  1. There is an Android version of Emerge also. Can't comment on it as we don't have it, but it definitely does exist.
  2. I think I had tried that before and it didn't work for some reason. Famous last words, but we're back in the love part of our love hate relationship so far today so I'll try enabling it tonight.
  3. I remember having this issue. 1. Make sure you have an administrative command prompt open when you run the above command. 2. Try running prodesktop by right clicking and run as administrator and complete the extrusion 3. Check the ISScript8 has been installed also (msi file is in the prodesktop setup folder if you need it) How did you install Prodesktop onto the machine? What has been the best fix for me was to deploy Prodesktop using the mst attached below through group policy. Since doing that it all seems to be working better then ever before. I did find the instructions somewhere on Edugeek, but can't remember where now. Prodesktop_regserver_fix.mst
  4. There's nothing in the Operational log as that is where I pulled those events from. Can't find the gpsvc.log file, any ideas where it's stored?
  5. Yeah, that's been installed over a year and not made much difference unfortunately
  6. I love my terminal server most of the time, quite recently it had been a dream compared to how it used to be. This week it has reverted back to form and is being a right pain in the ####. Every so often the Group Policy Client crashes and that stops the internet explorer policy from applying, leaving us with no internet proxy settings and therefore no internet access on the terminal server. A reboot of the server fixes this and it works along quite happily for a while and then crashes once again. Event ID 1128 is logged in the System event log. I've done some more digging today and event ID 6330 is being logged in the group policy event log, the text being: An unfinished invocation of the Group Policy Client Side Extension {BC75B1ED-5833-4858-9BB8-CBF0B166DF9D} from a previous instance of the Group Policy Service has been detected. This may indicate that the extension caused the Group Policy Client Service to terminate unexpectedly. There is alson one logged for Extension {A2E30F80-D7DE-11d2-BBDE-00C04F86AE3B}. I've managed to track these down to Group Policy Printers and Internet Explorer Branding extensions, however I'm stuck as to where to go from here. I can't remember if I've asked this one or not, however I'm fed up of restarting the server 3 times a day now. Help please!!!!
  7. Your right, reading through IAM cloud it seems to do what I was suggesting. Guess it would just be matching the costs up between doing it yourself and the price they charge (FAQ on their site suggests the pricelist should be up there somewhere but can't find it)
  8. Ours comes from our old Google Places page which I went and claimed a while back.
  9. If I was going to roll out Office 365 I would want the SSO as well which is the main thing holding me back currently unfortunately (that and time). I did go to a Microsoft Hybrid IT Roadshow the other week and while it was pitched way way above any level I could possibly want to achieve, it did give me an idea. One of the key things it was showing was Azure, SCCM and the private/public cloud. While an added cost, it did make me think one possible way arround it if it could work would be to have a vpn to an Azure server, on that server host the ADFS and a Read-Only domain controller to handle all that side of things. It's certainly not something I would know how to do or if it's technically possible or not, but in my mind it seemed to make sense.
  10. I had to deal direct with One Connect too and it was suprisingly painless to get this one processed (logged about 10 am, call closed by lunch) Supposedly there is a form or a shopping basket or some such thing on the lancs schools portal for requesting such things, but being in cumbria I'm not allowed access to such interesting things..... Edit: Found an email which was sent to help for something else but it was an internal LCC link so I still wasn't allowed access, try looking for the Order from Catalog link on the left hand side of the Connect2ICT website
  11. Quick look suggests it might be worth requesting port 1935 to be opened to allow RTMP streaming. I've recently had it opened to allow streams to come in (cumbrian school) but used Akamai Flash Support Player to test whether 1935 was blocked or open. Might be worth testing to see whether the port is already open or not and if not, popping a request in to try it?
  12. If you are insuring a vehicle in their name, get them to do the Pass Plus course as well. Not all insurers accept it, but when I did it Aviva accepted it and it instantly gave me a year's no claims bonus. (truthfully, longer ago then I keep thinking in my head) Not sure on the pass plus details still, but it used to be 6 extra driving lessons.
  13. I think from memory, the embargo needs to be setup and enforced the day before you want it to come into effect, otherwise it doesn't work. (So if you wanted it on Wednesday, it would need to be setup and ready by 23.59 Tuesday) Not 100% sure now, but possibly something to watch.
  14. When I was testing other users I altered the proxy setting on my machine so that it went to a ssl login page and then logged in using that. Granted, not always possible to test exactly what you want this way but for testing websites and other simple things it's a quick and easy way of doing it.
