We have around 80 printers monitored in PaperCut - will be over 150 once we have them all deployed properly. It's excellent for seeing who prints where; e.g. staff moving about hammering other colour photocopiers! as well as general usage, reports, when pupils are silly and set a high number of jobs going. We haven't got any quota/limiting in place but we should have after summer :-)

We have one in reception, Lenovo i5 white Apple looking thing... Never had an issues with it, looks great with the white wireless keyboard & mouse it came with. Not got any in classrooms so can't comment; but it would save a lot of room on the benching we have.

I can second those. Really good, smaller than they look on that picture - Ideal for having on a set of keys.

We block Netflix and Amazon Instant for all pupils & staff. Nobody has even questioned it or asked to use it here...

I've used the Active@ Recovery tools before... Active@ Partition Recovery restores deleted & damaged volumes &amp disks. Freeware Data Recovery Software Toolkit Couldn't see if there was a free version, there was when I last tried it a couple of years ago. If not there may be something in the UBCD, ERD Commander etc. type tools.

We've been using Symantec for years and moved to Sophos last Summer. It was a learning curve getting things right with Enterprise Console at first; (there are required GPOs for deployment) but when it's all up and running it's great. Automatic deployment, centralised exceptions/reporting/updates etc. They also provide you with a standalone version for staff laptops (that do not update from the local server) We have found it to be non-intrusive and even ran well on the older XP machines we used to have. A quick note though; if you use Impero make sure you have a central exception for it - It doesn't come up as a virus but blocks some files and disables Impero on certain machines. It is done from the Enterprise Console and is very straightforward to fix.

We've had this a few times... Some of our possible causes are: Duplicate Hostname on the PCs / In which case rename one of them and reset the AD Computer Account(s). Duplicate IPs (not an issue anymore with DHCP) No network connection (Switch problems/switch down/missing Ethernet cable) - We've even seen an issue with a faulty network card and the Switch blocking the MAC address for sending obscene amounts of traffic. Wrong/Out of date DNS settings Sleep / Standby and regaining network connection too slow. There are probably a lot more causes but that's what we've found.

Yes - We have used both an external DVD drive and USB memory sticks for this. You will need to select to boot from it though from within Windows 8 - Advanced Restart - as it is not the first boot device.

I have done this with an ASUS Transformer, It now runs 8.1 Pro from a Volume License ISO. Before it will recognise the ISO as bootable you need to make it UEFI supported or it will NOT boot no matter what you try (as the VL ISOs are not UEFI, or at least ours wasn't!) See more below on how to do that: Create Windows 8 universal UEFI enabled DVD/ISO - Kasper Kristensen Once you have modified the ISO you can either burn to DVD and use an external drive, or use USB memory sticks. There is no direct BIOS options upon boot, so you need to do an "Advanced Restart" from within Windows 8 PC Settings which should give you the option to boot external device. Make sure to use the 32bit 8.1 ISO as x64 wasn't supported on our ASUS Transformer. Also, all of the drivers are on the ASUS website for 32bit Windows 8 so these shouldn't be a problem. Once you have a working Transformer on 8.1 Pro you can create a backup image through Windows and apply it to other devices. Hope that helps!
