  1. A lot of school in our Authority are going to become new style academies. During this change the schools will have to buy their SIMS licenses again. There was a meeting between a lot of the schools yesterday and during that meeting the attached documnet was handed out. Now I have had a quick look through it and my conclusion is that each year when you renew your MIS licensing you have to make sure you are getting best value? Becta Report on MIS v 4 FINAL.PDF Does anyone actually go through this procedure?
  2. Hmm, that's a nice idea. i did see an app by a norwgian company to link live@edu directly to AD but at £500 I have no chance at the moment.
  3. We use MS Live@edu for our staff email which is great and does the job well. However I quite fancy moving our students across to it as well. The stumbling block at the moment is having to add all the students on manually. I haven't yet found a solution for this yet so wondered if any edugeekers have done this? Cheers
  4. Thanks for that, it's not quite what I meant! But it is useful for some future plans I have. I wondered when I asked if it was possible to hide the blank column just for one page. I don't think this is possible though.
  5. Just a thought but has anyone used anything of this nature? Our LRB manager has his hands full at dinnertime and something like this would be very handy. I noticed this Free Open Source PC Booking and Reservation Computer Software : Pre-Book Linux Server and Windows Client - Userful but it doesn't look very easy to use without thier extras. thanks
  6. I am currently working on an article for my schools website and would like to make the page full width. It's probably best if I link to the unfinished page... Prenton High School for Girls As you can see the left side has a blank where a menu should go. Can I set somewhere in joomla that I want the page to be full width? I have had a look through but can't find anything. thanks
  7. We dabbled with this earlier in the year and gave up as nothing seemed to work as it should. It's a pity as most people in our school don't use IE at home.
  8. Weird one this, I did set up the AD joining service a few weeks back and all worked on my test workstation. Now I have some samsung netbooks and I created an image that was not on the domain. I clicked the join domain box but I get an error hostnamechanger code 2 in my fog log. Can anyone help me with this one?
  9. @Butuz I like that desktop structure!
  10. I am constantly having to search through my documents to find what I need and have decided I need to be a bit more regimented with them. Has anyone found the perfect folder structure for this?
  11. With a little bit of tweaking that workewd. Thanks
  12. I'm having problems with users logging on to windows 7 computers. They close down the boot script before it completes. In XP the script is hidden but in 7 it just pops up on the desktop and closes when finished. Is there a way to have the boot script, .bat, hidden from the end user? I have looked at the gpo and there is a script parameters box but not sure what to put there if anything. Thanks
  13. I found this script in the end... @ECHO OFF ECHO Deleting current user's Temporary Files, Cookies, History, Form Data and Stored Passwords RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 1 RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2 RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 8 RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 16 RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 32 RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 255 ECHO Done! PAUSE It was here Delete IE7 History From the Command Line Now just got to work out whether to run it at log in or log off.
  14. This weird problem has popped up on our network in the last two weeks or so. It seems to happen most when our staff try to go to our email http://www.outlook.com. The page does not render and just a blank screen appears. The page renders again fine if they go to tools > Internet options > Delete browsing history > Delete all. I think the quickest fix to rid me and my users of this problem is to automate the deletion of users history either at log off, log on, or when the browser is shut. I am however stuck on how I could achieve this, I can't find any settings for a gpo and my scripting skills are minimal. Could somebody help please? Thanks
  15. We have just installed three trolleys worth of netbooks in the school. If that wasn't bad enough a teacher has brought up the fact that surely there must be some health and saftey issues with the students using the netbooks for prolonged periods of time. I'm not sure what those issues might be but I'm supposed to find out Has anyone else had such a quandary thrust at them?
  16. Don't panic!! I'm retoring databases left right and centre at the moment! I am waiting for a suppossed master username and password from my Local Authority support!
  17. If I were to restore the MASETR db would that help me log in to FMS?
  18. Oh well it was worth a punt! Thanks again for all you expertise. >_<
  19. OMG that worked. I bow down before you jinnantonnix!! My question now, so many questions, is could I do something similar for FMS
  20. Well I'm further on now! I reinstalled SQL on to the server and that started to look more promising. I then restored both my SIMS and FMS databases which all look fine within SQL management studio. My final hurdle seems to be that neither SIMS or FMS will let me log in? I am using the usersnames that were definately on the system when it was backed up but still no luck. Can anyone help with this one? Thanks
  21. I might have done in a different sitiution BUT this is a practice for the real event if it ever happened. This is a bind but I need to try to do this so in the real event I could do it again! Although I have made a few alterations I have kept notes for now and future reference. I do appreciate everybody's help in this, honest!
  22. Ok, I have taken the restored sims server off the domain and renamed it to sims. I have connected it to the network so it has an IP address. I have edited the hosts file to point 127.0.0.1 to sims and it's local ip to sims. Still will not coonect to sql server management studio???
  23. It's OK. The machine is not connected to the network at all! This would be for if the whole school went up in flames and we needed to quickly access sims data away from school.
  24. Ok, So even though I have restored the server to a new machine I have to install SQl again! Once I have done this I should install SIMS again? I'll have to dig out the media and give it a go
