I've found that dropbox is a decent option and guess I'll stick to using it instead.

We use BackupAssist here and have found it very reliable. You can't knock £83 for a piece of backup software. Their support documentation is also very comprehensive and has helped me when we had to do a full restore of a 2008 server.

Well it seems to upload all the files from my local machine to their own site but not on to my google docs! I can't find any setting to make those docs then move to my google docs.

I have tried syncplicity but it's not really working as we would like. I'll keep going and report back if I find anything.

I am trying to find a tool to replicate a folder on a users PC with their googler docs. this way they can be confident that whatever they put in the folder will be available, via google docs, when they get home. I have seen syncplicity but I'm not convinced with it! Any suggestions? thanks

Hi All, We are a secondary school running SIMS. We currently get our SIMS support from our LA. However I have been asked to find out how much the support directly from Capita would be. From my experience in the past I would guess that Capita support would be more expensive but more thorough? Can anyone let me know how much their support costs are or if they have been in a similar situation? Thanks

We are looking at Resource 32000 from Corero too. Did you install it on a new server or on an existing one? We were told it was probably better to stick it on its own.

After our near heart attach inducing server failure over the last few days we now have another much smaller problem. As my brain is a bit fried, could someone tell me why I have the following problem. Our staff shared resources is d:\resources\staff on our server. The folder is shared out as resources and staff have read access to the share. Then in the sub folders the staff have everything except full control in the security settings. however the staff cannot write to the folders. Have I messed up here some how, I really can't see the wood for the trees. thanks

Can I just thank everybody who has contributed to this thread over the last few days. We now have a working domain thanks to our local authority support who worked long hours yesterday up until 10. Our PDC Prenton 1 is now running as it should and everybody can indeed log in and all seems well. Our second domaina controlled does still have replication issues and the support team are going to investigate this further. It's just nice that our staff and students can get back to what they need to do. Reg

Right, following on from my post yesterday, this is our current situation. Our domain is completely non-operational. DC1 - Primary Domain Controller Our primary domain controller cannot see our domain, any attempt to access server MMCs informs us that our domain is not available or the PDC cannot be reached. dcpromo tells us that it IS a domain controller and the only option it gives us is to delete the domain, which we obviously don't want to do! I've attached the dcdiag output from DC1 - dcdiag-1.txt. DC2 - Secondary Domain Controller Our secondary domain controller cannot see the domain either. It has been recently demoted and promoted using dcpromo to solve a GPO issue. The problems with DC1 started shortly after that. We believe that was due to replication. The netlogon and sysvol folders we not replicating between the two DCs so, using a Microsoft suggestion, we forced that to happen using a registry edit. The "burflags" key was changed to D4 on the PDC, DC1 and D2 on the secondary DC, DC2. We did a system state restore yesterday and completely restored the PDC C: drive from a week old backup this morning, but the Domain is still unavailable. Anyone got any ideas? I tried doing a systemstate restore from backups last night. 3 hours later it finished but I still had the same problem. I am in the middle of a full restore of the server.

Sorry, I have not been posting much as been rather busy! We have our Local Authority Support here helping now. When we dcdiag the server it says it can't find the pdc even though it is the pdc?

Yes folders are there, I tried to reset the BURFLAGS registry entry to D4 as the KB315457 article on MS suggests but the FRS service just keeps failing. the result is that we do not have the netlogon or sysvol shares

We're still not having any luck, but we've noticed that in the NTDS settings, under properties on DC1, that it's both replicating from and replicating to DC2? Does that make sense? Surely the main DC, DC1, should not replicate from a secondary DC?

Not sure if the restore would bring back the shares too?

I have been trying to get my second server sorted out as it was not replicating the sysvol or netlogon folders. Well I though it was sorted but I was wrong. instead i now have my primary Server 2008 server without a sysvol or netlogon share so nobody can log on. Argh!!! I have a full backup for a last resort but wondered if anybody can suggest anything before I have to plan for a long day and evening. thanks

Well that seems to have worked, to a point! When I ran DCPROMO it did not ask to demote so I just promoted it and joined it to my domain. My sysvol has returned BUT at the moment it is not shared and is not full of the lovely files that my other DC is?

I guess I will give the old dcpromo a go. Thanks

Argh!! And I think I mean it. I have no Sysvol on my second server! I has gone, disappeared and done a runner! How could that have happened, in fact more importantly how can I get it back?

We have started to see certain XP clients in our school logging on without applying Group Policy to them. Therefore the client is not getting the correct drive mappings, correct desktop etc. We have two Windows Server 2008 servers chugging along but I think something must be amiss. When I run Group policy modelling wizard I get a an error telling me... When I look at the event I see this... I suspect that when the client tries to run the policies that if it goes to one of the servers it is having problems. I have no idea why it is doing this and I am googling like crazy BUT if anyone has any ideas I would be pleased. Thanks

I have been asked to write up the reaons why we should move from our current 10 meg Local authority feed to their 100 meg offering. The cost difference is approx £4000 annually so I need to knock up a document explaing why we should do this. Now obviously I want it but can anyone suggest any key words or phrases I could put in my document? Thanks
