Ah ok, We have a sub-domain for students and used the following: Get-MsolUser -DomainName student.school.com -All | Set-MsolUserLicense -AddLicenses YOUR_ORG:OFFICESUBSCRIPTION_STUDENT If you can find a CSV import script you can pipe the Set-MsolUserLicense with it and apply it to a list of users. To list the licenses you have use: Get-MsolAccountSku It should list something like YOURSCHOOL:OFFICESUBSCRIPTION_STUDENT - This is the one you'll want to use. Hope that helps a bit. If you haven't found anything by tomorrow, I've got them all saved at work and I'll put it together for you.

Unifi here for a secondary - Currently around 20 APs, doubling the amount shortly as the kit is very good. CBC also supply Unifi gear if you need another supplier, as do 4gon.

Do you have a different domain for students?

We have one showing OpsView/Nagvis of the status of switches/servers etc. around the building.

Hi There, We're setting up a VLAN for our Wireless APs and running into a small issue. We have created the following on Smoothwall: Virtual Interfaces: VLAN ID: 10 IP: 192.150.0.1 Netmask: 255.255.0.0 DHCP Server: Port: (the one above ticked) Network: 192.150.0.0 Dynamic Range: Added 192.150.0.10 - 192.150.0.100 Netmask: 255.255.0.0 Enabled: Yes Global DHCP: Port ticked above. I have a Win7 VM setup on VLAN ID 10. But there is no DHCP at all, I have set a static IP of 192.150.0.25/16 and tried to ping the Smoothwall interface 192.150.0.1 and I am getting nothing. All of our switches are D-LINK DGS-1210 Smart Switches. Am I right in thinking I do not need to alter any VLAN configuration on the switches as long as the default gateway is the Smoothwall address? I don't think it's a DHCP issue as I am sure I should be able to ping the Smoothwall VLAN interface with a static configuration. Anyone got any ideas or spotted something I've missed? Thanks,

I remember a similar article last year, entitled something like '100 days of snow on the way' - We didn't even have 100 flakes. I am not sure where they get the forecasts from; they can't even predict what's going to happen next week.

I wish I could sit down for 7hrs... we're lucky to go 10 minutes without someone calling about a projector 'broken' when it's input has changed!

Thanks for that! Certainly looks like many Schools will benefit from it. I don't mind using the Powershell method to assign licenses, just a bit of a mess about when it should be included in the management tools :-)

We use a mixture of GPO deployment and Print Scripts. For some reason the GPO Printer install has been on and off the past couple of years, it would stop installing printers to random users with no event log messages and they were definitely getting the GPO, for some reason using VBS Print Scripts has solved it. Still looking for an all-in-one print deployment solution as ours it's cobbled together or some way of fixing the GPO deployment!.

We used to have this occasionally.. except with Staff doing it not students. Spanning-Tree solved all the problems, now when they do it they just look silly.

We also do this here. The licenses are added when we create new pupil email accounts, the license lasts for 1 year I believe. Just out of interest, how have people gone about assigning licenses to existing users in bulk? - We have had to use Powershell, there must be a better way?

Not sure if this helps - we went from completely physical servers to using Hyper-V. When we compared the options available to us, we decided to go for Hyper-V over VMWare. It was more cost effective for us to use Hyper-V with Server 2012 as we had existing licenses/agreements in place, as well as being used to managing a Windows environment and we haven't previously used any VMWare products. You'll find people rooting for both VMWare and Hyper-V depending on past/present experience of using either.. they are both good products and from looking at various 'comparisons' on websites they both do the same job at the end of the day (I am led to believe) There are some nice Microsoft features though, such as Storage Pools, ReFs, Hyper-V Replica, Failover Cluster Management/High-Availability I am not sure how VMWare compares with these features.

Just upgraded a test iMac in Music. Everything seems to work fine.. Network accounts working as they should :-) No surprises yet!

Impero can do key phrase/word detection - We regularly see these flash up as violations in Impero.

We have a few all staff emails go out, again, like others we have groups... all-teaching, all-support, all-staff etc. Daily bulletins go out to all staff also.

Have you double checked to make sure PXE booting is enabled in the BIOS?

We only have 5 - Used with Google Device Management. They are locked down to public kiosk mode and used for basic internet/research in a public area.

We haven't really needed support that much so I can't really comment overall - The two times we did need it, they got back to us within the hour and dialled in remotely to fix an authentication issue.

We use a Smoothwall UTM-3000 and couldn't be happier with it. Everything we need is provided, we use: Filtering Firewall VPN LDAP Authentication Guardian Previously Bridging Admin/Curric until we ditched two networks. You can do a LOT with a Smoothwall, really like the content modification policies (e.g. forcing youtube safe-mode, comment removal, Google safe search etc.)

I am glad I use Chrome + Adblock. Although we're pretty up-to date with all security patches anyway - Would be useful to know if Sophos blocks this?

Haven't seen it used before, but seen people searching for similar things. Our GPO that disables command prompt stops this, as well as not having startup repair on the PCs :-)
