO in the morning then. Just out of interest, after getting it, do I just copy and paste to overwrite the setups folder or is there some magic to updating it (sorry for the dumbd question!)

Solus3 is working fine most of the time, so the setups aren't needed for running upgrades, it's only for the installation of the necessary missing bits such as BDE that I need it and don't want to screw anything up by using an out of date Infrastructure or Nova Setup file. (It's also a pain since they are still necessary you'd like to think Solus3 would include it, or since it knows where the SIMS file server is it could also update the setups folder for you) Summer 2011 was the last Solus 2 upgrade I did, so just wasn't sure if I could use the latest update ISO to overwrite the setup file I've got. Evening all I need an updated Nova Satalite setup and since we use Solus3 obviously the setups directory doesn't get updated any more so mines from 2011. Can I just download the latest Spring Update ISO and copy the setups files across that it contains or am I better going with the SIMS installable ISO and copying the setups folder across from that (or am I supposed to use the File server upgrade thingy)? Never had to update from an ISO before, all because Options won't work properly without BDE and Solus3 doesn't install it!

I thought this, but it just about brought the network to it's knees when doing multicasting. Maybe I don't have it configured right, but the unmanaged stuff was throwing all the multicast traffic back into the network as broadcast unicast (I think), so would be worth checking out.

Have you any unmanged switches/hubs floating around on your network anywhere? When I was multicasting in the summer I disconnected parts of the network with any unmanaged networking device on (not my doing, still trying to replace with managed stuff) and it boosted the speed no end. There was one client in one room for some reason that slowed the multicast for whatever reason, just disconnected that one and did it seperately from the rest. Might be worth disconnecting parts of your network from the core to see if you can narrow down any particular area that's causing a problem during a multicast?

We don't have the student option so don't worry about students, staff however if they want Office, we tell them to buy under the Home Use program, they then deal direct with Microsoft and there's no management from our point of view. (other then point out the T&C's and providing the program code)

I had the same discussion with a company at one point, they said you did but others said you didn't. In the end I passed it on to someone else simply saying have we got a WEEE number and do we need one. The conclusion they came to was unless you are recycling a large ammount of stuff (can't remember the exact weight) then you don't need one, otherwise legally you should be registered as a waste producer. Because the ammount I was recycling fell below the weight we didn't get one. Recently though we've been using another company and they've never asked us for a licence number, so it's not cropped up again. Evening all As it's been pretty miserable for a bank holiday (suprise suprise) I've been messing arround with my test setup for SCCM. The one bit I'm struggling to get my head around is managing updates for Workstations and controlling the reboot. With WSUS, I've got the GPO set to automatically download and update computers at lunchtime and prompt for a restart, but I don't see how you can achieve the same setup in SCCM. The only thing that seems to come close would be to allow the deployment to occur as soon as possible and then supress a reboot so that it doesn't go off and restart in the middle of a lesson. Making it optional like I've done for the test server makes sense and links in with the existing WSUS policy for prompt but don't download, but can't see any similar configuration to install at this time for workstation. So, really I'm wondering how people deal with deploying updates through SCCM to machines and the reboot (which polciies are configured or the process used) and if a deadline is used, how it deals with machines which are off when the deadline passes.

We had a problem where the transfer was taking hours and hours to timeout too, it happend after the Autumn upgrade I think. Running the reindex patch brought the transfer back down to 5 - 10 minutes, so well worth applying that.

Afternoon! I'm looking into deploying the System Center Suite providing the initial deployment of configuration manager all goes ok. What I'm wondering is, those of you who have gone down the route of using the many components of System Center, are you using a single System Center machine, or do you have one machine for each role (such as SCCM, SCSM, SCOM etc). We're not a massive site and would rather keep it on one VM if possible, but if it's not I'll just need to expand the hardware a bit more before hand. Thanks

I'm just wondering if I'm going slightly mad or not and if anyone can confirm. I'm just glancing down the Summer 2013 pre release note and it seems to suggest that performance management for staff is going to be a chargable addon rather included in the core licence. I was under the impression it was going to be included as part of the core licence, but can't find where I read this at now. Am I going made and imagining that it was going to be free, or is this an hidden change to Capita's plans?

We work the same way you want to. Solus3 is automatically set to download the updates to it's database and download the updates to the agents automatically in advance of deployment. We then pick the day/time we want to deploy it sometime in the future, normally a couple of weeks and I sit and set it off. I do schedule discover updates automatically for an early morning as that is a less critical system if it goes wrong, while my trust was almost there with Solus3 one bad update turned it sour so I wouldn't touch the autodeployment of SIMS. To sum Solus3 up in one sentance, when it works it's great, when it doesn't it can be a right pain to fix. The last couple of upgrades have been a dream compared to some of the previous ones we've done using it.
