SIMS is generally fine for assessment for those. So Xporter would be installed against the MIS database (SIMS, in school or if hosted, wherever - For other MIS's we pull via their APIs). This feeds to the XVault database, which is usually hosted at the LA. That database then aggregates as needed, before outputting to the Capita One file (so many inputs, from many MIS's), into XVault, and output is a single fileset that One likes. Simples

@Banjo allow me to help you with your Xporter/XVault questions: Yes it does, at least with the MIS' you mention below. Assessment is always tricky as your schools need to ensure they are all using the same formats/setup of assessment, same mark scales etc. Statutory is mostly fine, however just to be aware Assessment is a PITA when trying to collate from disparate systems and disparate assessment methodologies. Xporter is the tech that pulls the data, and for an LA it dumps it to our XVault database (or rather, your XVault database) which is the aggregation piece. You can use this (We have a reporting front end for this) to review etc, and then you can output the the file format that Capita One needs - so you get all data in one side, and a single file set out the other. To all Allow me to explain on behalf of Groupcall some things: Yes, some of our older extracts from Xporter, with some of our long standing partners, particularly those that have not changed their extracts for a long time, do in certain scenarios result in plain text files being placed onto the local server storage. Back in the day, it was assumed that the servers that these extracts occurred on were given appropriate physical and network security and safeguards. Clearly, things have moved on since those days but the extracts for these older ones have not. In addition, many extracts do self-clean to remove these files securely and permanently – again some older ones do not. So what are we doing about this: We are currently piloting an updated Xporter client where all output files are encrypted on disk (transfers externally are already always performed over https). This is with a number of local authorities currently and will be soon rolled out across the country and Xporter estate. As part of this compliance programme, we are auditing and updating existing bespoke extracts for all partners to identify where self-cleaning and removal of local working files is not taking place automatically (typically the longer standing partners mentioned that have not had recent updates). This is a piece of work that is already in progress. We are also encouraging our partners where sensible (though not with this as a reason) to move to using Xporter-on-Demand which is a secure API layer the partner interacts with, removing the need for locally created and forwarded files. This, as some have mentioned, then allows you much greater tools to authorise specific data areas for a partner, determine the mode by which you want to share data (send all by default or send only specific people by default), as well as using the new School Portal to discover who has your data, where, and tools to control this. As a reminder as this is also inferred, Xporter only extracts the data that was asked for by each partner individually, if there are concerns over the fields being used by a partner, this is one to speak to the third party about. It (Groupcall Emerge) also does the upload in the background when you get signal back again, even with the app closed, so you can more or less forget about it once done (though it is attendance so is always worth a check!)

No, this is for your third party to do/work with us on. Just like you got xporter from the partner, you would also with XoD if/when they decide to use this newer method.

School Portal will be going to pilot in the next week or so, and then past that with fingers crossed, out to the wide world. ANY school with at least one XOD linked product will have access to this for their school. Will be free, to all. Happy GDPR!

Old Xporter used to do this on very rare occasions, new Xporter On Demand does not do this is only provides exactly the data scopes you authorise and the data the partner requests. TO that end, the console will show for XOD integrations, only what is moving.

Just to answer a couple of points as Groupcall capabilities have been mentioned: Yes as Tim says, Messenger allows you to specify for each user what types of messages they can send, recently introduced for Tim himself! It also allows you to scope who a users sees (what classes etc and so who they can send to) - this has been in there forever, as you asked about this. Hope that helps. Morning from the BETT stand! I wanted to just say thank you for the support (For want of a better word!) around this. Every integration with a third party, via Xporter, is bespoke and tailored to the requirements of the partner, whatever they tell us they would like in the data extract is what we will have been commissioned to do. Any queries around the data being extracted and transported will need to be directed to the partner themselves. With the newer Xporter-on-Demand, which is an API that partners call and write against, they have even more say in what they pull, but importantly every school has to authorise every data scope for every partner - meaning schools know what is being asked for, and can say yes or no to each data scope. There is a data dashboard for schools (no cost) to show this visually, which is great for GDPR, show everything going anywhere, and with big buttons at any time to switch bits or all of it off (the data that is). I did not comment on information the restrictions of individual items of data - what I said was any third party that contains personal information on a data subject will have to product a SAR on request - not just limited to UPN. This is not a process that suppliers need to wake up for specifically for UPN, but all personal data items. Not a school, but our SAR's will be on show at BETT next week for our school facing and infrastructure platforms.

Unfortunately not currently as no other MIS's provide API or other access to their exams databases (as far as I know). I am looking at an MIS-agnostic solution to this (not the most elegant, but would be a very flexible tool beyond just exam timetables) currently.

To be clear, this is a core tool within Groupcall Messenger, and pulls the information from SIMS.

Update: out development team have now seen the case that you've logged with Groupcall and they'll call you shortly to get a remote session to look into this with you. As the report is hanging inside SIMS too it might be that you need to do some additional SIMS database maintenance over what you have already done, but we'll check first on the remote to ensure that's the best option.
