  1. Well my wife has just this second rang me and asked me not to cause a fuss as she doesn't want his school life ruining. I would just like a letter of explanation to start off with! Thanks again.
  2. Yes, he was told to stand on the bench for the game they were playing. I still have not had the schools account of the event so i am still holding full judgement!
  3. My 14 year old son broke his humerus bone near the elbow last thursday while in school in PE. He was standing on a bench at the time waiting for a basketball to be thrown to him where he was supposed to then catch it an throw it on. Before the ball even got to him the bench tipped over and that's when the break occurred. He was in a lot of pain and the hospital told us that he was lucky that he didn't need it pinning. Anyway he was oiff school until Tuesday where he went back in to study in the library until he is happy moving among the hordes of students. So, anyway, I rang his school asking for details of the accident and if they had a risk assesment for the acvtivity they were carrying out. i have had no reply yet 48 hours later. The school manager at my secondary school told me that we should go an see a solicitor about claiming compensation for him as that is what happens in our school and we are insured against such thing so the school will not take it personally. My question to my fellow edugeekers is what would you do? I'm not really sure about the whole compensation thing but it could go into my sons bank account for when, or if, he went on to further education?
  4. I soooo would not go to halfords. My halfords do not have a clue. Really. I went asking for disc pads for mine and he didn't know that bikes had discs! I kid you not.
  5. Do I put my server name in the inbound smtp host name? I'll give it til tomorrow as the mxrecord was only set up at about 12:00 today. Thanks
  6. Sorry to ask another zimbra question but looking through the admin docs on zimbra has left me feeling useless, or more useless that normal! I am trying to test my installation to see if i can get it to sends and receive emails to the "real" world. I have an external ip address and an mxrecord but I cannot see what I need to do to get these working. I have added a domain - mail.tayna.eu (a spare one I have) BUT I dont knonw wher to put these bits of info into the general info tab? Could someone give me a hint? Thanks
  7. Cheers CyberNErd, I'm all for intercommunication but I'm trying to have answers ready for when they start asking!
  8. Hi All, I think I am getting close to binning our current LA provided email for Zimbra. However I am having problems managing the accounts as follows. I want to stop students seeing the staff email accounts in the GAL, I can do this by editing a single account and then unticking the "Global address list" box in the features tab. I cannot see how I can do this for a group of users at once. I'd hate to have to do this to each student account as it would take a looooong time. Can anyone suggest how I can get round this? Thanks

I'm always up for reading someone else's scripts. Ta.
  10. I think we are off to see her tomorrow and get a feel for how the home are dealing with the situation. I don't think it should be a knee jerk reaction from us along the lines of "where there's blame there's a claim" but I think we will look at how we can make sure it doesn't happen again. Thanks for all the suggestions and support.
  11. Are you sure it's not just an elaborate birthday cake?
  12. I suppose when you compare it to losing two days worth of back ups and being suspended, as somebody else has on here, I guess it is.
  13. My Nan, who is 103, lives in an old folks home. My dad goes to see her every week, it's a hour away from where we live. He received a call from the person in charge the day before yesterday saying that they had given her room mates medication to her. It was an anti psychotic drug that slows down the heart. My nan has a weak heart so not really good for her. They called a doctor and he told them it could kill her. They kept her awake for the night and the next day she was still ok. Anyway it's all over now but my dad doesn't want to cause a fuss and is even worried for the nurse (or equivalent) who gave her the medicine. Should I try to persuade him otherwise or do you think we should just try to move on?
  14. Thanks, I knew it was easy, but only easy when you know how/remember how!
  15. If you take a look here... Prenton High School for Girls you will see that I have an article with scolarest catering twice as a heading. Now I know I can turn this off somewhere but I cannot rememebr where. Could some kind soul remind me? Thanks
  16. I really feel like I must have missed out somewhere in my life as I have never had to use or set up a VLAN. Can anybody point me to some easy documentation on the subject? I think I need to pick it up as I'm about to move our system from CC3 to vanilla and by the looks of it this would help! Thanks
  17. Thanks for the link but I still can't see how to do it! I can't see how I can add http://10.50.22.55/booking in there. Can someone give a little more help? Thanks
  18. I have never got round to this before but it's about time that I worked out how to do it! We have several apps/sites that run on IIS on both server 2000 and 2003. They are accessed by browsing to, for example http://10.20.55.21/roombooking. How can I set it up so the user just has to type in EduGeek.net ? Is that within IIS or a DNS setting. Thanks
  19. Yep That would be Dave Cottington. Still here with me!
  20. @bossman Bus does sound slightly worse than the walking option!
  21. Which site did you use for this? That seems a price worth paying compared to the hassle of driving and finding parking!
  22. Some people do get up early don't they. I didn't think there would be any replies yet!
  23. I'll be missing BETT this year but I still fancy a trip to London. I'd be taking my other half and my two kids. I fancy taking them to some of the museums. It would be either a day trip or a one night stay in a cheapish hotel. Can anyone suggest a cheap way to do this from the North West? I would assume that car would be cheaper than four train tickets but I wouldn't know where to park. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
  24. I'm having trouble with a program called spex+ at the moment. It comes via download as an msi package but I can't install and run from a public folder and it doesn't seem to work when turning it into a cc3 package. I was going to just install it via gpo but somebody here told me that it won't work as cc3 wilkl have it's wicked way with it and screw it up! Any ideas folks?
  25. Hi All, I currently have Zimbra up and running as a trial on a decent workstation running Ubuntu 8 server. It's all because I was asked if students could use email for part of their coursework. I'm now trying to work out how to integrate it with our CC3 active directory, with no luck whatsoever. Has anyone else done this and if so could they maybe give me some pointers, please? Thanks
