Ok I can mount the drive from an nfs share from the terminal mount -t nfs 10.60.28.53:/volumes/promise/fog_images /mnt/fog_images but can't work out the syntax for doing that in fstab. Could someone point me in the right direction for that please?

I have a very large Direct attached storage device attached to a mac server (4TB). I guess i could work out how to mount a share from that and then put my images there. In fact I think I'll give that a go this morning as it seems very quiet this morning, famous last words.

Ubuntu desktop edition! I have not even tried yet, but wasn't sure how easy it would be. I guess I should trust linux a bit more.

Just to show more ignorance on my behalf, is it easy to mount another hard drive into a linux box? Would I just install it as usual and then use the mount or is it mnt command?

Like a giddy child with a new toy at Christmas, I went wild when we first found fog and I installed it on a spare workstation. Now I am regretting how good it is as I need more images but don't have enough space on my 40 Gig HD. Is there any way I could store my client images on another machine, be it linux or windows. Has anyone done this? thanks

Is this done without the need for groups on a mac server? Could you expand a little bit please, as this sounds like the sort of thing I need to do.

Is it possible to put a shortcut on a mac that all users will see on their desktop as it is on windows thru' documents and settings/all users ? I really do need an easy way to get all the users on the macs to see my shared area on a windows server and I'm stumped! Thanks

Hi All, We are running papercut here which is great fro controlling print costs. There is a script that papercut provide to start their management app on a mac which I can run by typing ./scriptname at a terminal BUT I am wondering how I could make a shortcut/alias for this on a users desktop? It needs to run the script from a share that all users have access to so to run it from the server so I normally cd to the directory it is in and then run it? Can anyone help? Thanks

Can I just check that smoothwall can be used just for filtering without the firewall? I really only need the filtering and checking individuals web habits. Thanks

OK, we are running two seperate domains one for admin one for curric. We are about to upgrade to one domain, well to be completed during the Summer hols. I have money already to buy two servers and some software and pay to have work done on those servers. We have a mac suite and a mac server with a DAS device with 4 TB HDs. We are currently running RM CC3 on the curric servers but not likeley to with new set up, Perhaps I need to look at software that I might need to replace CC3 functionality? We are currenly backing up data to tape drives on the servers but I'd quite like to move to an alternative system. Maybe SAN? We currently have no system to see what students have been doing on the web as the authority provide us with netsweeper which can't go down to individual level. I'm sure I have more info to give but I can't think of any at the moment!

All I'm concerned about at the moment with Ruckus is how much it would cost to cover a small secondary school! I can't find costs. Any ballpark figures? Thanks

Two of the SMT have just pounced on me and asked what I need or want to spend money now, right now. They explained that they have a large amount, without telling me the actual amount, of money and what would I like to buy this week as it has to be spent. I have suggested buying more ink carts and maybe projector bulbs which they are happy about but have asked if I have anything else I need Anyone think of anything exciting I should get?
