In a past life I was in the RAF (Bear with me this is on topic) We were on detachment in Las Vegas and the guy who was driving the minibus to work put a tape in the stereo. I shouted something along the lines of "get that sh*t off the stereo". Somebody gave me a shove and said shut up that's some early Robert Palmer music. I cried back "Well I saw him live once and thought he was crap" it was at this point that the sergeant who had put the tape in turned round and said "Robert Palmer is my brother " I really wished the minibus had been equipped with an ejector seat as the truth dawned on me. Needless to say he saw the funny side eventually and he ended up being my line manager for a couple more years!

Teacher wants to acess home folder from standalone laptop
reggiep replied to Andie's topic in Wireless Networks
Pray tell, how could this be done? I have only ever used terminal services for my own benefit so I didn't have to move over to the server cabinet. Is this an easy thing to set up? Thanks -
I just played with the script and it works a treat. Thanks. I'm off to the autoit site to have a play.

Argh! Shorcuts for staff on CC3
reggiep replied to reggiep's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Cheers, I had already added some stuff in X:\Group Resources\Programs but I didn't know about re-delivering. I will give that a go now. -
I am currently trying to tidy up the shortcuts for staff users with the RM Management console. I want to have a folder called subjects then more folders inside that but I can only seem to put shortcuts inside the main folder. Am I missing something obvious here? Thanks

Bailiffs cannot enter your property without your consent. They need police with them to gain entry. BUT if you let them through the door then they can do what they like!

Chips for free | E-learning | EducationGuardian.co.uk "A growing number of UK schools are relying on Google to manage the bulk of their ICT needs, the Guardian has learned. Google Apps Education Edition is a bundled package of web-based email, calendar and office software originally tailored for business but now being offered - free - to schools. And universities are beginning to take note, too." I have played with the apps before but nobody at my school was interested, how about you?

To be honest I don't know. The price was quoted before I arrived at the school and I have seen no paperwork to do with the quote!

I feel simultaneously jealous of you and at the same time glad I'm not you. Hmm what a fuzzy feeling that is.

Hmm, If you have read any of my other recent posts then you will know I am new again to CC3 after a 4 year break. I am setting up some laptops to go in a wireless trolley but I want to disable access to the choose a wireless network window as the students could disconnect the wireless as it stands. Any suggestions? Thanks

My 4th week at my present school and just been in a brainstorming/ spending money meeting. One of the previous items on the minutes was the installation of a wireless system at approx 28K. I asked why the system was being installed and the answer was to support the one laptop trolley we have with 15 laptops in it. Now don't get me wrong I would love a managed wireless system to play around with BUT we have need for it as all staff have a wired network connection for their machines so it really woulod be just for the trolley. I suggested that we invest a lot less cash on a couple of wireless receivers and strap them to the trolley. I don't think anybody had advised the school on this option as it means no profit for them (I should mention that my post as Network manager is a new post with no similar post before I arrived). Anyway I'm sure saving 28K for the school should be smartie points for me BUT can anyone suggest a decent wireless receiver that I can starp to the trolley? Cheers

Moving from CC3 to something else?
reggiep replied to reggiep's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Well at the moment I am trying to make users change their password at next login using Active directory > computers and users. When they log on nothing happens. I could be wrong but I'm thinking RM CC3 is stopping this happening? -
Is it possible to create quizzes, assignments etc as can be done on moodle? So far all I see is the "all important" eportfolio!
-
That sounds interesting. You wouldn't want to share that script would you?

Moving from CC3 to something else?
reggiep replied to reggiep's topic in Network and Classroom Management
My original point was about moving BUT this has turned into a great thread. It shows how passionate people can be about their network setup. I worked on a cc3 system for 3 years and a Vanilla then Ranger system for 3.5 years. I may well become accustomed to CC3/4 again but at the moment I am struggling with simple things like adding network shortcuts when in the past I could do this blindfolded. I understand now how to do it through CC3 but I am having to relearn certain ways of doing things. Anyway cheers for all the brilliant opinions and offers of help. -

Do you have any good tips or website links for WDS? I never got round to using it as I always went for the easier (at the time) ghost option?
