You need a line with a static IP - doesn't matter what other than the higher the upload, the better. Set the DNS on your domain to point to the static external ip. Use the router to forward traffic on port 80 (poss 443 as well for ssl) to the IP of the box in your demiliterised zone. Make sure that the box is secure and secured from the rest of your network otherwise it will probasbly be compromised and can then be used as a staging ground to attack the rest of your network.

why is it necessary to use windows as a base for this? I find that amp works better on *nix. I can understand if you wanted IIS or asp, but.... there's always running a lamp environment from a virtual machine as well. This removes the licence issue. Code placed in here is automagically executed when a user logs in You don't have to - the users 'could' add them themselves, but we take the view that it's less hassle to provision it instead. Setting up the share provides access to the printer resource, adding the printer to a user account sets it up for use.

There are a couple of linux 'appliances' (think install, turn on - work out of the box) installers - try googling 'linux smb server'. I would use a custom debian build, but that's purely my preference - any distro can do it. SO in a nutshell: Right click on the printer on the server to set permissions as to which users can print, check queues etc on each printer Go login to each account and install the network printers (on the add printer dialogue enter \\SERVERNAME\PRINTERSHARENAME to locate it. If you cannot see the printers, then they are not shared properly on the server. [EDIT] For the scripts, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to do this, but you do require an amount of baseline knowledge on the way these tools work. It can be overwhelming at first look, which is why I suggest the manual approach for now - if you are going to be sticking with managing this system as a major role, I suggest slowly reading up on all of this until it becomes clear (or doing a few courses such as A+ and then the microsoft ones) - it's not beyond you, just daunting atm. If not, stick with the method I describe which will do what you want with the least time investment for your specific needs.

Flex is fantastic for writing a gui. A quick answer is yes, it can do what you describe but.. ..so can any other script language (php, asp, etc). You are limited only by your own skill and ingenuity. my understanding was that web 2.0 refers more to the switch from a click based web experience to a more desktop based experience using ajax / flash / silverlight to perform backend queries and updates to the front end without a full page refresh. Collaborative / community / interactive tools existed for decades before the marketing phrase 2.0 so I don't see how that could fit. You're right it not meaning anything though

I can recommend richer sounds as well. I have a yamaha amp I bought from them with a set of Mordaunt Short speakers for 5.2 setup about five years ago - sound is wonderful and no probs with any of the equipment.

If you're running it on windows my first suggestion would be that port 80 is being blocked by the firewall. Also if you're using wampserver you need to right click on the icon and select "put online" or somesuch else you'll get the issue you describe - localhost access only

Alternatively, you may find it easier to whitelist the internet. "It's the only way to be sure" Then add in all the exceptions for content you want to allow. Can prob be done by monitoring the urls for a term to build a list of sites to allow, then unblock as requested.
