  1. Duck Hunt And by show of hands who used to get bored and walk right up to the screen and shoot them
  2. Has anyone had to do anything special on Exchange to get the mail client in OS X to talk to it? I am not able to get a connection going it just errors out with trying to log into exchange server
  3. The xserver would be an unneccesary cost for us with only 16 machines so we are going to do what others have suggested and buy a mac mini and put the server OS onto that.
  4. So in an ideal world what would be the best soulution? To bind a mac client to AD for authentication then extend the AD scheme to manage and lock down the client? Or to use AD for authentication then use an OS X Server to lock down the apple clients?
  5. Thanks for this, I did try installing it on OS X but just get a huge amount of different errors when trying to do any task.
  6. Oh, well because we use tagged VLAN's. We have not subnetted anything.
  7. We are trying to eventually get apple's active in our windows enviroment and have only been able to bind so far, cannot do any AD users logins. One problem we have is if we do an nslookup on a server it returns all the IP's for that server on all our tagged VLANS. The problem is that when you ping a server on the mac it returns an IP address that is on a different VLAN to the mac, for example if we ping our DC it should be on a 10.1 address but it returns and tries to ping a 10.3 address. Any suggestions?
  8. I am able to bind a mac mini to AD in Directory Utility so that my domain shows up in Directory servers, search policy has /Active Directory/All Domains listed. But I still can not log in using the domain\user logins. Anyone have any tips to try?
  9. I did not check it before the software does the check, and the software gets the error. I have tried with server 2008 x64, server 2008 x86 & server 2003 x86
  10. I have been trying to get this set up on a box nearly all weekend. I Can get everything installed correctly (PHP & MySQL) but when I install a website for Xibo and open the website go to the page that created the database I just get an error saying ""Unable to write to settings.php. We already checked this was possible earlier, so something changed" Has anyone had this before and been able to fix this?
  11. Was not looking at an xserve as they are too expensive also thought about a mini with the server OS installed.
  12. We are thinking about putting half a dozen Mac's into our windows domain. I have read that I can join the macs to authenticate on active directory, get mapped drives so I wouldnt need a Mac server for users?? Also Would those macs be able to go out through our exsisting ISA server?? Would all a mac server be good for is locking down the Mac's?
  13. Can not seem to find any information about if this is actually a finished product yet or still in development But I am able to use it through our agreement and one of our old ISA box is dying. Is it worth putting Forefront on?
  14. We have a database that we enter in manually into Access. Occasionly during the summer we can borrow the librarians barcode scanner to enter in the serial numbers. Does anyone do anything special to build up their inventories with ease?
  15. We use tagged VLANS for network security. We do not want pupils to have access to the same servers as staff, so those servers only listen to staff VLANS. Servers like DHCP, DNS are tagged on all the VLANS. Securus can only be tagged on one VLAN, So it could only ever listen to one VLAN. Hosts on the VLAN ID 6 network can only talk to other hosts on the ID 6 network, and servers that have been tagged on the ID 6 network. They would never be able to talk to a VLAN ID 7 network.
  16. Would it be possible to have a peice of kit sit in between the box and the switch? We are trialing a securus box and it can only be associated with one IP address. But we have several VLAN's. So this box is limited. Securus support have never heard of a VLAN before it seems, so is there a peice of kit that could act as a go between?
  17. Been trying all day to get this set up. I have changed the web.config to include My authentication provider is not kerberos, so I tried to tell ISA to let any requests from my sharepoint servers go through without authenticating but that did noit seem to work. The web part still complains about authentication. Is there any hope apart from switching to kerberos authentication (which I do not want to try)?
  18. Have done now
  19. Ok hmm I created two security groups in AD. Added those security groups as users in a sharepoint group. Seems to work okay. Users in Staff sharepoint group can see sites that those in the pupil sharepoint group can not. But when I go to my top site > site settings > modify navigation > click on a link I created > edit and choose Audience Pupils, Staff ( my two sharepoint groups ) it shows up for no one.
  20. Well no I wouldnt want to add 1200 pupils manually. or 300 Staff! But what I want to achieve in the end is the homepage be an internet published front page which requires no authentication. But all my sites & custom navigation links be hidden from that front site byt use of permissions and audience targetting.
  21. In Active Directory I have two OU's. Pupils & Staff. I want to get two groups in Sharepoint. Would the best way to do this be to create two new Security Group's in AD, and make all my pupils a member of the pupils security group, and staff members of the staff security group. Then create two new groups in Sharepoint called Pupils & Staff. Add the security group as a user in each group?
  22. One final question, is there a way to deploy the client with group policy using the .msi and set the publishing server?
  23. Ok, with all your help I am getting somewhere. If I have 4 rooms, all with 30 computers, in 4 different OU's can I stop certain apps from going to one of the four rooms. Basicly will all apps go to all clients or can I have more control.
