Backup a copy of the zimbra folder and run the installer if latest, or do an upgrade. You can perform a reinstallation with the same version by just re-running it. This can fix borked zimbra and has sorted me out in the past.

We use the open source (free) edition of zimbra here. Very happy with it - not had any issues.

What I did was copy the data to network, remove the flash frontend and create shortcuts for each of the applications instead. That was the easiest way I could think of to allow users to run them without an install option.

I'm having trouble activating Yenka behind school guardian 2008. using Windows XP SP3, with administrator accounts: I put the code in, then select the proxy setup and enter the IP and port of the proxy, selecting http. It then pops up a username and password box into which I have entered a variety of valid accounts. Usually, it flashes the username and password box up again instantly, but sometimes gives the "Downloaded, but could not set the licence" error, which can be caused by incorrect login details. I have whitelisted yenka.com All to no avail. Can't activate. Any ideas? What am I missing?

I have a version 1 unit and it's the biggest pain of all the IWBs here. I don't think the projector is very good on the first one (I hear the tosh is a big improvement) and I find the scratchpad functionality just adds un-needed complexity. Takes ages to start up as well. IMHO if you just want to use it as a whiteboard / chalkboard, you may as well buy a whiteboard / chalkboard. It's a darn sight cheaper I imagine it might be useful if the projector breaks, but I cart an old school whiteboard in as a temp for that. I got it because I liked the sound of the integrated projector on a boom, but since getting it, every one I've ordered since has been a normal smartboard and one of the orange toshiba short throws with mount and wall control (for on/off etc.) Can't recommend those enough. My recommendation therefore is for the standard boards (or even a widescreen one) YMMV.

Disk usage is not an issue. I have 58 gigs remaining on the logs partition, about 5% used. Must be 'filterfailitis'

A couple of times now, (once last week, once today) I've come in to find that the web proxy is offline - so the proxy refuses requests for all filtered people. On the display page the only service with a cross is web filter. Rebooting the box fixes. I can't see anything in the logs. Is there another place where I can restart the web filter service on it's own or find out why this service is falling over?

lol irony. That comment was aimed more at mattx's post than yours, apologies for not making that clear, but you hit it on the head. I don't know what the issues are because neither of the posts substantiate them. deployment? Your post clearly mentions the popularity of the software so I assume in your case it's not a user issue, and deployment seems the likey culprit if a knowledgebox install fixes your issue(s). It'd be useful to know what probs you experienced as suggested solutions could then be offered.

IMHO The sherston software is very good for primary use - the BBC Science Simulations and the email / web detectives especially useful for primaries, where actual email access may not be provided. Mangodata is superb for teaching databases and can be used in secondaries as well. The other titles, while not suitable as the primary tool for teaching say control and monitoring, provide an excellent support and consolidation in addition to other teaching. I've also found the company to be very good to deal with - it's no hassle to upgrade a license (just pay the difference), good licensing schemes and helpful telephone operators. Thought I'd give an alternate viewpoint from the unsubstantiated whines above.

I have had several problems with it on sp3 - crashing when logging in as admin for example. One of my terminal servers borked so that I coiuldnt rdp in on the console and ts users were crawling - had to log in on another session. Strangely, uninstalling and then clean installing it fixed (all mine were client upgrades from the a tutor control panel). Problem I have now is that on one of my labs, it thinks one of the machines is another machine in a different room and access that one when watching etc. (only get this problem when accessing it from within a group - when scanning all, it acesses both the machine in the room and the one in the other room fine).

An in-situ upgrade fixes a lot of broken zimbra problems. Try executing the installer again, it will detect the current mail dirs and prompt you to upgrade - you can do this with the same version eg 5.12 to 5.12 copy the folder first

THanks for that post carl - I'd seen them before but lost the link. Anyone else have any experience with this one? Looks very good from hitting their website. Also wondering if the client agents are locked or if it's possible to switch between windows and linux with the licenses as need changes.

I did indeed say that, several posts above. Never had a problem with 123-reg, and there are a few other registrars it would seem are also fine. (I also know of hosting providers / resellers who use them and just add their commision on top). I would still recommend separation from the host because quite often ,especially in the entry market (even on dedicated) you are balancing 'faith' with price. I may hear that XXXX provider rocks, but if I can get a similar spec at a quarter the price I may well take the risk on that, especially if it isn't for something mission critical (which it invariably isn't) - heck the VLE can afford to go down because worse case I can switch the DNS back to a local server while it gets sorted - a level of control not always offered by hosting providers with a vested interest in your business. I think the best advice is "Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised". It's prudent to take precautions. YMMV.

I notice that AB Tutor has added keylogging to version 6. Only a £25 update on previous version per console (clients all free).

They are cheap. 123 provide an easy means to fully control the domain, unlike some other registrars I have used. It separates the domain name from the webhost. This makes it much easier to point your domain at a different server should the need arise.
