It never crossed my mind to get external hosting. That does seem very cheap. Am I right in assuming then that I could stick a joomla site up on there pretty easily? I can add one to a xampp set up so it can't be much harder than that can it? Cheers

I have never run a web server on linux, is it pretty straight forward? I need the site up and running as soon as possible, would I be better sticking with windows server, as I wouldn't know how to use backup on ubuntu? Thanks

I have been asked to order a server to host our school web site. I am thinking of running xampp on windows 2003. SO I would need backups, probably tape drive, and disk mirroring as RAID 5 would probably be overkill for the webserver. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

Well my school have had a laptop trolley for a year now that has never, ever been used. The LEA tech support set it up for the school and it just never worked. So I arrived at the school and although I hate laptop trollies, due to past experiences, I thought I would have a go at setting it up. Anyway it turns out that the laptops were built to connect do a different domain so I rebuilt them and changed the wireless access points and now it all seems fine. BUT my question for everyone is does anyone have a policy or a sheet of A4 stuck to the trolley with advice for the users? I just want to get everything as right as possible before the mob get hold of them! Thanks

How about the enrolment key thingy? I have not used moodle for a couple of months (new school), but you could give the enrolment key to the staff and they only need it once to enrol top the course. Nobody can get onto the course without it.

CC3 here, it's not just a case of what can I get out of it! My worry would be that I become totally dependant on CC3 and then either the LEA tells us we are no longer in a contract with RM and we have to go non CC3 or RM were to go bust (Highly unlikely I know). Then all my non RM skills that have faded with time would be needed and I might not be up to the job!

Oh yes they do! I'm making a list of all my frustrations in my little black book. When It comes time to upgrade the system next year I'll look at it before I decide to upgrade to CC4!

Nope, The bootable CD won't work either as during the CC3 build data is sent back to the floppy! It is frustrating as I have one usb drive that has floppy drive emulation and about 20 that don't!

Thanks, but that's not what I want! I used to do that when I used ghost at my last school BUT CC3 won't work like that as it seems to want the USB drive to be drive a: I was wondering if anyone had managed to bypass this limitation at any other CC3 school? Cheers

Hi All, It's my first half term in A CC3 school and I want to rebuild many, many machines so I want to speed up the process by making some of my spare USB memory sticks into build disks. however they always seem to crash out looking for the A: drive at some point or other. Is it possible to make a build disk with a standard USB mem stick that hasn't been bought with an A: drive on it? Cheers

Do you have Ranger remote installed on the machines in question? I could never get Trackmania to work on machines with it installed! It was messing up Direct x in some way.

I'm sorry for you there PEO. A bit of an Aircraft/military feel to this thread now.

13 Years the same job. It went to a coroners court that I had to attend. The barrister of the guy who owned up to disconnecting the flying control rod asked Our Commanding Officer if pilots had to check flying control surfaces before flights (he even had the aircrew pre flight manual in his hands with that page selected in his hands. The CO lied through his teeth saying they did not. And the barrister? He came out with the immortal line "No more questions, you honour" When flying resumed the whole procedure changed to include a confirmation that flying controls had been checked. It didn't. Hence the crash!

Ok so you think you are having a hard time at the moment, let me take you back to the worst week of my life... Sometime about 12 year ago I was working in RAF and while I was at work my wife got a phone call. Caller - "Hello is your husband there" Wife - "No he's at work, who is this" Caller - "This is the CSA, can you get your husband to call us on this number when he gets home" So I arrive back home at the end of the day with my wife giving me a funny look, she explains who it was and I duly ring them up. It turns out that an ex girlfriend from 10 year previously has told the CSA that I am the dad of her kid and I am going to have to give her all my cash. I told them that I couldn't be me but they were adamant. I managed to persuade them to go down the DNA route but even then they wanted me to pay for the test at £450 for the pleasure. The next day I go into work early as our squadron are doing the weather checks in the area so our weather check aircraft has to take off first and find somewhere decent to fly for the day. I did the morning servicing of the hawk aircraft and signed up the documentation. I then went out to the aircraft and along with another person we strapped the pilot in and saw him off to the run way. I stood and watched as he took off from the runway about 400 metres from me. He got asbout 150 feet in the air before the aircraft flipped over and the pilot ejected into the ground killing him instantly and then the aircraft turned into a ball of flame as it crashed back down into the runway. I felt the heat from the fireball and then fell over with shock. Later that day the RAF police interviewd me and wanted to know why I had fallen over and was it because I felt guilty about something! About 4 days later we found out that a flying control had been disconnected and not reconnected after the work had been completed. So the fleet were aloud to fly again. I went to see an aircaft off again from the ground and found that the same rod was disconnected on this aircraft. I quickly told my boss and he reconnected it but I was never to tell anyon about it. That was the worst week of my life. I got the CSA results back about 4 months later giving me the all clear without an apology. It took 2 years for the RAF police to finally stop arresting me every few months to question me even though Somebody admitted to disconnecting the aircraft controls rods, as a favour to an overweight technician who couldn't access an area he needed to inspect, but he didn't tell anyone about disconnecting them and then went off shift. All the hassle made me give up on my RAF career and investigate the world of I.T. So in the end something good came of it. Now when I get a teacher moaning about their computer running slowly I am not that concerned about the work pressure and in another life I had a really stressful job!

I am trying to set up or rather did just set up Easylink on CC3. My school have never used it (not sure why that is) Anyway I have just found out that for Vista users to access it I need to have it installed on a CC3 forest root with Windows 2003 installed on it. My problem being my forest root is 2000. I do have a further CC3 server on Win 2003. So I am trying to see if I can change that to be the forest root or will I need to get my original forest root upgraded just because of those bothersome Vista users?
