  1. Unfortunatly the generic "an error has occurred" messages are very common and give no help. You will have to dig deeper to find out the cause. Try Chaks' Corner | Troubleshooting your SharePoint 2010 Errors failing that just check windows error logs.
  2. Can anyone help me with some VB code to countdown to a date and display the number of days in a form.
  3. Anyone been able to rename all files and folders which include a & so I can move them online.
  4. I have had a lot worse while living on site. Rarely does a month go by when one of the school alarms wont phone me at 3 am to tell me it is going off. Twice so far I have interrupted intruders alone. But neither do I get disturbed by people at my door askin for help, everyone leaves each other be apart from being social. But I assume you have a similar deal to me where you get three meals a day, small amount of rent, no council tax, no bills. Its worth a bit of aggro now and then.
  5. Bit of an LDAP novice because never had to use it before for anything other than adding the correct base DN to moodle or such. But got an external service that wants anonymous access to ldap. Not sure how to set it up have followed a few articles but not sure how to test. doing a ldap://dc1:389 does not let you search for anyone. ldp.exe seems to do something but unaware of how this should function so unable to tell if its working. how can I do a test of ldap being searchable from an external source?
  6. Got an external service that allows LDAP Authentication. Set up firewall to only allow queries from the external service IP address. but unfortunatly it's not working. I suspect because there is no username specified for the queries and I would need some sort of anonymous access? Does anyone know if you have to do anything extra to get this working rather than it being okay with a vanilla AD setup?
  7. If we replace our existing web filter does the one we replace it with need to have any accrediation for its use in schools? Is this a legal requirement?
  8. Hi I guess so, but we do not have SP1 installed and we wont be able to have the downtime until half term and the issue needs to be resolved pretty soon.
  9. I once spoke to my head about a pay increase, he said in no uncertain terms it was not possible. I looked for other jobs and when I handed my notice in I got called into his office and he asked me why I was leaving. I said more money and he offered me 1k more than what my new job was offering which would be 3k over what I originally asked for. My response was to ask if I could be released before my notice period. We never spoke again.
  10. All our users seem to have the ability to create folders, put items in those folders. This includes pupils and as we never use these folders some staff have took the word public to mean private. I have been searching all morning but unable to find out how to set the permissions in Exchange 2010 for the public folders. Can anyone help?
  11. Live on site so about 5 seconds
  12. OP SmartDesk - Customer Support Made Easy. I think there is still a free version. I used to run the previous MyLittleHelpdesk and it was good but then we moved over to Kayako
  13. I borrowed a ML 110 which had server 2008 installed. I deleted the array and created a new one as a Raid 0 but in doing so the system wont boot from any device just goes straight to "operating system not found". the only way I can boot it from disc is to turn of the embedded RAID controller. Does anyone know how to configure the BIOS so that it will have an array and boot to disc?
  14. I closed my eyes and let it work on a new OU with users who had no mailbox. It worked out well
  15. Would like to use this but a tad worried now about the previous two comments. We have a new year group in an OU to add mailboxes for and also half a dozen new pupils in all 6 other OU's all already full of users with mailboxes. Will this script work just by setting hte correct OU in $Dom = 'LDAP://OU=Dummy;OU=Students;OU=User;DC=bcgs;DC=local'
  16. We created our new year group of users in Active Directory, and the way we make the mailbox is to just go to new mailbox - existing users - highlight all new ones and set database. But in Exchange 2010 it is not setting their username as the alias automatically. Just wondering if theres a setting somewhere I missed? Just noticed that when creating multiple users it is using the full name as the alias rather than the username
  17. Thats pretty much what I got, 2 bedroom house to myself with boarding duty for the boys house to be shared between 5 of us and three meals each day including weekends and lots of trips to go on.
  18. Just wondering if anyone else is living in staff accommodation and what they get/have to do in return for one?
  19. Trying to migrate our Kayako helpdesk onto our new Server 2008 R2 servers. Been reading up o how Zend optimizer wont work on 64 bit but Zend Server will, I can get to the point installing Zend Server where the phpinfo shows that Zend Optimizer is installed. And the configuration in zend shows that it is working. Has anyone had any experiance or been able to get this working?
  20. Think I will be booking an Exodus holiday for next summer to Kenya or Japan. I cant do fly out and sit in a hotel or a beach holidays so its perfect. They have a good forum for questions if your nervous or interested in how it will work and they are great to email.
  21. We have three DC's so doing a force removal of one shouldnt affect them. I will use it as a last resort
  22. The DC im demoting never held any FSMO roles so I dont understand why it is failing on moving some. I have checked on all three of our DC's who holds the roles and they are correct. DNS resolves fine to all DC's.
  23. All FSMO roles are on one DC, not the one im demoting. dcdiag shows that these roles are correct. The only error I can find is; The operations master roles held by this directory server could not transfer to the following remote directory server. Remote directory server: \\SERVER.domain.net This is preventing removal of this directory server. User Action Investigate why the remote directory server might be unable to accept the operations master roles, or manually transfer all the roles that are held by this directory server to the remote directory server. Then, try to remove this directory server again. Additional Data Error value: 5005 The directory service is missing mandatory configuration information, and is unable to determine the ownership of floating single-master operation roles. Extended error value: 0 Internal ID: 52498735
  24. Get an error of Active Directory Domain Services could not transfer the remaining data in teh directory partition DC=ForestDNSZones, "The directory service is missing mandatory configuration information, and is unable to determine the ownership of floating single-master operation roles." Not able to fond any useful information on the net for this error.
  25. I am just as new to KMS and have installed our Server 2008 R2 key as articles have explained. Not ready to test the Windows 7 and 2008 R2 keys yet but with Office 2010used the tool to insert our KMS key. But our Office 2010 are still no activated and going to File > Help only gives the option to "Change product key". I assume we put the KMS key in here? But it just complains that it is not a valid key.