  15. I think I had a similar issue with a print driver, however it would print you just couldn't view the print properties dialog. While I haven't fully investigated it because it is in a working state still at the moment and I've other changes planned, I think it's because I am using the 2008 R2/Windows 7 version driver on a 2003 print server (or the 2003/xp driver with Windows 7 clients, I can't remember which way round it is) which it isn't 100% happy about. I'd check what software is your print server running on and what driver version you are using, taking a clean version of the driver used on your server and manually connecting to the printer tcp/ip port and seeing if you have the same issue on a laptop that doesn't work.
  16. You haven't got a software restriction / applocker policy applying to students and not staff have you?
  17. Thanks that's all I needed to know! I'll carry on with the current redirection and people will just have to keep getting used to the way it works, I can do without the hassle of explaining 2012 as well!
  18. Afternoon all. I've been pondering this the past few days and would like someone to clarify it for me. On Remote Desktop, if I plug a usb drive in and it's configured correctly then the drive appears as "Mapped" drive effectively which I can understand. I thought if I enabled RemoteFX this would then show the usb drive as a drive like on a desktop machine rather then continuing to show as a "mapped" drive, but this doesn't appear to be the case. Have I misconfigured something or, even with remotefx enabled does a usb drive plugged in continue to show as a "mapped" drive? RemoteFX appears to be enabled on the session as when connecting it is logged with the correct event number in event log. Is there any way to change this? Thanks
  19. Drag 2 fingers down from the top of the screen and long press the aeroplane or long press the power button like @Gatt says
  20. See, thinking about this I would probably consider the following licencing to see how it would compare: Core CAL Suite (User & Device) - Student Offering/Option Windows Server™ 2012 Remote Desktop Services CAL - Student Offering/Option My probably naieve assumption being if you licence your student count under the student offering/option for both the Core CAL Suite as per user and you licence the RDS CAL under the student option, then you have everything covered under there (RDS CAL for your students to connect and then the Core CAL pack would cover access to your servers within the Windows CAL and Office under the Office CAL). Looking through the product list, there is a student offering/option available for the UAG, so I would guess that's not covered under the staff FTE for student devices either. I'd like to live in a logical simple world though so I'm probably way off.
  21. Bit late, but I've got this bookmarked for reference as to when I build a new ubuntu box or update an existing one and need to reneable the tools. VMware KB: Installing VMware Tools in an Ubuntu virtual machine
  22. We had this issue and gave up. I suspected that itunes wanted a username/password combination such as username@FQDN or NTDOMAIN\username but everything we tried didn't work, plus the fact I couldn't find anywhere in itunes to specify a specific proxy meant we just said it can't be used.
  23. @rad I'd be very interested in speaking to you to find out why you moved and the pro's/con's behind it (and more importantly what issues you had with your data as I fear ours could be the same). I'll drop you a pm with my details if that's ok and we can try and chat some time? @PhilNeal the Business Manager has been recieving details from the sales desk which is where this whole query has come from. A few things Capita offers have caught my eye but they are expensive for us when we are a small school (Emerge is one such example).
  24. To be fair, I have no issue with Schoolcomms at all and I am pleased it does just work (yes the odd hiccup, but nothing I can't handle and at worst a quick phone call to resolve) and I wasn't aware Intouch was so expensive either. Now to me one downside of Intouch from this thread would be the fact that I needed to be logged into SIMS to send messages if that is the case. Closing last week because of snow, whoever sent the message simply pulled up the Schoolcomms website or had already downloaded the client, logged in and sent the message. That is far more simpler then having to log into SIMS which would involve logging into the CLEO secure desktop, then logging into a machine, finally logging into SIMS to then be able to send a message. Like @vikpaw says, in theory we could lose all access to our site for whatever reason and still be able to inform parents if need be. At the same time moving to Intouch would, from my understanding, bring everything together and provide a more central place for communication logs and the like. Something I'm keen to keep pushing as far as I can because it does encourage more use of SIMS. All just swings and roundabouts I guess, but if it is £4000 then I'm pretty sure we'll be staying with Schoolcomms. Wish I was going to Bett though
  25. Morning all I've been asked what my opinion is of moving from Schoolcomms to Intouch. While I have very little to do with Schoolcomms other then the occaisional update or at a push a bad message alert, I was wanting a few more opinions. Schoolcomms I like because it does just work, can be accessed from any where if needed and as we only use it on a few machines anyway, it's not a problem to update. Has anyone moved from Schoolcomms to Intouch or anybody got any opinions or advantages of either system? Thanks
