I used my ASR backups to restore the a new machine as a duplicate of my SIMS server. I then restored all files to all drives with my full backups. I would have thought that I would have then been able to just use the machine as if it was the original SIMS server but no! When I go into SQL server management studio I browse to the local machine and try to connect to machinename\SIMS with the local sa user but the connection fails. I am getting an error about target machine activley refusing connection but the target is the loacl machine!!

I'm not sure if my original post made sense. I have restored a copy of my sims serv er to a new machine, which is not in any way connected to original SIMS server's network. The machine is a full restore of the original server, so SIMS is installed on it already. I can't right click on my server as I can't connect to it!

As part of our disaster recovery procedure I thought it would be a good idea to try to restore our SIMS server to another machine and document the process so that if we did, God forbid, have to recover for real, we would know what we were doing! I have reinstall Server 2003 with ASR on to a workstation my SIMS server set up but I can't access the SQL Database. SQL management studio will not connect to server\sims instance. This is where I fall down as I have no SQL training and limited experience with it. I'm not sure if I just need to restore the databases which have been backed up via script and then i should be able to connect or if I need to set up SQL itself first? Can anyone suggest how they may have done this or how I could do it? Thanks

It wouldn't bother me that much if it needed everything inputting again as it's such a good system that it would be worth the work at my end.

Hi All, I'm trying to find a decent NAS box that is large in capacity 8Gb but can be formatted in ntfs, as I need to do server 2008 backups to it. I will need to rsync to it. Has anyone used anything similar recently? Thanks

Funnily enough this is what I am in the middle of doing. We are just trying to decide which school out of a possible two to locate out NAS at. It is a buffalo terastation and we are going to use Rsysnc to backup nightly to it.

I am beginning to hate IE7 more and more. We use 7 as our MFL software will not work with 8! Anyway our staff email is having problems with IE now in that http://www.outlook.com will just fail to show when visited. The only fix for this is to clear the users browsing history and then it works again. I thnought I would find a simple GPO for this task but there only appears to be one for ie8. Does anybody know hoe this might be done? Thanks

Hi All, I am using a GPO to force our users IE homepage to be our Moodle site. This was done ages ago but I have only just really noticed that "most" of the time their browser goes to something like go.microsoft.com. If they then shut down the browser and then open it again it goes to the correct home page? This doesn't happen to us admins?? Only thing different I can see about other users is that they have a mandatory profile while us admins do not. Not sure if that is relevant at all? Has anyone else seen this? Thanks

I have been living with this problem for over a year, but my users seem pretty patient! If a user launches a shortcut from the start menu to our email http://www.outlook.com, the page does not always load. Sometimes the browser seems to be trying to reslove the IP address. If the user clicks the stop button in the browser and then clicks refresh the page opens fine. This does not happen to the admins on the system. I'm wondering if it may be to do with their mandatory profile? Can anyone suggest anything or have you had the same problem?

I am trying to connect my phone to a mac to play some audio. I have gone into sound and changed input to line in and I can see that sound is going in but I can't work out how I can then just listen to that audio! Can someone let me know what I'm missing? Thanks

I have been asked to film our head during her Open Evening presentation. She will be showing a powerpoint and talking. I would like to just film her talking and then mix that later with her powerpoint. So I guess in the end it would look a bit like when the BBC news channel has someone signing for the deaf? I am trying to install promissor via a script that calls an msi. It seems to have worked on most of my machines but not all Can anyone suggest a tool or script that I might find that would list my machines and let me know if the install folder exists? That way I could go to the stubborn machines and install manually and not look stupid on test day! Thanks

I have been asked to copy an excel file into over 700 folders that are all nestling in one foler. I have done this in the past but due to my seive like brain i have fogotten what the utility is called. Can anyone help me out? thanks

@dwhyte85 - No, these are machines that have all had the same image pumped out to them. It seems to be a small rogue group that have the problem. @p858snake - Not sure how i would tell?

We rebuilt all our machines during the summer hols and have found that a few are causing problems. When a domain user logs on to the machine they are not logged on as a domain user but as the local admin? If I rebuild the problem goes away but I would be interested to see what people think this problem may be? thanks

My moodle server had a power supply problem this morning and crashed. I swapped out the the hard drive to a new machine and booted up again. I had a few errors about NFS not mounting and realised that even though I had given the Ip address in DHCp the box was not getting it. I found that if I type ifconfig eth1 10.60.25.25 that the box gets that Ip and is happy until I reboot and then it loses it again. Can anyone suggest what might be happening here? thanks

Our Library Manager has been asked to start recording Teachers Tv then to selectivly put some of that on to DVD. So I guess he needs a combo HD/DVD freeview box? Can anyone suggest such a thing? Thanks

I have all of these in the one positsion "user3" but for some reason they are below the articles rather than pushing the article down the page. Has anyone see this before? thanks
